I am new to Drummond research and am hoping the seasoned veterans can educate me concerning the Drummonds who lived in London, England during the 18th century and how they might be connected with the Scottish Drummonds.
My ancestor is Samuel Drummond b. 25 Dec 1766 d. 1844 London. He married Rose/Rosa Hudson 27 Feb 1794 Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, London, England and was the son of James Drummond. According to his uncle William Bicknell, Samuel was a portrait painter of high rank in St. Anne Soho and an Associate at the Royal Academy. James Drummond was a baker in St. Luke's parish, Middlesex, when he married William's sister Jane Bicknell Feb 1766 St. Mary's, Newington, Surrey, England. Another biographical sketch states that James Drummond "fought for the Pretender in 1745, and in consequence was obliged to leave the country for some time." I would like to find out, if possible, where James may have gone in the interim between 1745-1766.
The International Genealocial Index (IGI) lists a James Drummond christened 03 JUL 1715 Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London, England, the son of Laurence and Elizabeth Drummond. Another son Thomas was christened 22 FEB 1712 Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London, England. I could use some help verifying whether or not this James Drummond is, in fact, the father of Samuel Drummond. There are only a couple of James Drummonds listed for this area within this time frame, but a ton in Scotland, if that happens to be where he was born.
Laurence Drummond will be another matter altogether, if he proves to be the father of my James Drummond.
Thank you in advance, all Drummond cousins, for your kind help.
