Hans Hinrich Drews (1828-1911) was married to Catherina Rohlf (sister of Johann Herman Rohlf). They had Jochim Friedrich "Fred", Elizabeth Catherina Sophia (known as Lizzie, married to Otto Detlef "Julius" Dose or Dosey), Emma, Hans Heinrich (my husband's great grandfather), Adolph and Ernest (who I believe died before the family emigrated). Hans Hinrich and son Fred came over in 1872 on the same voyage as Johann Rohlf. Hans then went back and returned in 1877 with wife Catherina and Emma, Hans and Adolph. I am really looking for the parents of Catherina and Johann Rohlf. I think they were both born in Kukels, Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Hi

I have a ot of info that can clear some of this up. Best to talk to you in person. Can you give me a call at 218-327-2768 or send me your number and best time and I can give you a call. Emma Drews is my husband's great aunt. She is daughter of Hans Hinrich and Catherina and brother to Fred. Fred's first wife Lange had a daughter also named Emma who stayed with Fred after the mother died. Looking forward to comparing notes. Nancy Drews

Hi Nancy,
Your Nov. 26 post mentioned that Fred J. Drews’s first wife was Louise Lange. Can you provide the specific information from the Chisago marriage record (e.g., date, place, ages, parents, witnesses)? I’m working on a Henry Rohlf (1851-1927) and his wife Dorothea/Dora in Pine City; Dorothea’s maiden name may have been Lange. (Henry may be the Max/Marx Hinrich Rohlf in Rootdigger.)
The 1885 state census shows Fred’s wife as Emma (age 26, with son Otto). Of course, “Emma Louise” would be possible (I’ve seen a number of cases where people used different given names on different documents).
I’ve been looking for a connection between the Pine City Henry Rohlf and the Rohlfs in Nessel Township, but haven’t found anything yet. There was also a Hans Rohlf (1824-1898) in Pine City who lived with Julius and Elizabeth Dosey. According to the census he was an uncle to Julius or Elizabeth (although his obituary indicates everyone called him “Uncle Hans”).
The Pine County online index shows three Dose(y) marriages, including Elizabeth to Julius Dosey (1875) and Emma to Henry Dosey (Julius’s brother, 1880). From census entries it appears Emma (Drews) Dose/Dosey was the daughter of Henry and Catherina Drews in Chisago County. Can you verify that Elizabeth (Drews) Dosey also Henry and Catherina’s daughter?
Thanks,
Ed Johnson

I knew they were from Schubin County, but never had a specific Parish. All your info. to Linda matches what information I obtained from Drews back in the early 1980s.
Have you come across anything new since 2003? I'd be very interested.

Hello Wolfgang,

Your message is an old one but i thought to reply because my grandfather was Edward Drews, who was born in Malinowka Poland in 1897. He was among 9 children of August and Justine Drews. At least four the children immigrated to the US between 1907-1925. THere were many Drews in Russian poland in the 1800's and there are now wuite a few in the US. I suggest going to the website www.SGGEE.org or there is one called Germans from RUssia. Drews often got changed to Drefs in the US. My grandpa went by Drefs.

Steve HEimerle, San Francisco

Hi Laurie,

I am not a blood descendent of this family. Catharina and her husband Hans Hinrich had a son named Frederick Jochim Drews. After the death of Frederick Jochim's first wife he married my great grandmother who was a widow at the time with two young children. Her name was Marie Christina Reed (maiden Boettger) and her son Frederick August was my grandfather. Frederick Jochim, through this marriage, adopted my grandfather and his sister. We are Drews only through name you see.

I decided to conduct some research on the Drews family to understand a bit about who they were, possibly find out how Frederick Jochim and Marie Christina became acquainted to marry.

I think you and I have chatted in the past and I'm looking through my notes now. Very recently I have been contacted by Nancy Drews, read this related post and you will see her info as well.

Hi Laurie Nancy Drews here. I have never found were the Rohlf name was changed to Wulf. I went to the Chisago county courthouse last week and verified Chatarina death as Nov 1884 in the records. I also have immigration records showing John Rohlf and family coming over on the same ship as Hans Drews and son Joachim (later known as Fred J Drews). This coincides with the rootdigger account for Chatarina Rohlf as being married to Hans Drews and being a brother to John Rohlf. My genealogy has been changing as I verify through actual records. I now know that Frederick Drews born 1853 was married twice but that children Mary and Fred were actually adopted from his 2nd wife Mary. His first wife was Louisa Lange (courthouse marriage records). I can not connect the Drews and Wulf anywhere. Let me know if you have anything different.

His siblings still use the "s". Raymond Richard had Raymond John who is my father. I have more information on the Drews from Mendota.
I'm looking for information on the parents of my grandma, Gertrude "Trudy" Drews. I think her middle name was Emma. She married W.W. Sheridan. I think her father's name was William or Walter or something that started with W. I think she grew up in Chicago and moved to Racine, WI when she married. W.W. Sheridan was a mechanic in WWII. His name may have been William Wesley.

I have a note that last name Rohlf was later changed to Wolf.
HI Ellamae,
My mother was very involved with the ancestry but i can tell you what i both heard and know. Maybe some of it will help you:
All my life i heard about how we were related to Robert Fulton(invented the steamboat), John Adams and John Quincey Adams. Then around 2000 or so, my mom found that we were related to Pricess Diana.
I think my grandfather, Harold Alva Drew, grew up in Ohio or Illinois. There is also a Drews Corner Maine. It's a real place and my mom was able to visit there several yrs ago. I believe there was someone at the library that was a big help to her.
She also said something about their ancestors coming into Ellis Island.
This is what i know for sure:
Harold Drew was born Feb.13, 1896. Died Nov.6,1976 He lived on Edison in Detroit.
He married Ethel Ester Bycraft(i'm sorry i don't know the yr).
They had one child, Diana Alice, Aug.31,1936. My mother.
My mom died Oct.23,2006. She was 70yrs old.
My mom married Hubert"Carter" Lawson, July 19,1956
They had 2 children, me, born Apr.19,1957 and Harold Drew, May 23,1961
She divorced him and married again in 1965, and moved to Livonia MI.
My grandmother died Mothers day,1984.

My grandmother was raised by her aunt and uncle. I don't know their first names, but their last names were Collins, and they had at least one son,Frank. She considered him a brother. Her biological brother's name was Lewis. He died at Eloise Hospital.
Before i go my grandfather's siblings were:
Florence
Erma Jean
Hollis
I hope this is some help to you, and wish i could remember more.
Sincerely,
Cindy

Catarina Christina Wolf born 1829, Schleswig-Holstein died about 1881, Chisago County, Minnesota was sister to Wilhelm Wulf/Wolf born 04 Apr 1840, Schleswig-Holstein died 02 Dec 1920, Ramsey County, Minnesota. Their father was Friedrich William Wulf born 06 Mar 1801, Puelsen, Schleswig-Holstein died 24 Nov 1882, Chisago County, Minnesota. Friedrich was married three times, first wife was Catharina Dorathea Ehlers. I have been told second wife was Emma Unknown, third wife was Margetta Gracie Unknown.
I'm researching this line for a good friend, would love to trade notes! She is a decendent of Erna DREWS and Russell MATTISON.
-Kim

Unfortunately, I don't know their exact location. According to the ships manifest, their country of citizenship was PRUSSIA. So far that is all I have. They came over on the SS Normannia to the Port of New York in May 1892.
