My grandmother was Margaret Droste, and my mother is Ines Merrill. I live in Boise, Idaho. My uncles Alex and Gus still live in California. My youngest uncle Christopher died about a month ago. My maiden name is Merrill. My aunt Edna died a while back, not sure what year and my uncle John died a long time ago.

Droste to Droster

My first relative, Heinrich Droste came to America in June of 1845 with his brother Christian. They ended up in Blooming Grove, WI in the late 1840s with other families from a town in Germany called Hille. He married Eliza Wittemeyer in 1850 and bought a farm in the nearby village of Burke. By 1860 his name added an "r", Droster. He had a cousin come over in 1870 who also changed Droste to Droster. Anyone else have this happen with there line of Droste's?

My grandfather was Darrel Droste. I remember my grandmother and grandfather, mother and aunts talking about Uncle Clarence. We live in Wisconsin. My aunts and grandfather and grandmother lived in Adams County Wisconsin. There is a cemetery near my grandfathers house with descendants of the Droste family. Dates and names are quite worn.
There was Agnes, Clarence, Marvin and I think 2 others?

Hello-

I found Theodore and Kate (Kappel) Droste's obituaries in the Alton Telegraph. I'm researching the BEIDE family and two of Kate Kappel Droste's sisters each married Beide brothers. Catherine "Kate" Droste was daughter of Joseph KAPPEL and Elizabeth LUKE. Elizabeth Luke Kappel later remarried Henry KASPARI and moved to York, Neb. where she had several children with him. There were four Kappel children of Joseph and Elizabeth: Mrs. Theodore (Catherine) Droste, Mrs. Fred (Theresa) Beide, Mrs. John (Frances) Beide and Mr. John Kappel.

I'm attaching the obituaries for Theodore and Kate Droste. It does list siblings for each of them that survived at the time of death.

I am trying to find out possible siblings of Theodore Droste b. July 9, 1853, d. February 25, 1941. He was married to Kate Kappel. He resided most of his life in Godfrey, Illinois.
I think my g-g-g grandmother Caroline Droste- Ressman (Stephen) also of Godfrey, IL is his sister but I can't make a positive link. Any information on the Droste or Ressman families would be a great help.

I have started researching the Droste side of my family. All I have is that my GGGrandmother, Sophie Droste (St. Louis) married George Johnson(Baltimore) who fought in the Civil War. Their children were Anna, Kate, Henry,Will, Frank and Bert . They were all listed as living in Savanna, IL (500 acres) in 1869. Anna(g grandmother) married John Grawe(Germany). Their children were Sophie and Mary(my grandmother).
My best friend lives in St. Charles and when visiting her a couple years ago, I remember seeing a street named Droste Street. Do you have the history of the Droste family in St. Charles? I would be very interested in anything you could send.

I'm afraid I don'y have any files on the Droste family in my computer. What I do have is a fairly complete genealogy of the family in Germany back to the 17th Century. I descend, by the way, from Theodore's youngest son Caspar Melchior, who was an M.D. in Grand Rapids. His son was one of the three founders of the Ferguson Clinic there (once called the Ferguson - Droste - Ferguson Hospital).
As I am in the process of moving house, I cannot send you the information just yet, but I should be in a position to do so in about three weeks.

I have a John Conrad Droste and Rosa Todtmann arrive in United States in 1903. They were both 21.
Next time I find them was in Santa Rosa and Napa California in 1908 and 1909. 1920 rosa is on census but no John, in Los Angeles, California. She is also located on 1930 census also

John Conrad Droste and Rosa Augusta Todtmann immigrated from Berlin Germany in 1903. They were both 21.Found them living in Santa Rosa California in 1908. She was found on census records 1920 and 1930 in Los Angeles California. Do not know if they married before they left Germany or not. He died somewher between 1910 and 1920.

