I believe that Albert's first wife was Mary Drozd, the sister of Joseph Drozd. Joseph wife Mary Todor had died about 1920 and he came to Danbury,CT with his two children John and Mary and Albert's two children about 1925. Joseph Drozd is my wife's great-grandfather. He worked in a hat shop and died in 1939. His daughter Mary(my wifes grandmother) died in 1970 when my wife was 10 years old. We only learned about the connection between the two families when I put together the family history. If your husband is the son of John Piela, then he must be either Dennis or one of his brothers. Dennis and I were good friends at DHS.

I some how missed this post in 2006...I hope you still can get this answer.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Roy Gannon
The two children of Albert and Mary Piela(Anastasia and John) came to Danbury, CT about 1925 with Joseph Drozd and his two children John and Mary. Albert's wife Mary must have died about 1918. I believe that Mary was Joseph Drozd's sister because in the 1930 census Anastasia and John are listed as his niece and nephew. Joseph Drozd is my wife's great-grandfather(he died in 1939) and worked at a hat shop in Danbury. I know that Albert married a woman named Josephine whom I think had been married to Albert's brother.

I do not know if the Piela and Drozd families came from the same place in Poland. The one placename that I have connected with the Drozd family in Lukawiec(Lukawice).
I know the family of John Piela in Danbury...ironically, one of my best friends in High School was John's son Dennis. I only realized that he and my wife were related after putting together her family history.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Roy Gannon
lgannon01@yahoo.com

Hello Sharon, it was really nice to get your short message. Who knows, maybe we are distant cousins in fact. As we can see there are a lot of Drozds all over the world. Answering to your questions: for now I didn't contact with any church in Nowotaniec area - it could be helpfull as far as civil marriage or death records which you are (and me) interested in; any informations I have, these are family informations, from that region as well, I was there 2 years ago; second step will be to gain some informations from parisch in that area; only parisch is able to give some informations on that case of those times in Poland; besides gentry's surnames ofcourse as for example "Potocki"; what's a pity Drozds are not gentry surname (ha,ha); Palys as well; I act slowly (becouse of lack of time - work and study) but effeciently I hope. And now - there are two places I'm getting some informations about the Drozds family, particularly about: Jersey City and Pittsburgh. I'll by a card and get to know more about US geography.
Sharon, and now I will answer where I live. In fact it's one of the best city in Poland. You can meet here Czech's, Germans's, Jewish's and Polish's history. This town is Wroclaw. South-west part of Poland. Here are also a lot of people in that area who came from the east (Galicia) after the WWII. For example Stanislaw's daughter-Maria (maiden Drozd), then Palys (Palys from those-Galicia area as well)-my mother. You can fell here many cultures influences.
Sharon, sorry. It's late. I must go to bed. In Poland it's nearly 3 pm. I'm sorry for any errors. Henryk. I'm waiting your reply.
Hello Jen, Thank you for your reply. Additional information is that Funeral Directors were Kwiatkowski Brothers in 1953 and 1958. Names you gave are the same as in my family but with some changes. Wojciech (it was a popular name in that time and nowadays) was a Jan's father. Jan was born in 1869 and came to US in 1904. And Jan was Stanislaw's father. Stanislaw was born in 1900 and he stayed in Poland (Galicia in those times). I have a Joseph Drost's funeral card (1958). Maybe he was Jan's son or maybe he was just a Jan who changed his name after arrival to US.
Another interesting thing is that you wrote "Niemiec" surnames. Becouse Jan's mother and Wojciech's wife was just Agnieszka Niemiec. So maybe we are cousins in any way. It worth to check it in my opinion. Henryk.
P.S. I will try to answer as soon as possible. But becouse of work and study it may last some days.
How did you received any parish records?

St. Ann's Church and Holy Name Cemetary are both located in Jersey City.
I have gone back that my GGGrandfather was a Stanislaw Drozd son of Wojciech Drozd, according to parish records received from Poland. Is it possible there could be a connection (I'm not quite sure of how popular Wojciech is of a name for that time frame.)

Hello Sharon. Thank you very much for your reply. Answering your questions: I don't know why Pennsylvania as a place they chose, as far as relationship I wrote nearly all I know. Look at
http://www.genealogy.com/users/p/a/l/Henryk-Palys/TREE/24347...
to find out more, please.(I try to correct the family tree from time to time).I also would like to add that I'm writing from Poland therefore I 'm not able to tell you a lot of about The Drozds in USA although I'd like to. As the additional news I will tell you that I have two small funeral cards of Joseph Drost and Weronika Drozd. The Solemn High Mass had place at St. Ann's Church. Is there such a church in your neighbourhood? Or Holy Name Cementary, or St. Cross' Cementary?
You sent to Olena Drozd (I'm sorry for reading your correspondence, but it was just out of curiosity, who and what writes on the Drozds board) that your familiy was from Nowotaniec, Krosno and Sanok area. That is exactly the same region where my GGparents emigrated from in 1904 and 1905. I suppose we probably have the same roots as far as the Drozds family! And now what is the most important - it'a 4 in the clock in the morning (in Poland) so I want and I must to go to bed. Thank you for your attention!!!

Joseph and Apolonia both immigrated to the US from Poland in 1907, and settled in Elizabeth, NJ.

Apolonia came from Niebylec, Poland. She was born in February 1889, and died in 1943.
DROZD Jan, Weronika came to US in 1904-05, Ellis Iland

I know that my GGmother - Weronika DROZD (KOZMA before marriage, born about 1877, died 1953)came through Ellis Iland to US on July 11, 1905. She was about 29 years old and came to her husband - Jan DROZD (born about 1869, died 1958?)- who had already been in Jersey City. He came through Ellis Iland to US on July 05, 1904. The ship that Weronika DROZD came to US by was called VADERLAND. Port of Departure - ANTWERP, BELGIUM. Last residence in POLAND (Galicia, AUSTRIA in those times) - NOWOTANIEC (NOROTANIEC as in Manifest document).
The ship that Jan DROZD came to US by was called KAISER WILHELM II. Port of Departure - BREMEN, GERMANY. Last residence in POLAND (Galicia, AUSTRIA in those times) - NADOLANY (VODOLANY as in Manifest document).
They had children: Maria, Jozef, Wladyslaw, Helena,...? Teofil and Stanislaw (they both left in POLAND-(ODRZECHOWA)/AUSTRIA).
And Jan DROZD's parents were: Wojciech DROZD and Agnieszka (NIEMIEC before marriage), and Weronika DROZD's parents were Jozef and Brygida (CHRZASZCZ before marriage).

I wonder (my mother Maria DROZD PALYS) what happened next years with Jan and Weronika DROZD,and with their children ?
HENRYK PALYS.

For now I would be also interested in following surnames in Poland,Ukraine and USA:
PALYS, NIEMIEC, DROZD, KOZMA,MYHAL, DUDKO, DUCIAK, WARCHOL, WROBEL,ZAK.
