We're researching a line of Dreys from Schuylkill, PA. My great-grandmother was Ellen Mariah Drey (b. 1883)she married a Pierson). Her parents were Albert (b. 1860)and Alice Drey (b. 1864). Any information on this line of the Dreys would be very welcome!

From what you have said it sounds like it is possible we are related. In my records I do have William married to a Mary - They had 11 children but only 4 surived to adulthood. From the info I have George (son of William) had 1 sister (Annie or Anna) and 2 brothers (Elmer Emerson and Frank) William was a widow and living with his daughters family in the 1930 Census and was shown as 78 years old, George was also living there shown as age 29 and single.

I subscribe to Ancestry.com they have a lot of info, old newpapers, military records and such. There are also a lot of free genealogy sites. You might check the New York Libraries and Historical societies online. Sometimes I just google a person's name, but that can give you iffy results.

Hello Sheri,
Thank you for that information. My dad's fathers name was William. My dad, George, was born in Aug of 1901. (I can't find the day) I never saw William, he probably was dead before I was born in 1943. William was married to Mary Kronenbitter Drey. I did hear also that our name was changed from Dry. My dad George died in 1953 and was married to my mom Sara Drey.

It seems like you are very knowledgeable about finding family information. I have been searching for years for information about my real parents, Joseph and Alberta Canfield of New York City. I have alot of information, their names, the hospital I was born in, where my real father worked, etc. All from my adopted mom who also told me I may have brothers or sisters. I have been unable to find any other information besides that. Any suggestions would definitely be appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard Drey

Robert Albert Drey was my Great Grandfather and was the only child of George and Cecilia.

I am sure your Dad was related someway, there aren't many Drey's around, or if they are they are well hidden. Do you know what your Grandfather's name was?

I am not sure but I believe Benjamin Dry is George's Father. From what I can find Benjamin's children changed the spelling of the last name to Drey. I believe "my" George had a brother named William. William (born March 1853) had a son named George born about 1903. I am not sure who he married as he was still single in the 1930 Census.

Please let me know if any of this fits with the info you have.
Sheri

Marcy,
I have a lot of history on Anthony Drey, his son Jacob Drey, and his son Peter Drey (my gr-grandfather). My Grandmother was one of Peter Drey's daughters. I have Jacob's birth certificate from Colmar, Alsace France as well as his brother Joseph's BC. My mother was born in Sioux Falls, SD. Her mother, and aunts/uncles were all from South Dakota. However, Jacob's children were all born in Iowa.

DREY JARS: I have quite a bit of information on the jars, and a little info on Leo A. Drey, who as the designer/mfg, and have located his son. Drey Mfg. was sold to BALL in 1926, and those are the Ball Canning Jars of today. One of Drey's factories was later sold to Hiram Walker Distilleries, because of the location and the equipment.

If you wish to reach me direct, you can do so at mrrogero@aol.com

Hence this makes us distant cousins.

I have quite a bit of information on both of these brothers and their descendents as well as some information on their parents, Antoine "Anthony" Drey and Anne Marie Wackerle.

I am in the process of creating a Drey History and Genealogy book (I write books for a living) to be published sometime late next year and made available for any interested descendents.

I would be happy to provide you with what information that I have and would appreciate more information on your family as well, because I really do not have that much on Joseph's son Anthony and his issue.

You can contact me directly at mrrogero@aol.com for more information.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Marilyn
Ted,
I recently received some info from France on Anne Marie's family. Unfortunately, we are in the process of getting ready to move, so it is packed. However, if you want to contact me directly at mrrogero@aol.com I will see if I can locate it and send it to you. In addition, any info you have about her parents and siblings would be appreciated.

Thx, Marilyn

I grew up in Early, Iowa in Sac County, Iowa. There are many, many Drey's there. My great-great grandfather was George Drey, born in Colmer. France ion 7-6-1826. He came to US and after first wife died married Mary Ann Dahm. There were 4 children in his first family: M. Emma, Joseph, George and Johannah. There were 14 in his 2nd family: Barbara M, Catherine A, Anthony, Mary E, Peter J.,Mary L, Rose A, William, Ida M.M, Clara, Theresia M., Mary F, Francis L. and Edward F. I'm not sure how your Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather is related, but am VERY interested. I have more info and birth dates on the above. You can contact me at my personnel i-net address @ blkinetz@ncn.net.

Copies of the Early Centennial Book are hard to come by. My mother has been trying to find me one for years. Only a limited amount was printed. However, I do have copies I have run out of the book and would be happy to share them with you and anyone else who reads this in exchange for family history you have. I am very interested in Antoine (Anthony) Drey's info, along with any info anyone has on Leo Drey (Founder of "Drey" jars - I've been collecting for years).

Dear Angela

I would be most interested to know about the bible you have as my family (Drey) originally come from Heidingsfeld (nr Wurzburg in Lower Franconia, Bavaria).

My Grt Grt Grandfather Dr Aron Adolph Drey was born in Heidingsfeld 9th July 1818. He had a brother Jacob and probably several other brothers and sisters that I'm not sure about, but may include an Abraham and an Elkan Drey.

Any details you might have would be very greatrly recieved.

regrads

Nick Drey

I have a Jewish Bible I am researching as it goes back to print in 1821 - the name in the inside of the book is Drey with the first name being spelt Smai/Schimay,Schmai (dated 1841 near the name) this first name is spelt in the inside of the book many times different ways with the surname Drey. Also there is another name Heidingsfeld which could be the city their from or another name handwritten within the Bible. I don't think I will have alot of luck tracing the family that owns this Bible. I picked it up at an Auction in Toronto, Canada and am now trying to see if perhaps there is still some existing family who might want to know about this Bible.
The writing looks to be in German.

Thanks and anything that triggers memory or any help would be appreciated.

Beverly,

I really don't know anything about Adolph's family. I actually am researching his wife's family, Ruth Fribourg. Her grandfather was born in 1832 in France and later moved to the US. Recently I did contact one of Adolph Drey's daughters. She hasn't written me back, but if I learn anything about her Drey line, I will let you know. I know that the Fribourgs were Jewish, but I don't know about the Dreys.

Janet Akaha
