Re: POW/MIA Korean War, DUCHARME

Dear Harold,
I have often tried to find my uncle or any information but gave up about 10 years ago. I recall printing of a list from a POW called the Johnson’s List. I was hopeful but never saw Frank’s name on those pages.

I thought about him again this Memorial day then just googled his name and I was so happy to see your request if anyone knows of him.

He is my mother’s younger brother by one year. My mom was born in 1930 and just turned 82 on May 25.
Frank went missing in May when my mom was pregnant with my older brother. He was born May 24,1951.

My brother Frank passed away May 10th 1972 on Mothers day just 10 days short of his 21st birthday.

I feel sad for her that she never had closure she said she always had dreams of her brother and that he was alive. So she some how always hoped he was alive.

If you have any information regarding his life or death or whereabouts please share any information you have with me and my family.

I think its is great you are trying to help families reunite with the remains of their loved ones. God Bless you!

My phone is 253-691-0661 My name is Chris Pettibon.

Gelos or John Ducharme of Rensselaer County, New York

Need help identifying the following individuals.

Gelos Ducharme, b 30 Nov 1847, d 15 Oct 1876, Rensselaer County New York, buried in Millertown Cemetery, Pittstown, Rensselaer Co New York; husband of Elizabeth Ann Faulkner b 13 Jun 1844, d 7 Apr 1888, buried Millertown Cemetery.

The 1870 census, Pittstown, household 70/75, shows one John Ducharm aged 23y, farm laborer born in Canada. He is residing in household of James and Elizabeth Rowland Tyler, both of whom are also buried in Millertown Cemetery. Also in this residence are Margaret Benedict aged 25y and her child, Minnie Benedict, aged 7y.

By 1880 Pittstown, Rensselaer Co New York, in the household 70/75 of James and ELizabeth Tyler are Margaret A. Ducharm aged 36y widow, Minnie Benedick aged 17y and Lillian Ducharm aged 5y. John Ducharm is missing from this household, possibly deceased? as Margaret is designated as "widow". Also the birth/death dates for Gelos Ducharme appear to support hypothesis that Gelos is and same as John Ducharm born in Canada.

The 1850 Pittstown household 919/990 of James and Eliza Tyler is child, Margarett Farkner, aged 5y (Faulkner/Falkner?).

Theories:
(1) Gelos Ducharme and John Ducharm are the same individual.
(2) Elizabeth Ann Faulkner and Margaret Farkner [Faulkner/Falkner] are the same indiviudal.
(3) Margaret Farkner/Faulkner most probably related in some direct kinship to James Tyler and Elizabeth Rowland
(4) Margaret A. Faulkner married first a Mr. Benedict who was deceased before 1870 census; and is mother of Minnie Benedict
(5) Margaret A. Benedict married second John/Gelos Ducharm; and is the mother of Lillian Ducharm.

I am hoping a Ducharme researcher will be able to help solve these questions. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated and welcomed.
Stephanie, I have been looking at some census records from 1860 in CT where Maria Benney is listed. There are also some Morse's in the same household. I think she is Maria Emerence DuCharme b. NY about 1835 and married to Charles Benway/Benney/Benoit. I think MarieLouise DuCharme Letendre/Letender is her sister. Jan

Thanks Jan for drawing my attention to this. The tree jennamarie_r is talking about is mine I presume.

For some reason which I have not found jennamarie, some of the family adopted the use of Morse for their name.

Naming conventions were not so static back in those days. I'll see if I can move some stuff around my computers and dig through some papers and see if I can add more to this. Pierre Ducharme assisted me on this line. See http://genforum.genealogy.com/ducharme/ and a search for my name Stephanie Benoit.

Did she marry anyone else? Possibly a Benoit? I've been really confused because someone gave me info from the marriage certificate of William R Benoit to Rose Chicoine, which listed his mother as Maria C Morse, born in NY. Another member who had a private tree that I've now been able to access, has Emerence (Marie) Ducharme listed as his mother... Very confusing!

