FUNERAL SERVICES -
-The mortal remains of a good man - George E. DREW - were laid in their resting place beneath "the clods of the valley" on Saturday last, by the Odd Fellows and Union Guard, of this city. After meeting at their Hall to make preliminary preparations for the funeral, the Odd Fellows proceeded to the residence of the deceased and removed his remains to the First Presbyterian Church, where they were joined by the Union Guard. A great number assembled in the church and listened to a short but impressive and appropriate sermon by Rev. Dr. HAPPERSETT. The Guard remained outside during the services in the church. As soon as the services were over the procession to the grave moved in the following order: First were the Union Guard, preceded by the Cornet Band; next, the Odd Fellows, who immediately preceded the hearse, which was followed by the family of the deceased and many of our citizens in carriages. On arriving at the Rural Cemetery, the Odd Fellows, as is their custom on such occasions, opened to the right and left and permitted the corpse and mourners to pass through, then closed the procession in the usual manner. On reaching the grave the Order of Brotherhood formed an extended circle around the grave, when the Chaplain - Rev. Mr. ROSS - read the ceremonies and offered prayer-Then the members of the Order advanced singly and deposited a sprig of evergreen in the grave of their deceased brother. AT the conclusion of the Odd Fellows' ceremonies, the Union Guard fired 3 volleys over the grave. On returning, the Odd Fellows escorted the family of the deceased to their residence, then returned to their hall and dispersed.
