Hi Michael,

There is a Duckwall Geneology book that was published in 1972 by Clyde Mitchell Duckwall. I don't currently have the book, but I just saw a photocopy of it last week (my grandmother's maiden name was Duckwall and the author of the book was one of her cousins). I bet someone on here has a copy of it and would be able to help.

I am responding to a post from a few years back but today is the first time I have been on this sight and saw a familiar name. My great-grand father John Wesley Duckwall and Henry Alfred Duckwall were brothers. My paternal grandmother was Edith Duckwall Spencer. She died in January 1918 and my father (Clement Wesly), aunt(Rosalee) and uncle(Robert) were adobted and raised by their maternal grandparents, John Wesley and Laura Ann Duckwall.

I am the youngest in my birth family and would like to find info on John Wesley's siblings, Ann Virginia Isabelle, Louisa Ellen, Cora Amert, Oliver Sherman(deceased by 1910) and Henry Alfred, as well as more on great-great grandparents Jacob & Mary (Emrick) Duckwall, etc.

Would appreciate any help or direction you can send me.
Peggy, Thanks for the clue. I'll see if I can find this version of the name. Your husband's family is probably from one of the other Duckwall brothers who left Ohio in the 1800s and all three settled in or near Bunker Hill in Miami county. The three who went there were Jacob, Daniel and John. I'm descended from Jacob. Thanks again for writing. -Helen

I think I made a typo in the first response about the whole family. Rudolph it looks like had a son, George Frederick Sr, I cannot tell if there was a George Frederick Jr[(?) who married Rachel], because the dates of death are different. Sr died in 1809, and the other one died in 1824. I'm not sure if this is an error, or if it is a typo.
Layla

Ok, I talked with my grandmother, and Don Duckwall had the following cousins: Dorris Duckwall, Donna Duckwall Brainard, Alva Lease Jr, and Wilbur Forest's daughter (her name was either Rida or Vesta, I can't remember what my grandmother said. One of those two married a Wilson, and the other was her daughter). Don's father was M. E. Duckwall. His full name was Medrith Ezekiel Duckwall. She said that nobody ever knew his name, that he went by either M.E. or Med. I hope this helps. Let me know.

Layla Duckwall

DUNKLEWALD to Duckwall?

George Duckwall died in Hamilton County, Indiana in July 1935. In the "Noblesville Daily Ledger," his very long obituary, which included a family history, was headed "Here Almost 200 Years."

The first paragraph reads, in part, as follows: Family names undergo changes as the generations go by, as shown by the name Duckwall, well known in this county, which was originally DUNKLEWALD back in Germany. The first one of the family, George Dunklewald, came to this country in 1750 and settled in Maryland, and of course, with American "giddup and git" Dunklewald was soon reduced to Duckwall. ... The first George had a son Henry who was a member of Capt. John Steed's Company of Foot of the 4th Virginia Regiment in the Revolution and lost his life in that war, his regimental commander being Major Isaac Bell."

Has anyone out there run across the name Dunklewald? I have yet to locate any corrobrating information.

DUCKWALL FAMILY

Thanks Laura, Robert and Mike.
I have the family from George Frederick and Mary down to California in the 1850s and beyond (William Jesse Duckwall and family came here in 1853) What I can't find is information about Jacob Duckwall/walt in Mannheim, Lancaster Co., PA. That's where the family settled when they came from England Germany as part of the Palitinate immigration. They are supposed to have landed in Philadelphia Sep. 24 1737. If anybody has this info, I'd sure like to know. I'll be glad to pass on what I've gathered also.

Historical Information about the Duckwalls and other Families

I have 10 pages from a book that is currently an unkonwn source. I do know they are not from the Clyde Mitchell Duckwall Book. The pages I have are not consecutive, but begin with page 226, 228, 258, 669-670, 795-797, 804, and 961. There are a number of pages regarding the Duckwalls and such other families such as, Creek; Fenner; Lowman; Trimble; Muntz; Ayres; Sanders; Pulliam; Murphy; The Colvins' Hilltop Retreat; The Edingtons; Evans; McClain; Parkinson; Ross; and others. The families mentioned all lived in Highland County, Hillsboro, Ohio and adjacent areas. I have scanned and saved the 10 pages and will send via Fax to anyone who requests them. I can send them as attachments to e-mails or mail them to you. You can call me at 623-214-1853.
