My late grandfather was Istvan Drotar. Born around 1894 and died November 1950. He and his wife had 4 children, all born in Beregszaz. In 1939, they all fled to England, taking the second to last ship, leaving from Poland, before war broke out. My grandfather and grandmother returned to Hungary, whereas their 4 children remained in England, bar the eldest daughter, who became a GI bride and went to live in the USA. They too, have now passed away. The only remaining, immediate member of this family, is my late mother's younger sister, who still lives in the UK (aged 73).

Hi Carol, Have you done any research on the Fiebing side of your family? Karl August Fiebing age 51 and his wife Maria Sophia Mueller age 52 and two of their children, Rudolph Albert Wilhelm 17 and Wilhelmine 16 arrived in Ionia MI in 1872 from Ducherow, Prussia. The 1880 census for Ionia also lists a Herman Fiebing family. What the relationship is I don't know yet. Supposedly the Wisconsin Fiebings are also related. Karl August (b. 7-11-1820) parents were Friedrich & Friedrika (Kading) Fiebing, my GGG Grandparents. All were shoemakers. Rudolph moved his family to Traverse City, MI abt 1882 but his widowed (prior to 1880) mother remained in Ionia until her death. Three of my grand daughters are 6th generation Traverse City residents. If you have any additional roots to my family or if I can share more of what I have, please contact me. Greg Fiebing

My wife is Shannon Drotar; her father, Tom Drotar; his father and mother are John Drotar and Anna Novatny. Tom passed away this last January but tried to provide as much family info as he could remember. He was the third youngest and only listed 10 brothers and sisters. I would be very happy to provide you with his info if you would share yours with me, especially any based upon sources other than memory. Does anyone know anything about John Drotar's father and mother. None of the three living children knew anything about their grandparents.

Katherine Drotar Elias Novotniak

Katherine Drotar Elias (a widow) married my grandfather, Michael Novotniak (a widower), in McKeesport, PA on 4 June 1916. I have a copy of their marriage application and some documents from that point forward and, oral information that provides a few leads about her prior to 1916.

It may have been an arranged marriage since my natural grandmother died on 9 April 1916 after bearing a child on 1 April. There were five children in the household.

Katherine was born 14 February 1877 (place unknown, but assume Slovakia) to Michael Drotar and Elizabeth Repak. She married Elias (no first name available), who died 1 August 1914. When and where the marriage took place is unknown.

My mother remembers her telling stories about how flat the land was where she lived before marrying my grandfather. I believe that was in the vicinity of Streator, IL and where her first husband died.

If any of this is familiar, please let me know.

Ron Svec

Has anyone found the name Joseph Drotar in any of their searches? He was born probably in the 1890's. His first wife died, with whom he had 4 or 5 children. He married my grandmother in the later 1920's. They had one son, my father, in 1929. They lived in a small town in Pa. If you have any info that would help please e-mail me.
