My father Charles Henry Downes died 23.01.1979. born 25. 08.1916. His father George Samuel Downes married Leah catherine Anthonys on 20th May 1906,lived at 30, Smith St Birmingham. He gives his age as 22yrs & Leah was 19 yrs. His father was George Samuel Downes -from the marriage certificate and a Boatman. The 1901 Census states that George Samuel Downes [senior] was head of the family and a canal boatman bargee and that another son Charles henry Downes was then aged 17yrs.
