No transcript survives for the voyage of the ship John, out of London, from Hull to Salem in 1638. However, researchers have tried to reconstruct the group that Gov. John Winthrop described as 'some twenty families' that traveled with Rev. Ezekiel Rogers from subsequent documents and records. One such listing can be found at the website of the Ship Transcriber's Guild:
www.immigrantships.net/v4/1600v4/johnoflondon16380000.html

Researchers for The Great Migration series, to date the most definitive of studies of the earliest emigrants to the Massachusetts Bay Colony, reconstructed a list of the ship John passengers, with all the documentation currently available. The list included subsequent Dresser family connections: Acy, Bradley, Crosby, Leaver, Scales, Thorley, but not the Dressers.

As John and Mary Dresser were among the founders of Rowley in the spring of 1639, it is thought they joined the Rogers group during the winter, having traveled to the colony before the John landed in October, 1638. It is possible that they also arrived later than the John, but that would be only a few potential ships, as the emigrations would stop over the winter months.

The Dressers may have known Rev. Rogers before they left England, as they probably lived in Yorkshire, perhaps in the Howden parish with other Rowley founders, but it is not known if they ever worshipped at the church in the Rowley parish, England. If they were not acquainted with him in the Old World, they soon chose to join his church in the New World.

I know of no other record involving passengers traveling to Rowley, MA, on the ship John prior to 1638. Hull was a very busy port and sent many ships to the Bay Colony, probably including the one that carried John and Mary Dresser.
