Hello,

- Wondering if anybody else is researching the family of Dan Driscoll and Margaret Loony. I have no marriage record for them. Their known children were all baptized in Caheragh R.C. Parish:

Patrick (1820), Ellen (1822), Florence (1825), Mary (1827), Daniel (1829), Ellen (1830 - my gg-grandmother), Margaret (1833), James (1835), Johanna (1838 - Joha may be indexed as Tim), John (1842), indexed as Tim.

(The records are extremely difficult to read around this time.)

The Driscoll children had seven Regan baptism sponsors. I'm still trying to figure out which side of the family the Regans were on or even if they were relatives.

-- Mary Driscoll (1827) married Andrew Maguire also of Garrane, Caheragh. He may have gone by Bery or Besy. I think they were married in 1846. The children I have found so far were:

Norry (1847), Jane (1851), Timothy (1853), Patrick (1855), John (1856), Andrew (1858), Jude (1859), Michael (1861), Timothy (1863), Thomas (1865), James (1867), Jeremiah (1870).

-- Johanna Driscoll (1838) married Denis McCarthy of Dromore, Caheragh, in Jan 1864. At the moment I cannot find a marriage in the church records, but I have seen it in civil registration, and her father was Dan in Garrane. Denis McC might be a Crimeen. Their known children were:

Jeremiah (1864), Mary (1866), Daniel 1867, Denis 1869, John 1870, Patrick & Margaret (1873), Helena (1875), Julia (1876)

-- Ellen Driscoll (1830) married Michael Collins of Lissane Lower, Caheragh in 1854. I have lots of details about the Collins family.

-- Margaret Driscoll (1833) married Tim Cadigan of Skibbereen in 1858. They lived at times in Rosnagoose, Drisheen, and eventually Bridgetown Skibbereen. Their known children were Mary (1858), Julia (1861), Ellen (1862), Honora (1865), Margaret (1871), and Julia (1874).

Since the original posting I think I have found three more:

-- Florence Driscoll (1825) married Catherine Healy of Lahertydaly 1855, They lived in Lahertydaly and they had James (1856), Margaret (1859), Mary (1862), Patrick (1865), and Ellen (1867). Catherine Healy died in 1869, Florence remarried, to Margaret Minihane (a cousin to Catherine Healy) and they had John (1871) and Daniel (1872).

-- James Driscoll (1835) married Mary Minihane (also of Lahertydaly) in 1861. They lived in Garrane and they had Margaret (1861), Pat (1863), Daniel (1865), Mary (1868), Jeremiah (1870), John (1873), Ellen (1875), James (1878), and Johanna (1880).

-- John Driscoll (1842) married Mary McCarthy of Lacka 1869. They lived in Lacka and had Margaret (1870), Ellen (1871), Pat (1872), Mary (1873), Daniel (1875), Johanna (1876), Florence? (1877), and Jeremiah (1879).

I'm not sure about Pat (1820), but it's possible he married a Catherine Sullivan in 1841 and they lived in Garrane. They had a son Daniel (1841), Margaret (1843). There was a daughter Mary born 1846, who had a godfather John Reagan. I think Catherine died, possibly in childbirth, because a Patrick Driscoll married a Mary Regan of Dromcorragh the next month, with a John Reagan a witness. From that union came John D (1846) and Patrick (1848).

I am unable to determine what happened to Dan (1829), and also what happened when a Daniel and James vanished from Garrane about 1882, according to the land valuation records. This family is incredibly difficult to research - by the looks of it the boys did not follow the tradition of naming oldest sons by the paternal grandfather. If the information I found on four of the sons is correct, they all named their oldest daughters Margaret which I find interesting.

I am very interested in finding cousins descended from these Driscolls!

Update 10-Feb-2013: New research shows that Florence and James settled in the Lewiston Auburn area of Androscoggin, Maine, USA.
