I am searching for where my gr-gr-grandfather came from and his family. He came to the US in 1871 from Scotland (where he had lived from approx 1850) where he had mined coal after leaving Ireland during the famine. I have no way to travel upward from Thomas without finding his family. The 1851 Scotland census shows his origins as being Sligo Ireland. Anyone out there with information that might help...please let me know.
