John Dryden(rs) is my 5th G-Grandfather. I've never been able to find his Revolutionary service though.Right now the biggest thing going on is that several of the Drydens are sharing DNA information to see where this leads among the different branches.

Mrs. Ann Dryden Dies at Home of Son Here

From the December 12, 1929 issue of Lincoln County News of Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee

Shortly before two o'clock Monday morning Mrs. Ann Dryden passed away at the residence of her son, H.E. Dryden. She had been ill for some time, and for the past week her condition has been critical. Mrs. Dryden was born at Boonshill on January 1, 1848. She was reared in Fayetteville, the daughter of Robert S. and Polly Woodard, the progenitors of a numerous and worthy family. She had since childhood been a devoted and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, and attended this church up until the time of her confinement to her home.

In 1870 she was married to Mr. Thomas E. Dryden, who preceded her to the grave seventeen years ago. From this union three children were born, Robert D. Dryden, Mrs. Robert Naylor, of Sherman Tex., and H.E. Dryden. She was a woman who possessed fine Christian qualities. She took a great interest in church affairs. During her life she made many friends and her home was one which always welcomed her friends and those of her children.

The funeral services were conducted at the church on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. R.S. Brown, assisted by Revs. Harris and Hudgens. Burial was at Rose Hill. She is survived by her children and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Taneya
My Genealogy Blog - http://www.taneya-kalonji.com/genblog

Especially curious about three families in the Hamilton County, FL 1870 census, headed by Benjamin, Matthew, and Berry. All have half a dozen children and they do not show up anywhere in 1860 or 1880.

Well, I am looking through all the threads online but it seems (as far as I can tell presently) that none of these other Drydens being discussed have anything to do with the Ware Co., GA Drydens.

I did not realize how many Drydens are out there since we hardly ever hear the name in our little area of the Country.

Thank you so much. I can download them or you may mail them to us at:
Jerry Dryden
1536 Jones Rd.
Jacksonville, FL 32220

You wouldn't happen to have any other original/copies of documents pertaining to them, would you? Since Bladen Co., NC courthouse burned more than once, there are almost no records to be found unless an individual has been fortunate enough to have them passed down within the family.

Thanks again.

J.
Thank you, I did not know anything about the Crocketts. Of course, that goes a little far afield from my husband's descendants. I will see if I have anything on Aaron at all. Most of my information came from family, family Bibles, some from Huxford's Gen. Library. There ARE mistakes in his research (human error/word of mouth always plays a part in this as well as typos on the old "typewriters").

I try really hard to get the best, most correct info. that I can but as I am sure you have found out, it is a continuing process sometimes without direct family information.

Keep in touch and I will see what else I can dig up.
This part I have. I understand all my Drydens from Ware Co. even elder John forward. I have elder John's father, William, and his father John, the RS, b. 1/26/1749 in ??Norham, Northumberland, Eng. and died 1796 in Warren Co., GA. His wife was Ann MNU. I cannot find how he got to America. I have searched so many ships at all kinds of ports of entry with no luck. If I could find him maybe I could find his parents back in England.

Perhaps this is as far as we will ever get. I have huge books of information on both sides (and, of course, then there are both sides of those sides, etc., etc.). I have more luck finding his families than I do my own. I enjoy the search and detective work though.

I know this listing is old but maybe you check it anyway. I am the ggranddaughter of a William Dryden from Indiana. I know that he had a son, William Jefferson Dryden. Could we be related? Do you have a history of your husband's family? Wm.Jefferson was born in Gibson Co., Missouri and is buried in Iowa. Contact me if we connect with anything.

P.P.S. - Buzzy/Vicki's kids names are: Adrian, Marilyn, and Daniel. I may be missing one or two, but those were definitely the 3 kids I knew of us when I lived upstairs from them. Just remembered the exact address too - it was 3415 E. Earll Drive in Phoenix.

Destiny, I think I can help you a bit.

Biven (known as "Buzzy") was my apartment manager and a good friend of mine when I lived in Phoenix back in the 90's (1991-94, I believe). He is/was married to Vicki Campbell, and they had several children. The address of our apartment complex was in the 3400 block of E. Earll Street in Phoenix. Buzzy tends to keep to himself, so it does not strike me as unusual that you "can't get far in your search" to find him. I believe he prefers to stay low key.

Not sure about the Texas thing, as Buzzy always told me he was originally from Kansas City. But the name is an exact match. Matter of fact, I can remember very well once upon a time him instructing me never to call him "Biven".

I lost touch with him after we moved, then they moved, and I never saw or talked to him again. It would be great for me to find him again, too. I really enjoyed the guy, he is one cool cat. I hope all is well with him and his family.
Last possible address I knew of for him (them) was in west Phoenix, behind the mall at 19th Avenue/Bethany Home Rd in an apartment complex. I searched/got the address off the internet, stopped there while on vacation and knocked, but nobody answered.

Destiny, I sure hope this limited info helps you, and if you talk to Buzzy....tell him "Detroit John" says hi!

- JP
I am looking for ANY INFO on my paternal great-great-grandmother Hannah (nee DRYDEN) McSweeney's family. My Grammie told me that the DRYDENS were from Chicago, IL. Names that I have records of:

known 1887-1890s
E.W. Dryden
71-73 22nd Street near Prairie Avenue
Chicago, IL

E.W. Dryden owned a carriage/phaeton/wheelwright shop, Dryden & Co., at the above address.

19 APR 1940
Miss J. Dryden
1053 N. Shore Ave.
Chicago, Ill.

From an address book of Hannah's daughter, Lizzie J. McSweeney.

I have a digital photo of a tintype of "Minnie Dryden" and a cabinet photo card of "Merry Xmas to Aunty McSweeney, Dryden Ennis". I also have many unidentified digital photos of people from Chicago, IL. that I can share along with my great-great-grandparents and their descendents. Other relative surnames: McSweeney, Miller, Doyle, Callahan in: Detroit, MI; Buffalo, NY; Rochester, NY; and Chicago, IL.

Hannah was born in Ireland according to census records and died in DEC 1913 in Michigan. She married Owen (Gaelic for Eugene) McSweeney (also born in Ireland) and they raised their family in MI:

1) John Edmund
2) Mary Ann(e)
3) Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie J."
4) Hannah Jr.
5) Ownie (a nickname for Owen Jr.?)

PHOTO (tintype): Minnie Dryden

I do know about Benjamin - the others may be his sons. Benjamin is descended from the Dryden line that lived in Ware co. Ga. Before that the family came from Bladen co. N.C. The earliest ancestor that i have on this line is John Dryden who came from Bladen co. in the 177o's and died in Warren co.Ga. in 1796. "Pioneers of Wiregrass Ga." by Folks Huxford has good info.
Hello,
Wow, you have waited a long time for a reply to this post! Rosa Dryden was my Great-Grandfather's beloved little sister. She was afflicted with appendicitis while vacationing with her family at Payette Lakes, in McCall, Idaho. They brought her back to Weiser, we were told, where she sucumed to the raging infection the ruptured organ caused. We have always thought she was buried in Weiser, not Ontario. Now we know where to bring her some flowers. Thank You for this Post. Bet she hasn't had anyone stop by to remember her in many, many years!
