Beyond him is John II Douse 1721-1780 m Mary Unk -; John I Douse 1687-1725 m Jane Unk 1690-1725; Thomas Douse 1644-1703 m Mary Eatwell 1652-1704; (then another set of Johns)John II Dowse 1600-1670 m Sarah 1615-1644; and John I 1572-1624 m Margery Corvar 1577-1656. Note that the spelling of the last name changes from Dows to Douse to Dowse, which trips up a lot of researchers. Hope this helps.

I have oodles of John Dows in my database. The one closest to who you describe I have married to Hannah Morton, married 10/3/1776 in Boston, Suffolk, MA.

I have got back to 1750 in my family tree to a John Dows (1750-1826) who in 1776 married Jane Ludlam (1757-1837).
Do you have any record of this particular family member?

I am the youngest daughter of Frank Dows. I was very surprised to get this e-mai as I haven't posted anything recently. I am very glad to here from you. I live in upstate New York. I just found my great grandparents on the Dows Ancestry web. She was Margaret Worcester Dows and her husband was Carroll Dunham. Their son, Dows Dunham, was my grandfather who was married to Marion Thompson, an English woman. Margaret's father was David Dows, the railroad magnate. She had several sisters, but no brothers. David Dows had brothers, also with families in New York.

I'm the granddaughter of Dows Dunham, an Egyptologist in Boston who was born in 1890. His grandfather, whose name was Dows, owned a railroad, I believe it was the Rock Island Line. He built the railroad with the profits from his business making uniforms during the Civil War. He had brothers who lived in New York too. His daughter unfortunately sold their large house on 5th Ave.! I can get A LOT more information from my mother if you want.
