Hi everyone, need some help with OLDHAM in county Chester or Cheshire, districts of Ashton under Lyne or Stockport, for my Elizabeth OLDHAM, b. unkn alive as of 14 Dec 1840, when she lived at Colliers Row, Newton, Sub-district of Newton & Godley, Hyde, in the County of Chester [?Cheshire].
She was the informant on son James DOWNHILL's birth record. Registration is done on 26 Dec 1840. Married Emmanuel DOWNHILL, an Engineer as per same birth record. (Two subsequent generations of DOWNHILL's were Railway engineers.)
I have not yet found the deaths of Elizabeth(Oldham) Downhill and Emmanuel[aka Emanuel] Downhill perhaps someone can connect to the Emmanuel(who I feel is related) who is listed below or to any of the other OLDHAMs, who are residing nearby. There is a death for one Emmanuel DOWNING which would "fit". Downhill and Downing in 1841 & 1851 census were recorded improperly.

d. 24 Nov 1980, Los Angeles; age 89 yrs?
Our family history says our James Downhill, emigrated with
his two brothers, one going to Canada and one to California.

There are/were some Downhill desc. in Rochester, NY.
Do you know anything about them?

I have records of 40 exsisting families of Downhill's in the world today - most trace back to the Hyde ,Cheshire roots.
