I am from the Driggs side of the family that remained on the East Coast (Connecticut) and did not move west where a large contingent was part of the LDS. My great-grandfather was a genealogist (who I knew, Alfred Waldo Driggs) who wrote a length history of the family which he published and I have.
He does not go back to Europe, but I saw mention of Jan De Raedt Driggs born in The Netherlands. His parents did not have the Driggs name. He was born in 1622 and it appears that he immigrated to New Amsterdam. Was this a case where upon arrival he was assigned a name Driggs instead of his original name...Jan De Raedt?
