Drummond DNA

I would like to find the Drummonds who had their DNA tested. While my immediate family comes from Walker Co., Alabama, my DNA shows a connection with Drummonds in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. I have been through many Drummond people in that area but cannot figure out how I and my family connect with these Mid-Western Drummonds. I have a large tree with many of their names but show no overlap with my family. I hope someone out there can help me.

Many Thanks in advance
Martha Drummond

You start with what you know. That is, the names, birthdates, birthplaces of your parents and grandparents. Ask your grandfather the names and info on his parents and grandparents.

Once you have done that, you can start to look further back.

Go to Familysearch.org and read some of the information they have posted to get you started. They have a free program (PAF) which you can download and use to organize and record your family information.

Be very careful what information you put on the internet to protect yourself and your family. You will find a lot of information on www.Cyndislist.com

You will find a lot of information on
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

Seeking information and descendants of Lyman and Irene (Drummond) Green. Irene was the daughter of William Drummond and Octavia "Tavie" Thornton of Mississippi. Lyman and Irene were married 19 February 1937 in Michigan. Irene died 23 August 1989 and Lyman 6 May 1992; SSDI suggests they were living in Caddo Parish at the time. Obituary look-ups appreciated. I have a scanned image of a letter that Irene wrote to her Thornton relatives describing their marriage; would love to send a copy to their descendants.
susan.marston@comcast.net
I have recently learned that Thomas Madison Drummond had two wives, one Rachel Evans by whom he had many children. Then during the Civil War he moved to Indiana to avoid fighting and apparently while there fathered two children. One was Alfred Drummond; the other was Mary Elizabeth Drummond. TMD moved back to Walker Co. AL at some point, bringing his children with him. Alfred remained in AL, married, and had children. The girl disappeared after the 1900 census. I know nothing of his second wife. (He apparently divorced Rachel according to a later census. And in 1900 he and Alfred were living in a different household from that of Rachel.) I have traced my brother's DNA to Drummonds in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. If anyone can help me connect TMD to a wife in that area, I would be eternally grateful. Her name may have been Elizabeth Allen.

Thannks

Looking for Nellie V Drummond b about 1913 in OK daughter of Jesse Franklin Drummond and Annie Margaret Barnes. Jesse did research on the Walker family with his grandfather John Wesley Walker in 1911. Would like to find who in the family has all the notes from this research. Jesse Drummond was a printer in the newspaper business so it would stand to reason that he could possibly have the info. Jesse and Anne were in OKC in 1910 and 1930 and in Long Island NY in 1920. Anything on this family would be greatly appreciated.
thanks. Nolin Christensen

I just now saw the notification for your posting--We need to compare some notes, as I was up to three marriages when you contacted me regarding Ann Bennett. I have questions about Ellen, who I find mentioned only in Samuel's will. The link to William Bicknell's memoir should answer your question about James' whereabouts between 1746-1766. I have wondered if his marriage to Jane Bicknell might not have been a 2nd marriage. I will e-mail you directly--I suspect you have better access to records than I and can straighten out some of my misconceptions.

Hi I have just come across your message board while doing some research. I am the 2xgt.granddaughter of Samuel Drummond. I have all the same info as you and yes I believe Laurence and Elizabeth are the parents of James born 1715. My grandmother always said the family could be traced back to Annabella Drummond who married Robert the third of Scotland. The only Laurence Drummonds I can find on any research sites were all born in Scotland.
I don't know if you have found anything about James between 1745 and 1766 but I have not been able to.I wonder if he fled to France like a lot of Scotsmen did at that time.
Samuel was indeed an Associate of the Royal Acadamy,he also taught at the Acadamy painting school for a time and was I believe the curator of the school at one stage. Samuel was married twice the second time to Ann Bennett who he married in 1825.
His youngest son Julian (my gt.grandfather),and his sons Julian Edward and Philip Maurice (my grandfather) were also artists.
I hope this has been of some help.

I am attempting to locate information on the descendants of Augustus Lee Drummond (1889 Adams, Ind., 1932 Grant, Ind.)(He is listed as Lee in the census.) married to Ila Dell Johnson (1889 Marion-1950 Marion, Ind.). His father was James Wesley Drummond.

They had four sons: James harrold Drummond (1909 Ind.), Clarence R. Drummond (1911-1980), Robert Leroy Drummond (1913-1997), and William E. Drummond (1918-1920). Robert L. married Helen Crystal McNeely (1922 Ind.) and fathered Robert Edward Drummond. I have been unable to locate other wives or children or any other information other than census which shows all with their parents through 1930. Can anyone help? I will be happy to exchange information.

