I am interested in contact with any people tracing the Dovey name in Birmingham, England.
In particular descendants of Thomas Dovey and Ann Bambrook/Banbrook.
Thomas was the son of John and Sarah Dovey and born in 1819.
Thomas and Ann were married 25 April 1841 and had 10 children all born in Birmingham.

I recently attended an auction and am in possession of a box of old photographs that I belive to belong to Mr. and Mrs. "Mars Dovey" of Old Lyme CT based on the postcards thate were among the photographs. I am looking for the George Dovey; and yes that is how our family pronounces it; who owned the Boston Doves now the Atlanta Braves Baseball team in 1906-1909. My line was from Staffordshire and came to US in 1843 moving around and settled in Nebraska. I have been searching PA, KY, NY, and Conn. What do you need to know? Maybe I can help.

Hello - I'm looking to find any descendents of the Nebraskan born actress, Alice Dovey, who died in Tarzana LA, California. (Aug 1884 - 12 Jan 1969).

I'm not sure what your looking for here but I believe we may have a match.

My Father in Law is decended from George Dovey who married Eliza Devereux in 1839 at Hanley Castle. It does appear that he married a second time to Jane Colley in 1853 at Suckley.

I'm unsure of whose childern are whose but I have been working on the following set-up:

Dovey is a very uncommon name in the US. I'm a descendent of Samuel Dovey born in Birmingham, England probably about 1870. I believe his ancestors came from Wales. There is a Dovey river and Aberdovey there. My cousin who is a research librarian said that the Welsh "cowboys" would herd their cattle to Birningham for sale and somewhere along the line my ancestors settled in Birmingham. My grandfather eventually came to live in Brooklyn, New York and married Theresa Cain an orphan and had 7 children - Howard, Arthur, Fred, George, Beatrice, Alice and my father Clifford. Any information that anyone has regarding the Dovey family line would be appreciated. It's a common name in England, but not in the USA. And it's pronounced with the long O (as in the past tense of dive with a Y), not lovey dovey. I'm assuming that is how everyone else pronounces the name.

I'm hoping someone can help.

My g grandmother was a Lillian Annie Franks (this was first married surname). On a marriage certificate that I was lucky to find in Sydney, Aus she was listed as a widow. Her parents were Amelia Hancox and William Dovey - her birthplace was Stourbridge, England ~1873.

I have been ubnable to find any info that links Lillian Annie with the parents named in her birth certificate or any trace of her first marriage to Mr Franks.

Looking for any help at all.

Hi I have a George James Dovey Born 1862 at 67 Prescott Street Liverpool England. He married in 1894 in Sydney Australia, and died 1959. His Brothers and Sisters names are Mary Dovey Born 1844, 67 Prescott Street Liverpool England. Died 1936. Henry W Dovey Born 1852, Arthur Wellington Dovey Born 1865. Edwin II Dovey, Richard J Dovey. Frederick C Dovey and also another sister. George James Dovey Married a Maud Florence Moore Born 1873. They had 7 children. Olive Dovey (my Grandmother) DOB 6.8.1897.
Arthur Dovey DOB 1895 in Noumea, Beatrice Dovey DOB 1899. HAROLD DOVEY DOB 1902. Eric George Dovey DOB 1903 Died 1904.
Enid Dovey DOB 1905 Born in York Western Australia. Eric Daniel Ernest Dovey DOB 1906 also born in York. George became Mayor of York and also work at the York Flour Mill. I have other inforamation if this is your relatives. If anyone else has any info on the English side of things I would be very happy to swap.

My Great Grandmother was George Edward Dovey's daughter. I am confused by your line. You state that a Dovey married a Sarah in England with children Issac, Edward George, William, Dick and Sarah E. Dovey. The IGI from familysearch.org records William Dovey married Eilenor or Ellenor (Ellen) Rogers 1/20/1818 in Wolstanton, Stafford, England with children Edward George (Chr 1/3/1819), Ann (Chr 4/1/1821), William (Chr 8/1/1824), Mary Ann (Chr 11/5/1826), Richard (Chr 11/1/1829), Isaac (Chr 5/26/1833) all born in Wolstanton Wesleyan, Tunstall by Stoke Upon Trent, Stafford, England; and Francis (Chr 7/2/1837) born Bethesda Chapel Albion Street-Methodist New Connexion, Shelton, Stafford, England. Edward George married Jane Ann Johnson (Born 1827). Edward George and Jane Ann Dovey moved to Plattsmouth, NE in 1862. Could you give me more information on Sarah E. and her birth information? I am wondering if perhaps Sarah was born to another wife of William Dovey or if she was a cousin. I also do not have any information on Isaac or Richard or their descendants. Doveys from WOR, STS, SAL (UK)

Hi, I've just added a little data to the fledgling http://www.dovey.co.uk/ - mainly relating to a particular branch of Doveys from the Worcester area (UK).

These are descendents of (John) Thomas Dovey who died in Worcester in 1860. I think one branch settled around Johnstown, Fulton, New York, United States, and that another moved to the Wolverhampton area (UK).

Dovey Family of London, England 1800's

I am researching my great grandfather, Harry Ernest Dovey, who was one of nine children born to George John Dovey and Elizabeth Dovey (nee Godfrey). The family lived in Westminster, London and were known as licensed victuallers. My great grandfather married Ellen Jackson in 1892 and sailed to New Zealand the next day. I have the full names of the nine children and if there are any descendants out there, I would love to hear from you!

My husband is a descendent of William M. Dovey, born in Bleadon, Somerset, England, (per English 1871 census for Wedmore), lived in Iowa. He was born December 27, 1839. Have his obit. He had a sister named Caroline Dovey, who was postmistress in a small town in Australia. I'm wondering if your Caroline, could be a relative. There are several other children in this family, John born about 1837, lived in Nebraska, his first wife was barried in the Hazel Green Cemetery, Etna Township, Hardin county, Iowa. There also was Betsy, Henry, Mary, Sarah, Sophia. Not sure how much of that information is corrrect. Parents were William M. Dovey and Mary Palmer. I realize your post is 8 months old, but just saw it. My father, John M. Dovey, was a cousin to Mars Dovey, husband of Louise. Mars and Louise had no biological children, but an adopted daughter "Ginny". I haven't seen them since Mars's funeral in Latrobe many years ago. I too am researching the Dovey family of Worcestershire England, based around the Dudley area.
My grandfather George Dovey was born on 26th February 1894.. His father may have been a James.
The area they lived was in Kate's Hill , Dudley, Worcestershire.

My ggrandfather was George Dovey who married Ella Hill. One of his sons, Christopher is my grandfather. Christopher settled in Johnstown, PA but George and Ella Hill settled in Pittsburgh, PA. Would love to hear what you have on the family.

My former husband is a Dovey and recd. lots of goodies from relatives incl. copies of family bible pages. I've been researching my own family and haven't followed up on the Doveys. Hi Pam. I am currently researching the Hanley Swan area - two great-uncles Richard and Charles died in WW1 and are mentioned on the memorial in Hanley Castle church. In relatively early stages as I am also researching several other families - such as the Handys, Gardiners and Greenhills. As I have found with the Handys - most folks tended to migrate as general labourers and so on, and were prone to moving between villages so perhaps we are researching the same family.

Just ordered out the 1920 Census for Johnstown from local LDS Church. I'll let you know what I fine. So far I found the Grimaldi's in ED #188 (Enumeration District). Can't find any census data on Dovey. Do you know where they lived in 1920? Bolivar? Oakherst? Geistown?
