Hi Rob!
I assume my Drew family moved from England to the Scranton, Pennsylvania area to work in the coal mines as the ones in England began to "dry up." In fact, my Elijah Drew's son, John "Billy" Drew worked in the mines, as did his father-in-law, William Freeman (also originally from England and had moved to the Scranton area), and same for other male family members as well.
I'm not sure of the exact reason my Drews moved to Buffalo, but my great-aunt Phyl, the daughter of "Billy" (above), alluded to a lot of booming industry there between WWI and WWII. "Billy" worked as a "Fire Boss" in Buffalo, and some of his children (my grandfather, Warren Drew and his sister (my great-aunt) Phyllis) owned restaurants there, including The Wishing Well, The Field Stone and The Hunter's Horn Inn.
I have some family in Canada, but they're a branch of my Freeman family (John "Billy" Drew married Mary Elizabeth "Lizzy" Freeman). Perhaps "Lizzy's" side of the family was draw enough to get her in-laws to move to the Buffalo area? Only speculation there.
