Hello,

Sorry I have not responded sooner. You are correct - Humphrey Driscoll is a rather common name. I think it is concentrated around Skibbereen in west Cork, but haven't verified. Perhaps these Humphrey Driscolls were named in honor of Donnchadh Mór's youngest son Amlaíbh, who died in Tralee in 1234.

Have you had any luck finding your ancestors in the online records? I see the marriage of Humphrey Driscoll and Mary Daly, 22-Apr-1869, in the Skibbereen records. Witnesses Patrick McCarthy and Cornelius Shea. Then Mary baptized 15-May-1870, godparents John Driscoll and Ellen Driscoll. Residence given is Cullenagh, which is on the north end of Castlehaven civil parish, outside Skibbereen.

I have Driscoll ancestry from the area. Although I am not aware of any Humphrey Driscoll close relatives, we did have them as baptism sponsors and as neighbors.

In addition I am the co-admin of the Driscoll DNA project.

If you have a male Driscoll relative who would be willing to DNA test, he is welcome to join the Y-DNA project. Anybody with Driscoll ancestry is welcome to join the autosomal DNA project. More details about DNA testing here:

Good luck with your research!
