My email address is: bjdoying@directcon.net.
Barbara Doying (was Doyne)

Hmmm....

Interesting!

My ancestor (g-g-g-grandfather), James Madison Doyne, son of John B. and Lucy (Eaton Sabin) Doyne (aka, Theodore Frelinghuysen Upson, adopted name), was connected to families on the East Coast USA. He married Anna Elizabeth Beach after the Civil War.

These are old families in the US, and very historic.

What are the connections???

Interesting!
Deanne Rose Upson

Hello,
My g-g-g-grandfather was James Madison Doyne (aka Theodore Frelinghuysen Upson, adopted name). His parents were John B. and Lucy (Eaton Sabin) Doyne. The resided in Indiana, USA, probably in Steuben County.
My great aunt traced the lineage back to Ireland, and claimed that by lineage James Madison Doyne was a prince of Ireland. ?!?!?! Huh!? Kinda hard to believe.
Nonetheless, from James Madison Doyne (aka T.F. Upson, "With Sherman to the Sea" book), here I am!
There is a picture of Theodore in his book, if you are interested, or you may find it on the internet. His book is well quoted online.
Kindest and Most Interested Regards,
Deanne Rose Upson

Greetings,
We have traced our ancestry in America to Francis Doyne (or Doyen) who arrived here from Ulster in 1718. His descendants now exist in 3 branches: Doyne, Doyen and Doying. We are very interested in learning of ancestors/relatives (living or dead) in the Old Country. We are also involved in DNA testing for the purpose of geanealogical research. For more information, post here or email me at: aldoyne@sbcglobal.net.

Alan Doyne

I don't know whether you know this but the 1911 Census for dublin is now fully digitised. You can find all the Doynes living in Dublin by clicking the following link. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?sur...

Once you click on a name, click the 'Household Return (Form A) Page 1 link which will be the most useful. My grandfather and his father are listed there. Let me know if this is of use.

Regards,
Declan

I am also trying the trace Doynes. My family lived in Westmeath and I can trace them back to 1843. Peter Doyne born that year married to Anne Murphy. They had 8 children. I know their names but don't know what happened to them. Have lots of information regarding Doynes from Carlow and Wexford but drawing a bit of a blank with the Westmeath Doynes. Anyone with any information would be a help. Tks. Joan Doyne

Hello Paul,

I just found a message you posted in April 2002, so don't know if you are still at this address or not. My husband's ancestor supposedly sailed from Ireland in the early 1700's with a Jacob Shute. His name was Francis Doyne/Doyen - found with both spellings. Two his grandsons moved to Canada and the name became Doying. We have been unable to find his roots in Ireland. Francis is said to have been a stow-away with Jacob Shute on a ship coming from Ulster, Ireland. Hunger eventually drove them from their hiding place and upon arrival in the New World they were sold into service to Captain Ebenezer Eastman in Haverhill, Massachusetts to pay for their passage. The tradition in the Shute family is that Jacob was a son of a "French Protestant, or Huguenot, who formerly resided in Paris; but, on revocation of the edict of Nantz, fled to Ireland to escape persecution. Jacob was born about 1702, and was apprenticed by his father to a stocking-weaver in Dublin." Assuming Francis was in the same situation, I am currently searching the Huguenot population in Dublin for him and his family.

Do you have any information that might help, or any idea where I should look?

Thank you sincerely,
Barbara Doying

John Doyne Dublin

Hello, I am trying to trace the Doyne name. I didn't think it would be that difficult as we know it is an unusual name.

I have never come across anyone with the same name.

Yet now I'm trying to trace it I'm getting no where!

My Dad was born in Dublin (Frank Doyne) his dad we think was John Doyne. His mothers name was Elizabeth Lynam. They both died within weeks of each other when he and his brother Danny were only a few years old.

They were brought up in the coomb by the Aspels. if anyone has any info could they please let me know.

Thank you
Tracy

Doyne

Hi, I am not sure if the "Carlow" in Mrs. C. Doyne's Kelvingrove, Carlow address refers to some area of Queen's Co. (Laois) or to Co. Carlow. Why don't you post a query at both Laois and Carlow Query websites asking about that address, then post an addendum here on what you find. I can tell you that she was a major landowner and that in 1876 her property (1,655 acres) was valued at 904 pounds 15 shillings, which seems to reflect good land.

For birth, christening, marriage data, please check the Microfiched IGI Index for Ireland at your local Family History Center - see my note at this webpage regarding Gibby.

Jean

reverend Dean Doyne

One of my ancestors was a Charles Doyne Sillery, a poet contempary of Sir Walter Scott. This Charles Doyne Sillery's grandfather, Anthony, was married to a Jane Brett, whose ancestor was a reverend Dean Doyne from county Carlow. Apparently every generation of my family has someone with Doyne in the middle name, which apparently originated from this reverend Dean Doyne. Does anyone know of this Dean Doyne ?

Daphne,
Good to hear from you. I'm not sure about Jane's middle name. I've seen her last name written out as Hyde-Doyne and Doyne-Hyde. I've also seen her whole written as Jane Hyde Doyne. I believe her mothers maiden name was Sanders and her Grandmothers was Wharton, so I'm not sure where the Hyde comes from. I'd be really interested in talking to you. Address is c-jwatt@email.msn.com

Jim
