You are likely referring to the Michael Drabenstadt who enrolled in Mt. Joy, Lancaster County, in April 1861 as a sergeant with Co. F, 15th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 7, 1861, in Harrisburg. Given that he held the rank of sergeant, it is unlikely that he was the company cook, although he may have cooked for his mess.

His wife's name was Mary Ann. He filed for and received a pension as did Mary Ann after his death. The file is located at the National Archives in Washington DC.

There was a Michael Drabenstadt from Pennsylvania who served in the Civil War as a cook, according to family lore. His father was Tobias Drabenstadt b. 1799 and his daughter, my Grandmother, Elizabeth Drabenstadt mother of my father George Donald Arntz, Capt. USN deceased 1977, and brother to George Drabenstadt who adopted him as a child after her death.

Looking for info on Civil War veterans named Drabenstadt who served with the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. The relationship of the two men is unknown, but they appear to have been related.

1) Drabenstadt, Frank, Sgt Co B; mustered Sep 14, 1861; captured Jun 23, 1864, at Weldon Railroad and sent to Andersonville Prison; born @1842/43; died date unknown; buried in National Cemetery, Andersonville, Macon County, Georgia

2) Drabenstadt, William, Sgt Co B; mustered Sep 14, 1861; discharged Oct 13, 1864; born Dec 14, 1830; died Apr 30, 1920; a laborer from Middletown, Dauphin County; captured at the battle of Carter's Woods; buried in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania

The above would be my great-grandmother, married first to William Meiers then to a Drabenstadt. They had at least one daughter who moved to either California or Canada. Any help would be appreciated.
