Oscar Alonzo Driskill Jr. of Grapeland, Texas, was also married to Lela Browning, who died at age 34 in 1918. I am not related to the Driskills but to the Brownings of Grapeland. I'm seeking more information on Lela, specifically trying to nail down her parentage -- either James L. or Lucius Browning.

My line comes from John and Mary Elizabeth Mikesell. Their Daughter Sarah was my great Grandmother. Sarah was married to Adrian Metzger.

is attributed as Jesse Driskill, at his home in Spearfish, South Dakota. Would that be Jesse Lincoln Driskill Jr.? I am no relation, but I am fascinated because my wife and I now own the house in that picture.

A Driscoll who died young? Texas or possibly Kansas

This is going to be fairly long, but I hope some of you will bear with me. My great grandmother, Martha Jane "Mattie" Daily (spelled all sorts of ways)was born in 1860 in Indiana. Her father, Frederick Daily, was a farmer but appears after the Civil War in Wichita, Kansas purchasing and running two large hotels in the mid-1870s. He next turns up in Fort Worth, TX, in 1885 and from then until he enters VA home in Kansas in 1901. In FW he ran saloons and hotels. Died in 1904. Daughter Mattie was also known to run boarding houses and hotels.

Mattie doesn't appear in any official documents until Fort Worth 1900, but different sets of cousins have all heard this story: Mattie, either in Kansas or Texas, married a Driskill who was related to the Austin hotel Driskills. They went to San Antonio (ostensibly from Fort Worth) where the young groom sickened and died when they got back home (again assuming Fort Worth). I put Kansas in here too since we don't know when she left Kansas. They appear in the 1875 Kansas census when she is 15. We have also heard that she did "finishing school" in Kansas. She must have told this same story about being widowed by a Driskill to her daughters by her 2nd husband. Years later cousins who did not ever meet had basically the same story from their grandmothers, who would have been these daughters, Ruth Octavia Ratican Scott and Hortense Ratican Abbott.

I know there were some Driskills in Fort Worth. Does anyone have a clue about a Driskill who died young and would possibly fit the bill for romantic lead in this story?

There are many Driskill family trees listing Henry as the son of John Driskill and his wife Catherine Morris. But none of them cite a source for the information. Was there a will naming him, land transfer, church baptismal record, etc.? I need proof of the relationship and can't seem to find one.

William R Driskill born TN abt 1823, lived Todd, KY and Hamilton, IL

I've also asked this question on the Hamilton County, Illinois message board.

I'm trying to find William R Driskill (other spellings Driscal) who is listed in the 1880 Census as living in Beaver Creek, Hamilton County, Illinois.

His daughter Anna Frances Driskill, my 2nd Great-Grandmother, married Warren Taylor and is buried in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery in Jefferson County, IL. Warren is buried in Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Jefferson County, IL.

I've found few references to any of Anna's siblings except her sister Mary Jane. Most immediate family tree connections are descendents of Mary Jane Driskill (d: 1905 Alabama) who married John Martin Frymire (d: 1925 Alabama).

In the majority of family trees, Laughter family, William R Driskill is just referenced as Sophia Laughter's spouse. These trees have very little information on the Driskill family.

I can find no record of William R Driskill after the 1880 census even after searching through Hamilton County cemetery records. Did he pass in Hamilton County, Il or move to another location?

I am looking for information on George W. Driskill born about 1858 in Kentucky. He was possibly born in Todd county. His son was Frank King Driskill born in 1877. Frank was born in Crawfordville, Indiana to Elizabeth J Covington. I can't find a marriage certificate for George and Elizabeth. Elizabeths parents were John Covington and Margaret Barron. I don't have parents names for George. George has not come up on any records. I would appreciate any information.

Thanks for responding. I started to think there was no one out there who knew anything. My Great Grandpa was Ben Parker and wife Nancy Payne (Nannie). Ben deeded over the land for the Parker Cemetery on your family land now I think. My Great -Great- Grandpa Josephus (AKA Joe Parker) and Nancy Ann Allen were his parents but I am sure you know that. Ben's son John Wilson Parker (AKA Wilson) was my Grandpa. I am curious about any stories or info on Ben or Josephus. I would love to hear anything about the family from then or any photos,etc. Please get back with me when you can. I also Teach so I understand about time.

