Re: Alfred A. DuBan

Thank you for replying, Nicole.

I know a lot more about Alfred DuBan since that post, but little on his ancestry. Let me know if you see a link in any of this.

Summary:
Alfred (b. Aug 5,1839 Middlesex, London, England) and his Father, Joseph (b. abt 1818, France), came to America in 1851 and moved to Philadelphia. Joseph served briefly in our Civil War, and died between 1865-70. Alfred married Emma Amelia Jenkins in 1863 and died in 1868. (His wife remarried in 1870 and started my Bruce line.) Alfred had two children, Emma Amelia and Alfred, Jr. Alfred Jr had no children, so his DuBan name died out with him. Sister Emma married Charles Pagels and had daughter Adeline Pagels. Alfred Jr was a wealthy man and owned an accounting firm in Phila. We have stories about him, but none of his money.

My public tree, a few years behind, is here:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&...

searching for Joseph J. DuBan's line

Hi! I'm tracing the lineage of Joseph J. DuBan, my grandfather.

Pop was born in Pennsylvania on 1/17/24 and recently passed away on 5/28/10. His father is Stephan (or Stephen or Stefan) was born in Vienna in 1885. Stephan's wife, Helen (Helena) nee. Moravcik (or Morawczik)was born in 1887 in Bratislava. They had two children prior to coming to the US: Francis (Francisek)in 1909 and Mary (Magdalena)in 1914. Both children are reported to have also been born in what is now Slovakia.

Pop was married twice. In the first marriage, Pop had 2 sons. That marriage ended in divorce or annulment. Joseph then married Mae Oswald and had two sons. I'm the daughter of their youngest son.

I'm looking for any information to trace my grandfather's line back further than my great grandfather. My grandmother's line was a breeze! But I want to know where my direct ties to the family name are from.

If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate if you could share it with me.

Thank you!

Ethel, what's the name of the book? I'm a DuBan living in Philadelphia and am trying to trace my roots back. I know my great grandfather Stephan (or Stephen or Stefan) was born in Vienna in 1851. He and his wife, Helen (Helena nee Moracvik (sp?)) and 2 children - Francis (Francisek) and Mary (Magdalena) came to America and lived in Philadelphia. Joseph, my grandfather, was their 3rd son and first of their family to be born in Philadelphia. Joseph was married twice. The first wife had 2 sons and their information is unknown. The second wife gave birth to my father and so goes my line. Unfortunately, I started my family tree project too late. My grandfather passed in May, so all of the DuBan family info he had is now lost.

I don't have an Alfred on my tree, but I'm a DuBan. My great grandfather Stephan (or Stephen or Stefan) was born in Vienna in 1851. He and his wife, Helen (Helena) and 2 children - Francis (Francisek) and Mary (Magdalena) came to America and lived in Philadelphia. Joseph, my grandfather, was their 3rd son and first of their family to be born in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, I started my family tree project too late. My grandfather passed in May, so all of the DuBan family info he had is now lost.

I'm wondering if there is a connection between the families. DuBan isn't a particularly common last name and they both lived in Philadelphia.
Charles Duban

Brenda, I replied to your Korbel inquiry and I can also help with the Duban information. Charles Duban's parents were Charles and Anna (Mracek) Duban. His Bro Sis were Anna (Frank) Voracek, Mary (Stanley)Voracek, Thomas, Rose (George) Polak, Frank, and Emil. If you need more info you can probably contact John Mracek 610-12th Street SE Owatonna, MN 55060. He has published a book which has this information. He doesn't have anything prior to Charles Sr. but he does have more on Anna Mracek. I can supply you with more info also if you can't contact him. I have a copy of the book
