My father recieved a letter in 1978 from Eliza Jan Dubel from Velsen Netherlands, he wrote obtaining my dad's address from a Pittsburgh phone book. He stated in a short letter that he found the Dubel's originated in France and immigrated to the Netherlands. Although a french name, oral history has our branch was dutch. I have found no living Dubel relations in Virginia's lower Shenandoah valley from where my great grandfather and his brother moved to Pgh. from.

Thank you so very much! I have a copy of a portion of his Naturalization papers. I'll get copies of the full application and whatever comes with it and start from there. I am SO glad I didn't take it all as "The Undeniable Truth" and have questioned all the research!

If there is anything at all you ever need looked up or photographed in the New Orleans, Louisiana area please don't hesitate to call on me! We have some excellent records here that aren't yet online!

Thanks,
Lisa

To do a good research we will need as much information from his naturalization papers about his place of origin, his name, age (or year of birth) and ancestors. Without that it will only be guesses.

Jan in Amsterdam

I thank you very much for comfirming my thoughts. This "researcher" was retained by a distant cousin around the 1970's. I came about this information through another cousin and something just didn't make sense to me.... but then we get that sometimes in our research don't we?

Seeing that this ONE and ONLY tie past my great grandfather is totally wrong I have some work to do, deleteing 3-4 generations sent to me via the cousins cousin who was duped. *sigh* I wonder what she paid... and now, how do I tell them we need to "Prove" it all again? My problem!

I'm beginning it again from my great-grandfather whose name is John Dubell, who stated his name on Naturalization papers as Anythony John DuBell. He came to the States between 1864 and 1869.

Where do I find these records you are speaking of?

I'd appreciate any help at all!

Your researcher may have gotten you bad information. The following is from http://www.genlias.nl/en/page0.jsp:

Bron Burgerlijke stand - Overlijden
Archieflocatie Het Utrechts Archief
Algemeen Toegangnr: 481
Inventarisnr: 460
Gemeente: Utrecht
Soort akte: Overlijdensakte
Aktenummer: 276
Aangiftedatum: 14-02-1883
Overledene	Anthonij Jan Dubel
Geslacht: M
Overlijdensdatum: 13-02-1883
Leeftijd: 36
Overlijdensplaats: Utrecht
Vader	Anthonij Dubel
Moeder	Hendrika van Beek
Partner
Relatie: ongehuwd

It says that Anthonij Jan Dubel, whose parents were Anthonij Dubel and Hendrika van Beek, died in Utrechts province on 13 Feb 1883 at the age of 37 (which is how old your Anthonij Jan Dubel would have been if he were born on 8 Apr 1846).

You mentioned that he changed his name and birth date. There are many Jan Dubel's in Genlias, you may want to check the others listed.
My grandmother was Leah Burhl Dubel who was the sister of Omer Dubel. See my posting of this date. I am particularly interested in old photographs that may exist for Tyson David Dubel (1859-1907), his wife Amanda C Delaughter Dubel and Tyson's father John David Dubel (1829-1913)who married Mahala Marken. I have a picture of John Dubel (1801-1871) who is John David Dubel's father and Tyson Dubel's grandfather. I also have some photos and locations of some of the Dubel gravesites. I also have a picture of Leah Burhl Dubel but thats about it. Perhaps we can compare notes and share information.

Michael Dubel Sr. married 1767 in Burlington Co., NJ, Y-DNA test

So far, two male descendants of Michael Dubel Sr. with the surname Dubel (or variant, like Dubell) have done Y-DNA testing. One is a descendant of John Dubel and one is a descendant of Michael Dubel Jr., both sons of Michael Dubel Sr. We still need at least one descendant each of James and Joshua Dubel to test, the other two sons of Michael Dubel Sr. Please contact me if you are possibly interested in testing. Y-DNA testing helps to verify one's paper trail documentation. Also, hopefully, eventually, we will match up with someone still living in Michael Dubel Sr.'s homeland, Germany (see last paragraph).
I will be happy to discuss the Y-DNA results with any cousin who is interested. Also, even if you are not a descendant of the above Michael Dubel Sr., but you are a male and have the same last name or a variant, like Dubell, Duble, Deubel, Tuble, Teubel, etc., don't hesitate to get in touch with me about the possibility of doing Y-DNA testing. Who knows, we may end up having a more distant common ancestor?
Last, I recently located Rachel Dubel Cramer, daughter of Michael Dubel Sr., in the 1880 federal census. She was a young 91 years old then, and it was recorded in this census that Rachel was born in NJ, her mom (this would be Martha Clutch) was born in NJ, and her dad (this would be Michael Dubel Sr.) was born in GERMANY. This is the first solid evidence I have found of Michael's origin.
Frank Dawes, fldawes13@verizon.net

