Sorry.....(especially to Sue). I've been away from this thread for a long time. Since my last post, I've discovered that my g grandfather was, indeed the cabinet maker from Germany, detailed in Sue's post, but he married a fellow immigrant...Lizzie Merrin was, in fact, the wife of my other g grandfather on my mother's side (ie my grandmother's mother in law & not her mother)

GRANDAMOY....I think there were /are a lot of Dryers in Manchester/Liverpool....some were "natives" & some (like mine) had foreign roots &, gradually, their name changed to the nearest local equivalent (mine started off as Dreher). My Dryers were Lutheran Protestants, but one of my other main branches were of Jewish origin. Jewish family history is "one of the most challenging" (ie very difficult), but I've found a lot of help from posters on a British site called Family Tree Forum....they've got 2 or 3 Jewish posters who are incredibly friendly & helpful. Please give me a shout if you have any problems finding it.