James Drummond had a son named Edward and I have seen the name Edwin also used for this same son. I have never seen anything documenting his parents or any siblings and am curious where you found the info on his brothers.

The only reason I suspect William F. may be related is that they married sisters. William is a common name in the Drummond families of Chesterfield and Dinwiddie Counties of VA where I suspect these Drummonds originated.

As far as I know, Samuel & Rose did not have a son named John. That is not to say John Drummond may not have been a close relation. What I've been able to piece together so far:

Laurence Drummond m. Elizabeth Unknown
Thomas Drummond christened 22 Feb 1711/12 St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England
James Drummond b. christened 03 Jul 1715 Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England

James Drummond m. Jane Bicknell Feb 1766 Middlesex, England
(Military Service 1745--fought for The Pretender, Jacobite Rebellion and was exiled for a number of years.)

Children: Samuel b. 25 Dec 1766 Middlesex; Jane b. abt. 1768; Elizabeth b. 24 Dec 1770

Jane Bicknell, d/o John Bicknell & Jane Green, b. 08 Apr 1746 d. 24 Dec 1770. Her brother's memoirs indicate he thought his brother-in-law James was a ne'er-do-well who couldn't hold down a job and destroyed his sister's health.

Jane Drummond married George Frederick 10 Oct 1795 Saint Andrew, Enfield, London, England.

Elizabeth Drummond--I have found no further information.

Samuel Drummond is my direct ancestor. Military service: in the Navy about 1784. He was a painter of portraits and naval history and a member of the National Academy.

Daughter Emma Beeston Drummond b. 26 Jul 1791 St. James, Westminster to Samuel and Ann Drummond.

Samuel married Rose Hudson on 27 Feb 1794 Saint Clement Danes, Westminster. Children: Eliza Ann b. 27 Jan 1799; Charlotte Angelica b. 13 May 1801; Jane b. 30 Jul 1803; Samuel b. 31 Mar 1806; Sarah Sophia b. 18 Oct 1809--all in Westminster. No date of death for Rose Drummond.

Samuel married Ann Holanby abt. 1816. A daughter Rose/Rosa Myra b. Dec 1816; Julian b. 1826 St. Anne Soho.

Rose Myra Drummond painted under the names of "Rose" and "Myra." Her best known was a miniature portrait of Charles Dickens, which he gave to his wife as a wedding gift.

Two of Samuel's grandsons (sons of Julian) also were painters in their own right.

Mind you, the records are confusing, and someone with a better access to and understanding of English vital records may be able to clarify and/or correct my understanding of this family thus far.

I wish the gentleman who wanted the scholarly information would step in again. I too want scolarly information. I do have DNA that says I have both Begg and Drummond blood, but I have yet to be able to trace the one Begg name I have--Robert Beggs of Ireland and Ontario, b. 1824-1876. But I cannot get beyond this point. The nineteenth century book mentioned in one of the posts says that there are documents beginning with Malcolm Beg. But where are they? He provides no bibliography.

Roderick, we probably aren't very closely related. I am descended from Annabella, but Alexander D. seems to be VERY distant from my family. I am descended from Gov. William Drummond of Bacon's Rebellion fame or infamy, depending on whether the historian one is reading is British or American. Alexander was a side-line I was chasing and found his family interesting given the mix of names. There are, I notice, many Roderick Drummond's back there, so you must be carrying on a family tradition. We have so many William's it is difficult to know who we are talking about.
Thanks for your insights.

Martha

My great great grandfather on my maternal side Christopher TODD, married Mary DRUMMOND b1819 Lamesley, Gateshead. Her parents were Thomas DRUMMOND and Jane (PATTERSON).

Mary was the youngest of ten, the other brothers and sisters being William, Jane, Ann, Elizabeth, George, Alice, John, Robert and Thomas.

It was your ‘Issac’ DRUMMOND that rang bells, but when I checked my records, I realised that I had recorded an Issac on a memorial inscription that pre-dates your Issac. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a link to that particular DRUMMOND line as yet.

I have memorial inscriptions with DRUMMOND surnames from Lamesley, Penshaw and Tow Law. The Tow Law memorial inscription is for Mary DRUMMOND’s brother Robert and his wife Hannah.

