Sorry for such a long reply. I had started looking years ago and with no luck quit. Now, I've been fired up again.
Yes, I'm sure it's Droz because Victor and Stella were my grandparents on my father's side. Now, what it was before Victor's parents came over? Who knows. It could be any variation, Drozdowski being the most common Polish version.

Please, let me know if you've found any new information.

Ron, I descend from the Droz of Puerto Rico. We are all family. The first Droz came to Puerto Rico from Venezuela during the XIX century. He came with his family and settled in Ponce but nowadays their descendants are in many towns such as Aibonito, Coamo, Mayaguez, etc. Do you know the town your mother was from? Do you know her given name. I have a relative that has a lot of information on the Droz/Dros families of P.R.

A friend of mine found her biological mother in Puerto Rico by contacting an organization called A.L.M.A.. I think they have volunteers in Puerto Rico. She initially went to A.L.M.A. in Manhattan, New York City. The Droz surname is not common on the island, so it will be easier to trace.

Please, write me at < miridom@frontiernet.net >

They would have lived probably in NY state somewhere, or possibly New Jersey. My great-grandmother was named Clara Droz Montague.

Thanks!

Are you sure this was never spelled Dorsz/Durst/Drost/many variations & misspellings. I ask because both Victor and Stella are names in our family....Dorsz and Michalski. The surname Dorsz is spelled different from birth record to birth record. These families (along with Rusinski and Flak) moved from Buffalo, NY and lived in and around Detroit. We have pieced together Jan Dorsz back to immigration, have his parents names, we think, but none of his siblings. Let me know what you think.

I am truley sorry I can't help you there. I do know that most of our family of Droz came from FR. then some immgrated to Swit. Most have dark hair and blue eyes. Now I don't know this for sure but I was told my one aunt gave a child away back in the early 50's . She is a very small woman with dark hair . Looks very Fr. with a darker complexion. My son ran into a Droz down in Tx. here a few years ago that was from Mex. I can't tell you a darn thing about them tho. I figured that when they came to the us. an stayed the first few years down in La. that they might of traveled south. If I learn anything I will contact you. connieg@netins.net

I am (mainly) trying to bridge the Atlantic with my Droz ancestors who lived in Jefferson Co, Iowa 1860, said to have come to the US in 1856. Does anyone have information on Peter RIVEY or any of the DROZ family below?

Joseph DROZ, b about 1803 in France
Mary (wife) b about 1805 in France
George b about 1834
Amelia, b 29 May 1840, in Belfort France, m Peter Rivey b 27 Oct 1834 in France
Elizabeth b about 1844, m James A Liblin
Mary Justine Philomen b about 1850, m Antony Keller
Christian b about 1838, m Vincent Palm

It appears that a number of releated DROZ families from France settled in the same area in Iowa. Has anyone put all of this together someplace?

I know it was a difficult choice, because I was given up at the age of six months.
I was told her background was P.R. Her physical description fits your description of your aunt.
She would have lived in NY. If you have any information, I would be so thankful

I have read over you history. Some is right and some is wrong. I am the great granddaughter of Lewis John Droz and Phena Mae Viles. I have a picture of Lewis John and Lawernce John. I have a grandson that looks very much like Lawernce John . My brother Dan who passed away in 2000 and my cousin Ed Mitchell both looked very much like Lewis John. My father Clifford J. Droz was married to Willa Bea Cook . Does any out there have any pictures of Lewis' wife Julia E. Droz

I was adopted in the early 1950's from Foundling Hospital, at the age of 6 months. I would like to either thank the person who gave me up for adoption, for the wonderful life I have, to let her know that her difficult choice was a good one.

I also want to know more about my heritage.
