Hello. You mentioned you have additional information on Philadelphia Dreyer's.

I'd be interested in learning more.

My great grandfather was Charles Dreyer. He was German, born in Phalsbourg, which is on the German/French border. He emigrated to Philadelphia in the early 1900s and settled there.

None of the first names you mentioned in your post are names I know, but we might have a connection otherwise. Dreyer is not a commonly known name, and both your side and my side having lived in Philadelphia, and having German/French similarity, is interesting.

Appreciate if you reply via post here (I will get an alert), or directly to: selphie06@yahoo.com

My father and grandfathers were Dreyer also, both born and raised in Philadelphia.

Y-DNA Dreger (Dreyer) Project

Hello everyone,
I am the group administrator for the recently approved "Dreger Project" (a derivation of Dreyer) through www.familytreedna.com. For anyone unfamiliar with the larger project goals, Family Tree DNA offers Y-DNA genotyping and comparisons for genetic genealogical studies. Male individuals can have their DNA test results included in surname projects for comparison and determination of surname lineages. I have applied to have the Dreger Project accepted by the Family Tree DNA program and have recently received approval. What this means is that we can begin tracing our Dreger origins, comparing where we fit in with the grand scheme of human evolution, determining branch points for different Dreger lineages, and even following Dreger migration around the world! For you as an individual, this may assist you in confirming your suspected genealogical relationships derived through the production of family trees, or may help suggest new directions to go in when searching for common ancestors. It may also suggest your family's place in the Dreger ancestry. Participation will allow us to characterize the greater Dreger family and all of the associated derivatives. For more information on the Family Tree DNA project, follow this link ... http://www.familytreedna.com/
For information specifically on the Dreger Project, follow this link ... http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Dreger/default.aspx

Testing does involve a one-time payment to cover genotyping, but if you sign up through the Dreger Project link (above) you can receive a discounted price.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions!

--
Dayna Dreger
could help me find the death of Carl Leopold Dreyer. I believe the information might be found in the Kiel Archives, but I really have no idea how the system works in Germany. He might have lived in or near Meldorf.

CL Dreyer's father was Marcus Stephan Gabriel Dreyer, born nov 21, 1789 in Groß Koenigsförde, Schleswig, Denmark. (according to Eckernforde records). He married Margaretha Catharina Feldmann and had CL in Hohenholm, Schleswig, Denmark, Oct 23, 1809. Source:
Transcription of the church registers of the church of Sehestedt (Hohenholm/Hohenlieth belong to this church) by „Heimatgemeinschaft Eckernförde,
Carlshoehe 44, D-
24340 Eckernfoerde
Could someone please see if you can find them(Marcus, wife and son) anywhere, like maybe the 1835 census?
All the Dreyer's in my family either stayed in Germany or moved here to the US in the late 20's early 30's. Adolf, Friedrich, and Erna. None of them lived outside of Philadelphia though. Mainly I'm looking for stories others might have to help me know my family better.

Thanks. I'm just having trouble figuring out which Fritz/Freidrich and Henry/Heinrich and such go together. Crazy how everyone got three or four Christian names and then they still used nicknames! I have limited records from the German church, but it didn't include all the siblings. I know for certain that they are all related, but who belongs with which parent is what is troubling. A cousin in Texas has also been trying to unravel this mystery. I guess a trip to the Carson City area is in order, as well as contacting the church in Germany!

 Hi Alan,
I dont have accurate birth dates for Fred or Violet. Her gravestone says 1890. Fred died in Nov 1936 and he was aged 48 so presume he was born in 1888. The first Dreyer came to South Africa in 1713 under the name Isaac Dalgue ( Johannes Augustus Dreyer). Are you putting the family tree onto one of the ancestry sites? I would love to have a look.
Regards
Jane

 Hi,
Are you the same age as Robyn ie 22? Fred was born in Claremont, Cape Town - went to school at Diocesan College (Bishops) a private school. He studied at Stellenbosch University and then did his MD at Edinburgh University ( opthalmic surgeon). Will work on getting dates for you. Violet/Pop was a wonderful, strong, feisty woman. She had a wonderful laugh. She had a hard life but was always smiling. Good genes.
Frances is teaching in Kent at the moment. She is on Facebook.
Jane

Dear Jane,
Thank you so much for all the information. I noticed Philip's Robyn has the same birthday as mine.
Just a couple of questions:-
I presume Frederick Bernardus Dreyer was born in South Africa, do you have a birth date for him. Likewise for Violet who I know was born at Duxford, Cambridge but moved to Pirbright. I know Violet was born around 1891.