I too am doing my family & have not got very far with Droste.
My father's name is Robert Droste. He grew up in Oxford,
Wi. His parents were Nellie & Ervin Droste.
Which would be my grandparents.
Ervin's parents were Mary & Frank Droste.
Which would be my great grandparents.
They lived in Wisconsin Dells (probably Kilbourn)
I believe their whole life. They were married in 1906 in
Hancock Wi. Mary Bruckner's parents lived there.
I do know that Frank Droste sailed here from Germany
when he was a boy. Frank's date of birth is Aug 29,1881
My grandfather's (Ervin) brother was Herb Droste & drove
boats in the Dells for many years.
Any information would be very helpful to my search.

are my mother-in law's grandparents, her mother was Grace Drostie-Martin.
You may find more info on RootsGen or something like that. I don't have my info handy as I gave it to my husband to show his mother.
Henry and Rebecca both are from Prussia , Germany. I couldn't find any further info on them other than their children, dates of birth and death.

Hermann Heinrich Droste, born 21 October 1840, is the son of Bernard Heinrich Droste and Maria Carolina Schweigmann of Hopsten. On 2 July 1867 at Saint Dionysius church in Recke, he married Maria Amalia Strootmann, born about April 1846, daughter of Johann Gerhard Strootmann and Maria Luise Ruhe (? surname) of Sunderbauer.
I do not know if this is the same Hermann Heinrich Droste who married Bernardina Vorberg on 6 June 1875 in the same church. Perhaps he was widowed and married a second time.

OMG OMG !!!!......I am the gg grand daughter of Henry Droste....hehe....this is what i have on him...

He was born May 1846, came from Germany...married Rebecca(b Nov 1853 and had the following children....william C (my g granddad),Anna L(not sure about this one was hard to read on the census), Mary C, and another girl named either Grace, or tracie L.(again it was hard to read)

In and around 1920 Rebecca was listed as a widow and living with tracie(grace?) and her husband...they had two daughters named Coreen age 2, and Alex age 1

My grand dad William C went on to marry a woman named Florie(not sure about spelling)...william became a black smith and they had serveral children....named Annabelle, Clarence, Cecil, Frank, Mable (my mamaw). There may have been other children , i dont know....I know they called Florie "Mam".

Mable Droste , wiliam and florie's daughter (the baby of the family b 1917) went on to marry John G Hughes and they had two children...William C Hughes (my dad) and Mary Ann Hughes.....Im sorry to say..but my Mamaw passed away May 5 of 2000. She was a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. I miss her terribly.

My great grandfather John Anderson Shannon was born abt. 1875 in Cincinnati, Ohio possibly to a William Shannon and a woman with the maiden last name of Nieske or Neske. Her mother was a Wilhelmina Nieske (Neske) b. about 1827 in Germany. She was married to a Henry Nieske or Neske who lived in Cincinnati. Henry died and Wilhelmnia remarried a Bernhardt Droste b. abt. 1825 in Germany. Wilhelmnia and Bernhardt Droste were married in 1868. They both had several children from their former marriages and some children together. They lived in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana for many years.
Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone? I would be interested in information about any of these people.

Ninna and Wilhelmine Droste- Ger to US w/ uncle Noltimeyer

Not my direct line but trying to figure out how mine connects... In 1904, per ellisisland records, Fritz Noltemeyer, age 50, was traveling with Wilhelmine Droste, age 23, to Valley City, North Dakota. Fritz (probably later known as Fred) was her uncle. The manifest states Germany/Germany/Rhine.

In 1910 Fritz Voltemeyer was traveling to Valley City, North Dakota with his wife, Dora, daughter Fieda (age 10), niece Ninna Droste (age 26), and nephew Friedrich Korf (age 16). The manifest states the name of Ninna's parents but I'll be darned if I can read it. I do know that Friedrich was definitely from Sonneborn, Lippe.

I also know that this Noltimeyer- don't be picky how you spell it- lived in Saint Paul Park, Minnesota for a time and that at least one of his sons later moved back to MN.

I GUESS that Noltimeyer also ended up being Nolting (MO to MN) but have no proof of this.

I would very much appreciate an email if this means anything to anyone.