Do you have any connections with DRUMMOND’s from Lamesley?
Between 1603-1661, and again between 1693-1775, the name Mc Gregor was proscribed by law owing to the rebellious activities of the clan, and Campbell and Drummond were two of the most common names which were adopted by McGregors as a result. I therefore suspect that Sir Andrew Drummond may have been a McGregor originally, as I have never heard of any large-scale changes of names by Drummonds, let alone to McGregor.

There is a long-standing family tradition that my Drummond ancestors were originally McGregors descended from Rob Roy -my father understood that we were descended from one of Rob Roy's sons who married a Miss Drummond and assumed her name because of the proscription. I have managed to trace a feasible line of descent from Rob Roy, who appears to be my 7-times-great-grandfather; his second son Coll seems to be my ancestor through his early marriage to Sarah Mohr McGregor (possibly also known as Drummond, though I have not been able to establish this). Nor have I been able to work out just how much Drummond ancestry I have, though it appears that I am descended from Annabella Drummond, queen of King Robert III of Scotland, on my mother's side. You and I may therefore be distantly related. My g-g-grandfather Alexander Drummond (1786-1865) emigrated from Comrie, Perthshire to Nelson, New Zealand in 1855 together with members of his family and that of his brother John.
Regards, Roderick

(now London). I have not followed that John 1840 may be he had a son called John in the 1860's. Try Westminster or Bermondsey or Camden Town which is where some of the family went to incuding my g.grandad William Drummond abt 1864 (John 1840 brother)
Hazel Byford nee Drumond

My dad said that she was full-blooded native. I don't know why he thought this, but his cousin corrected him. I'm told someone did some research to trace her family, but stopped when they found native blood somewhere down the line. I was doing research on this line to find a Burnison/Drummond connection, but what I found didn't match what my dad had heard from my grandfather. There was clear miscommunication here between my dad and my grandfather or my grandfather and another relative of mine.

I've done a lot more information since I wrote that post, and it all hinted at what you mentioned in your post, but I'm glad that you posted this reply because it clears a lot of things up for me.

I look forward to any further information you might have, and if I find anything I'll send it your way, but it seems that you have already done quite a bit lol. I'm in Hamilton, ONT, btw.

Kindly Appreciated,

Mark Adam Burnison

Margaret Drummond Burnison was not a full-blooded native, nor were either of her parents.
Her father was George Drummond of Ireland, and her mother was Emma Shaw/Book, daughter of Dorothy Shaw, whose parents were United Empire Loyalists, and step-daughter of Adam Book.
The name and origin of her birth father are unknown; possibly he was of First Nations extraction.
Her sister, Martha, is my great-great grandmother.
I am interested to know why you think she was a "full-blooded native"? Is this a story in your line of the family?
Happy to share dates & details with you if you need them.

Hi, whomever Drummond you are... my name is Jeremy Drummond. I am 21 years old. My father David Drummond is a baby boomer born in the fall of 1956. His father, Casey Drummond was born in the summer of 1926. Casey's father George Drummond was born in 1888. And George's father, his name is unknown but I'm sure he was born in Scotland. George bought or somehow aquired 21 acres of land in central Alabama in like 1919...after he returned home from WWI. Today, My grandparents, parents, and uncle all share our own homes in the vicinity of this deeded land which was like I said aquired somehow by George a long time ago. There are also another set of Drummonds who live about 1 hour north of us. We live about 20 minutes north of Birmingham... out in the country. The other set of Drummonds own their own Coal company and has for years. The Drummond Coal Company Inc. is well known throughout the state of Alabama. In fact, they own a very vast and isolated portions of land scattered throughout Alabama. They drive helicopters; we drive cars! LOL! but seriously-they are filthy rich and have nothing to do with this set of Drummonds because we are not as rich as they are. Anyways, I'm blabbering. I don't mean to be nosey or anything but where in the U.S. are you and your folks from? Im very interested in the first Drummonds. You know, My parents went to this Historian lady a couple years ago and,"in a nutshell-Drummonds were known as a royal family in Scotland back in the day and also Drummonds were alcoholics and outlaws!" ...And this old lady knows her stuff. Ironically... Im not an outlaw but my father and I and almost every other Drummond male is an alcoholics. For some reason Alcoholism never hits the Drummond females. But anywho. Send me back an email or something. Jdrummond21@live.com or mezmriz1987@yahoo.com -Thanx - -Jeremy

I am working on that branch of the Davenport family currently. I know that James Drummond had two brothers, Allen and Edwin C. I have not found anything on William F. Drummond.

Do you where Nancy Green got the middle name Patience?
