Hi Joan,
I found another scrap of paper with notes from Mom. She states that Delia was young(14/15) when she had Ray and wasn't married. They just tacked on the Anderson last name later. In the 1920 census she is living in Mad River with her father and August and a 3 year old grandson of Anders named Ray Baldwin. In the 1930 census Delia was married to Lloyd Cook and living in Little Lake with Lewis & Marie Anderson. Ray Anderson was living with Anders and August in Mad River. Good luck with your research. sharon

Hi Joan
The Dove/Dufva's were very sneaky about avoiding the census. It makes it difficult to find them. Most of my info came from my mom or ancestry.com. Anders Dufva married Minna Miller (I have a copy of the marriage licence somewhere) Their kids are 1- Anna Mary Elizabeth 1893 - 1985,
2- Ellen 1895 - ? she has 2 sons I dont know her husbands name. The boys are Daniel Beacher Poe, 3/5/1916 - 4/24/1982 and Robert C. Poe 11/29/1917 - ?
3- Edith 1900 - ? she married Chris Lorentzen. Mom said their kids are Jimmy, Reece and twin daughters Mettie who died young and Haroldean who married and moved to San Diego.
4- Sadie 1897 - ? never married. She had TB or something.
When Minna knew she was dying she made her sister Drucilla promise to raise the kids. Minna died 9/19/1900 and is buried in Ferndale. The story I heard is that Drucilla had been a housemother at Stanford University and hated it in the country but she married Anders (I have a copy of the marriage licence somewhere). Their two kid were August who never married and Delia who had Ray and Marie Anderson. Marie was born 8/27/1922. I dont have Ray's info. I knew there was a Lewis/Louie but I didn't know his last name. She also had twins Ruth Iris and Rose Ella Cook born 3/3/1932. Ruth died in 1943 and Rose had a daughter named Judy, but I don't know who the Cook was or who Rose married. If you ordered Marie Andersons birth record from the state it should have her fathers info on it. Who is Stella? Are you related to the Cooks or Andersons? I would jot down notes when I talked to my mom about family. I might have some other info buried in my piles of paper somewhere. I have a photo of Ray Anderson and a couple of Anders in moms photo album. Anders was born 12/25/1858 in Finland and died 9/10/1948 in Shasta Co. I have a copy of his citizenship papers, but they don't say what town in Finland he is from. I hope this helps you out. Sharon

Hi - Thanks for the response. I have researched thoroughly and the only conclusion I, and several others, have been able to come to is that give the fact that Aaron was a bit of a ladies's man, it's most likely that George is Aaron's illegitimate son. Given all the facts, Aaron is the only one that fits. It's frustrating not having documentation, but I'm going with Aaron unless I find something someday to the contrary. Thanks again!
Lori

I see on the 1820 census in Rockingham, VA that there are Aaron, Frederic, George, Jacob and Reuben listed...the only Doves listed there. Women were not listed. Perhaps one of these men was your George W. Dove's father. I do not know whether they listed boys or just head of household males on that census. Hope that helps.

I am probably not related - my Andrew Dove came from Scotland. But I did find your George R. Dove married to Rosa who was in Goodson, Washington, Virginia as a store clerk. It said he was born in Tennessee and that his parents were both born in Virginia. Children were Minnie, 13; Herchel, 10; Maud, 8; and John, 4. That was the 1880 Census...you can see that on ancestry.com even if you are not a member. As you probably know there is no 1890 census (because of a fire). And then in the 1900 Census a Rosamond Dove lives in Duval, Florida, age 60...also a Herbert M. Dove (could have been Herchel - and translated wrong) age 25; William age 21; and Alice age 18. If you know where & when your Rosamond/Rosie Dove died ... you could write for a death certificate that told her burial place. There is a good chance that George is buried beside her. My grandparents, etc. were usually buried together. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Hello, and please forgive me as I am VERY new at all of this. I'm trying to track George N. Dove, born about 1840 in Virginia. He married Rosamond (Rosie) Carter. He is the son of Hershel Dove and Worth Graham, my husband's grandparents. I believe George served in the War between the States in the army of Virginia and held the rank of captain, but that may be incorrect. I am able to track Rosie Carter's family fairly extensively, and I have information regarding the children of Rosie and George, but I can't find a death date for George nor any information on his parents or siblings. I'd appreciate any help.

regards, Flo Dove

Dove Family of VA - Geo W. Dove

Looking for name of father of George W. Dove, born 1809, Rockingham, VA, died 1863 in Monticello, IL. Married Zephora Runion (Runyon)1832, in Brock's Gap. Moved to Clark Co, OH shortly after. Son Emanuel Hunt Dove. Should be one of Henry Dove's sons, but no children by this name listed under any of them. He's listed in the Lewis Yankey Dove Family book, but with the dob 1812. Listed, I believe, under James Dove, but no evidence he's the father and dates don't make sense. Just got back from research trip to Rockingham, but no luck at the historical Society. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Good morning Leigh,
The PATTMANs I have were born Deptford or Gravesend however I expect a number of them spent a fair amount of their lives in the East End. I have a William born 1850 but no other details on him. I have had another PATTMAN contact in recent days so if I knew the period you are interested in then I may inquire from him about a William.

Jim