I have done quite a bit of research on him. Let me know if you need anything else.
Neil Gothier
gothlone@cox.net

Joshua Duble and Sarah Phifer are buried in New Hopewell along with Michael I believe. They were the parents of my GGGrandmother Amy Eldridge Duble who married Thomas Ramsey Holcombe. Looking for any and all knowledge on any of these people. Would like to find where Amy and Thomas are. Thomas's parents David Holcombe and Jane Ramsey are buried in Williamstown at the Old Methodist Cemetary. Thomas and Amy's daughter Sarah Jane Holcombe is buried here in Bridgeton. Also looking for Martha McCully, who I believe was Sarah's aunt and may have been a Duble. Sorry if this is confusing. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Sarah Jane

Thank you Joyce,
Joshua Duble born 5-5-1802 died 11-19-1894 son of Michael married Sarah Phifer born abt. 1802 she died 8-31-1882 on March 6, 1828. Both are buried at New Hopewell.
Their daughter Amy Eldredge Duble was born 8-17-1839 in Pump Branch. I am not sure when she passed away. Amy married Thomas Ramsey Holcombe, born 11-12-1836, on November 25, 1860. I do not know where they lie.
Their daughter, Sarah Jane Holcombe was born on 12-8-1861 in Cederbrook, NJ. She passed away in March of 1953. She is buried with her husband Samuel Stokeley and daughter Lois Sarah here in Bridgeton.
All I have of her Aunt Martha is one portait picture of her and one snapshot from here in Bridgeton that has the date 1919 or 1909 stamped on it. She is rather aged in this picture.
My Amy is not the Amy that is buried at New Hopewell Cemetary with Sarah Phifer(Duble). That Amy was born aprox. 1774 and married a Joshua Eldridge. They have a grandchild Amy Eldredge who married Josiah Ireland. Still not my Amy. I am interested in them though because there has to be a conection there. The name interplays and the burial spots seem too close.
I'm sure you've realized that I'm trying to climb the maternal side of the tree. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sarah Jane

Franklin, I found your posting about Michael Duble Sr. and
Jr. very interesting. How do you know Michael Duble Jr.
moved to Ohio in the 1810's or 1820's? The cemetery list
for Hopewell Cemetery only says Michael Dubel, but then
says Martha Norcross is his daughter and Joshua Duble is
his son. This is confusing because Martha was the aunt of
Joshua's and they had different fathers. One being Michael
Sr. and the other being his son, Michael Jr. At first I assumed
it was the Sr. who was buried there, but when I found out
that David Cramer, husband of Rachel Duble and sister of
Joshua, was the executor of a will for a Michael Duble who
died in 1836 I then switched in my thinking to Michael Jr
being buried there. Any light you can throw on this question
is greatly appreciated.
I can tell you that Michael Duble Sr. is listed on a pre-
Revolutionary N.J. census in 1773-74 in New Hanover,
Burlington Cty.
Hi Franklin!

It's been a couple of years since we've last talked. Thought I'ld see if you have located any new info on Michael Sr. I've exausted
all avenues that I could think of in trying to locate Springfield records. I believe that Michael Duble and Obadiah Eldridge (my ancestor) may have been close friends since they both moved their families to Gloucester Co. and their children, Joshua Eldridge and Amy Duble (my ggggrandparents) married. Joshua and Amy are the only Eldridges buried in the Hopewell Cemetery along with the other Duble family.

Do you know if they were Quakers - since they're buried in a Friends cemetery? Been trying to locate any meeting house records for Hopewell/Winslow area but no success.

Karen Henry in Ca.