I would love to know more about the homestead there. I heard a few things about an old house at one time and the farm.

mrsduncan2007: I must be the person you're looking for. My gg-grandfather, Zack Driskill (Sr.) purchased about 85 acres from the Parker family (I have copies of the papers around here, somewhere). I grew up chasing cows around there, my parents moved their home to the highest point of the 'Parker Place' near where an old home had stood, about 200 yards in front of the Parker Cemetery.

I spent much of my 'growing-up' time there, and my family still owns the property.

Ask away. I teach, so time isn't in great supply for me. I will do my best to get you information if I can, if I can't, then maybe I can point you toward someone who can.

hello, my name is catherine wilkinson, i am sure you have seen my name on the message boards; i am a very determined genealogy person who right now is struggling with this lineage on my tree, actually i have broken a bit of the wall, i found a picture of Toliver Simpson Driskill, so that will show you how my determination is.
i would like your help in finding an end to my tree, or a beginning in a another country, like ireland, beause that is where daniel driskill (driscoll) came from. i spell the name that way because i know he came from Dublin, Ireland.
his father's name is of course driskill, but that is where it ends. there is no dates, now wifey,nor any other background - CAN YOU HELP!

Three daughters (Sarah H, Mary Elizabeth, Nancy Jennie) and three sons (Cornelius Mikesell, John W. and Clarence) all b in Plymouth, Hancock, IL. Cornelius (Neal) ended up in Villisca and Corning, Iowa. Sarah and Clarence went to the Denver, CO. area. My family is connected to Cornelius and Irene Driskill. my family of driskills settled in campbell county, Va. in 1767
there names were David Driskill and moses driskill from what i can learn is that the last name suffix depends on how the census taker wrote the name down. you need to check driskell and driscoll

My husband is related to the DRISKELL Family through Lucinda, daughter of Rev. Samuel and Isabella "Ibby" Driskell. I checked the public library in Sedalia, MO as well as the Pettis County Courthouse, in the hope that I would find a death notice and will. Unfortunatly, neither of them produced any results. In the 1800 Federal Census for Rockingham County, North Carolina, there is a Moses Driskell listed as the head of the house with a wife and son, who would be under 10 years of age. I believe that this is Samuel and his parents. I, just like everyone else who is researching this line, would appreciate any information that they are willing to share or discuss. I look forward to hearing from any of the Driskell Family, particullary the siblings of Lucinda.

I am not sure if this is a match, but I have in a book on the Lathem family the following: John Wesley Driskill bn 1845 died 1917 buried in Livingston Co Ky. md Rosa Lena Pace. They had a son named Henry Washington Driskill bn 1872 died 1891 buried in Livingston Co Ky. Md Josephine Russell. The only child listed is a Thomas Henry Driskill bn 1892. Hope this helps...Lynn

Lillie Jane Driskill

Im looking for any leads to the parents, siblings or other relatives to Lillie Jane Driskill. She was born in Austin Texas in 1883, married James Rountree in 1900 and died of Typhus in Mesa Arizona in 1917. I am stonewalled at finding any information on her parents, siblings or other relatives.

It turns out that the library of congress keeps papers like this for archival purposes. So, all you have to do is find the document and request a copy. Of course, the Library of Congress is an OCEAN of documents, so finding the right one could take some time! I'll see if I can find a link to "Driskill" documents from that era, and post it.

My Driskill line is the Daniel Driskill line also. The descendancy is as follows: Daniel Driskill>Obadiah Driskill>Legross Washington Driskill>Mary Henrietta Driskill (my great-grandmother). How were you able to obtain the copy of the hand-written deed by Thomas Jefferson to Daniel Driskill? I look forward to hearing from you and would be happy to share information I have. I was helped years ago with my initial search by a very generous researcher.

I am not sure if there is any relation, but my great uncle lives in Crockett, Texas (or Latexo). His name is H.L. "Jake" Driskill. He was on the school board for a long time. He is my mother's uncle. I know there is also another set of Driskills in Crockett. One of them was a town official. I can't remember his exact title, but I am not related to that set.