Thank you for your message. Getting Mary's maiden name is a plus for us and clarification of the Butterfly relationship is good as well. Peter Dushame (Ducharme) was my great-grandfather. (You obviously are much younger than I!) One of the problems we have is that the surnames shows up in a variety of forms, for example: Mary Dushone, born 14 May 1863 ub Rutland, daughter of Francis and Mary Dushone. I would be glad to hear from you with any new information you find.

I realize these posts are very old, but I have done a lot of research in the last year on this family, as Mary Ducharme is my 4th great grandmother. Her maiden name is Potvin (Poitevin) She had 4 boys with John Butterfly: James, Charles, William, and George. This is evidenced in many records. (George is My 3rd great grandfather) and he and William were both born in Rutland, Vermont as opposed to James and Charles who were born in Canada.
Evidently she married Francis Ducharme sometime after she had George ( It is a mystery I have been unable to solve as to what happened to John Butterfly) and then she had Thomas and Peter - I'm not sure how Mary fits it.
It is a possibility that John Butterfly died, but I can find no record of it. There is a Francis Butterfly in a neighboring town who is Mary's age and he is married to a woman 10 years his junior - he has his first child with her the same year George is born. I am going to Vermont this summer and hope to find out what happened to John Butterfly and if it is possible he that Francis Butterfly is actually the same person..... wouldn't that be a soap opera?

I believe we may have common ancesters. I think that Elezium Ducharme may be the person you are looking for. He was brother to my grandmother Edith Ducharme. I found an obit for him online. It lists Edward, Joseph, John, Silas, as sons. Daughters only have married names except for Cellinda Ducharme who was listed as unmarried. There are a total of 9 siblings.
His death date is 10/17/1923 born 1859.
If you go to Northern NY Historical Newspapers Online and click Clinton County then all Ducharme in the search box you should be able to find the obit.
If this proves to be your family you should find lots of info on them in that community.
Best of luck.

I was hoping that there is a connection with the Chazy DuCharmes with my Paronto line that you may be able to verify. I have a Eliza DeSharm (alt spellings: Lisa or Lizzie DeCharme or DuCharme) born 1860 or 1861 in VT who married Fred Paronto and moved to WI.

I know that the Paronto family was in Chazy and the local area (North Hero, Ausable). From what you posted, I'd assume there is a linkage to John born 1836 because of the spelling. Based on the ages, I'd guess that she was John's daughter.

Do you have a list of John and Catherine's children?

thanks in advance,
Brian

I was hoping to hear from you.

The information I was really looking for is: Who are your parents?

My paternal grandmother being an ARBOUR, I am very interested in all things ARBOUR. You might know that about 99% of all ARBOURs in North America descend from one immigrant ancestor, Michel ARBOUR, who came from France in 1665. He is responsible for at least 25,000 descendants. My goal is to find all of them!

I have a really huge ARBOUR family tree, but for some reason I cannot locate you within all the various branches. Perhaps if I had your parents' names, I would be able to find you.

Thanks for contacting me!

Shannon :)

Virginia Durcharme was married to Onesime (James) Roberge and lived in Lowell, MA. Both were born in Quebec. They had 11 children, one being Mathilda. I have not found a birth record for her but it is around 1862. She married Chrisologue Emery Poissant in Lowell, MA. The two emigrated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where they raised their family and died. I descend from one of their sons, Louis. I would be interested in the information that you have as well.

Re: Marie Louise Ducharme Morse???

This is an update to my earlier post about Marie L Morse as she is sometimes known. I have found several birth records with her name given as Mary L Moss, Louisa Morse, Mary L Morse and Mary C Morse. She seems to have been born between 1828 and 1831 in New York (or maybe in Vermont). She married Antoine (Anthoney) Letendre in 1850. The 1900 census says she had 28 children, 16 of which were still living at that time. Children are Angenette (Marie Genevievre Sophie), Samuel A, Melvina, Abraham Noah, Joseph, Phebe, and 2 twins. It just seems that for whatever reason she has used the Morse name instead of DuCharme in New York, Ct and Mass.