Violets ancestry links with that of my gt gt grandmother whose name was Ann Longden. The Longdens are a large family in Lincolnshire.

Best regards,
Alan

Let me know if you need any other information. I am really keen to know more now - are you putting the family tree onto a site or just for your own private interest?
PS The first Dreyer arrived in South Africa in 1713 under the name Isaac Dalgue - a political refugee.

Kind regards,
Jane

Dear Alan,
I have a huge amount of information including old photon albums - photos of Violets Mom and Dad and even her Paternal grandmother! Violet was known as Poppy or Pop - her Dad called her that as a liitle girl because she had such pink cheeks. Violet had 2 children -my father Peter Frederick and a daughter Ann Rosemary who died at the age of nine of leukemia. Ann Rosemary was her first name ie she was not called Ann. Fred was an opthalmic surgeon who died at the age of 48. He and Violet divorced and he remarried Louis Pentz - they had no children. I will get all the dates of birth and death together for you. Interesting stuff.
Jane

Sorry that we haven't responded but just checked this site recently. We have recently become aware of some pictures of your mother, Louise, with her father and stepmother, Ella. One was at her wedding. She was obviously an important part of Charles Dreyer's life and I'm sure she was a wonderful person. Do you have any brothers/sisters? Was Ruth Louise's sister and is she still living?

Hi! Thank you so much for your response and information about you and your family! My direct email is bethanygreg@frontier.com -- I'd really appreciate any other information you have. I got involved in our family's genealogy after my dad died in 2006. We knew his side was from Germany, but didn't know where, when they'd immigrated, etc. I keep in touch with my dad's cousin who remembers your mom giving her fancy dresses in NY in the 40s, but that's about all we knew. Her mom's name was Louise as well. :)

I discovered my German Great-Grandfather was Friedrich Strassburg (my dad's name was Frederick Strasburg). His sister, Marie Strassburg immigrated to NYC a few years before he did in the 1880s, and changed her name to Mary Strasburg. Mary had three children, Charles Dreyer, Mary Dreyer and Frank Schaal. Your Grandfather, Charles Dreyer, had his dad die when he was 2, and his mom died when he was about 14 years old. Charles was apparently married 4x, and Adele was his 1st wife.

I've had so much fun with this, because I love history and finding out more about my ancestors, even ones we didn't know about! I put together some information, hard copy, for my aunt (my dad's sister Mary Louise) who is in her 80s, and my dad's cousin who is also in her 80s, for Christmas a couple of years ago -- it was wonderful to share that info. with them!

I found that your mom died in California, but I really don't know much about her life including that you existed! although I'd always wondered if she had kids. If you would like to, feel free to email me -- I'm sure my aunts would love having this info. after all of this time!!

My dad moved from the East Coast to Berkeley, CA in the early 1960s, and I'm still on the West Coast. Thank you again, and if you'd like to write to me directly that would be great!

Bethany

Gottlieb Dreyer is listed on the passenger list at Port of Baltimore entry in 1832, with his family, entering the US from Germany, in the 30 Sept 1832 Quarterly Report of Baltimore, Maryland. Son, Frederick Dryer, changed the spelling, had moved on to Warren County, Ohio and settled in Missouri. The other children of Gottieb, Louisa, and Charlott, have not been traced but Ernest and Henry are listed in the City of Baltimore 1860 census.
Beth
GlassByBeth@aol.com
www.Beth-website.net

My name is Helene Dreyer Bladek, daughter of Charles Stuart Dreyer son of Charles Fredrick Dreyer and Helene Stuart Dreyer. My father's sisters names were Billie(Larsen) and Jackie(Mauck). I have been searching for my relatives for a long time and had found this posting naming some of them. My father, deceased(May 1992 of Lung Cancer) would tell us stories when we were small about his family. I know he loved his sisters very much and was deeply affected by the early death of his mother (Helene) when he was only 9yrs old.
It would be wonderful to finally connect the photos that I have without names to a part of my father's family that I have never met and only know little information about.

Please reply to this posting or email me with any information.
Thank you,
Helene(Dreyer)Bladek hbladek@comcast.net
