I don't know if you are still researching this photographer. I ran across his name in the Mountain Messenger (a local paper in Downieville CA. Thursday May 28, 2009. the column is "100 years ago today". The date published is Saturday May 29,1909. He was scheduled to be in Sierra City June 18,1009. "Mr Dowe will come prepared to take all kinds of photo work and has all the latest styles in mounts and folders". He was then living in Clio, which is near Greyeagle.

I have a D.W. Dowe photo of a Chinese man, ca. late 1800s-early 1900s. Probably California, maybe San Francisco, or maybe elsewhere in the gold fields. Imprint spells photographer as 'fotographer'.

They married in 1921 and moved to Detroit, MI in 1925. She died a few years later. He returned to Canada and died there in 1976-8. Any additional info or details appreciated.

My Great-Aunt's parents were from Ellenville, NY. However, I don't have any Dowe family members that I know of. My Great-Aunt was Florence Dauch and her father was John Dauch born in Ellenville and her mother was Katherine Kenner also born in Ellenville. Any connection here?

EAGLE PASS, Tex., Sept. 14 - Owen C. Dowe, county and district clerk of this country, died at 4 o'clock this morning of typhoid fever. He was serving his second term in that office and was a very popular officer. His funeral took place this evening from the Episcopal church and was very largely attended. He leaves a widow and one child.

I posted this query to the Payne Surname Board but thought I would also post to the Dowe Board. My Ira Payne b. 1851 in NY m. Dora Dowe, a widow with son Fred, and they lived in Fairbury, Neb. I know they were still married and together in 1919. Ira and Dora Dowe Payne had a daughter Leona Payne who m. a Beachler. Anybody connect to any of this?

I found Margaret Dow (spelling) on the 1871 census record at the Nova Scotia Archives at the age of 90 living with her son Ralph Parsons. I found a death record as stated above as the subject and states her parents were Robert Dow and June. I'm glad to have found a marriage date for them from your query, and I am wondering and hoping that the death data I have found is the same Margaret. But there can't be more than 1 Margaret Dow dying at 92 or 93 in the same area in the same year. She died in Port Greville, NS. She was born in Great Village, NS. What is her mothers maiden name and where do they come from? My Margaret also had a son named Daniel who was also living with Ralph and his family on the 1871 census. Daniel was 50 at the time, Ralph was 52. His wife was Susan Bennet/McDonald. This is another puzzle. I have found Susan as Bennet and McDonald and I wonder if Ralph could have married 2 Susans. Hi there,
My old boyfriend was born in Ellenville...His name is Michael Alan Dowe (b.1956), I beleive his father's name is Frank Dowe and his mother's is Allie Mae Dickens. Apparently Frank Dowe served in the military in Germany during most of Michael's childhood and I know he continued to reside in Munich until into his early adulthood. He is currently living in Manhattan and I beleive he has gotten married.
If you have any information about his family members, I'm sure that he would be interested in hearing about it.
