BELIZAIRE/BELISAIRE DUCOTE - MARIA EMELIE MOREAU

Does anyone have any information on this couple from Avoyelles Parish, LA ? I found Children of the couple: Albert, Adras, Anna, James & Charles in 1900, 1910 Census. I found the baptism of Adras Ducote b: Mar 1893, Mansura, showing them as parents with Henry St. Romain & Celina Ducote as Godparents. It also gave birthdates for Belizaire-b: Jan 1863 & Maria-b: 28 Aug 1870. I found info on Maria's parents Olive Lamothe & Joseph P. Moreau in 1880, 1900, & 1920 Census-Biddeford, York, Maine-she was listed w/them in 1880, but do not know when or how she got to Louisiana. Do know that the 1910 Census-Alexandria Rapides, LA showed Maria(listed as Mary)as sister & Belizaire (listed as Bale/Babe)as bro.inlaw and all their children living with Eliza St. Roman, a widow, and her children. Would like to find: Parents & siblings of Belizaire, as well as his & Maria's death dates. I notice there are several Belizaire/Belisaire's but cannot find a connection. I need help, please........ Marilyn
Rebecca,

Valerien is my Great(2)-Grandfather. This what I know of him;

Born 1833. Married to Adelaide Tassiro (variation Tassen). Valerian enlisted on September 26, 1862 as a Private in Company D, 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment. Participated in the Lafourche District Campaign of 1862 at the Battle of Georgia Landing (all so known as Labadieville, Texana), the West Louisiana Campaign of 1863 at the Battle of Lafourche Crossing, and the Red River Campaign of 1864 at the battles of Mansfield (also known as Sabine Cross-Roads and Pleasant Grove), the Battle of Pleasant Hill, and the Battle of Yellow Bayou (all so known as Norwood’s Plantation). Since the Battle of Yellow Bayou was on May 18, 1864 in Avoyelles Parish, I believe it was at least a few months after this battle that Valerien was captured (Valerien Cleo was conceived around July 1864). Valerien was listed as a Prisoner of War, and paroled in Alexandria, Louisiana, June 27, 1865. All of their ten children were born in Mansara, Louisiana.

Leontine born May 11, 1856 and married to Jave Aymond.

Jean Baptiste born August 5, 1858.

Pierre Cesaire born February 20, 1860 and married to Eney Laborde.

Elisa born August 31, 1862 and was married two times. (1) A. Nichelson and (2) An Artigo.

Valerien Cleo born March 28, 1865 and married to Angelina Biullodeau.

Rosaire born June 7, 1874 and married to Poline Broussard.

Marcelin married to Emma Biullodeau

Celvire married to Leontine Firmiro

Aliska married two times.
Re: Colin Ducote

Danielle, I'm still confused as I have St. Paul's baptisms from 1796 through 1905 and there is no mention of Colin. However, there was a baptism for a dtr., Zeline, on 15NOV1812 which would have put her DOB at 1810 - the same year as Colin. I realize that Colin could have been born early 1810 and maybe baptised in Pointe Coupee parish??? I found 12 children of Celestin Augustin and Constance Gagnard at St. Paul's. The DOBs (not baptismal dates) are: 1) Zeline (above), 2) Celestin Jr. FEB1812, 3) Caroline 27AUG1814, 4) Joseph Hedman (Edmond? Herman?) 23JUL1816, 5) Elise 27Feb1818, 6) Jean Pierre Celestin JAN 1820, 7) Emilien 8JAN1823, 8) Joseph 30MAY1825, 9) Zelien 15JAN1827, 10) Oliver (Olivier) 14SEP1829, 11) Eulalie 2SEP1831 and 12) Norbert 11FEB1834.

Nelson Gremillion mentions on one page there were 14 children born to Celestin Augustin and Constance Gagnard and on another page he cites 13 children. I cannot find that they had a dtr., Azelia born c 1824. There is no baptism for her. Which brings us back to Colin Ducote. Where has he been found besides the 1840 census which doesn't list names except for the head of the household?

Colin Ducote

Does anyone have the parents of Colin Ducote who is age 50 on the 1860 Avoyelles census. I've searched all references I have but cannot find a baptism, marriage nor burial for him. Perhaps Colin was a middle name that never showed up on records and as a grown man he decided to go by that name?? In St. Paul's baptisms, under the names of Colin Ducote and Celeste Guillot, I've found these children: Celestine b 5/7/1840, Auguste b 11/3/1844, Marie b 1/4/1848, Ferrier b 9/23/1853.Can any of you Ducote descendants help me with this?

Hello Debra,

My grandmother was Josephine, sister of Adelina. The only Jouglard that I have met was Cleveland: not sure what relation he is to you. He visited my grandmother often and I travelled with him once, when he drove myself and my grandmother up to Hessmer to visit her siblings Odelius and Irene.

Like you I am also researching our family history. I was curious to ask whether you would have any photos of your grandmother that you could share. I do not have any photos of her and could not find any among my grandmother's photo collection. I do remember one photo of all the siblings together standing near a house: it must have been taken in the 1970's, as I believe your grandmother was the first of the siblings to die.

I also have some photos of Aristide and Rosalie Lemoine, and some of varouis others, including photos from around the 1930's of some of the Juneau siblings, including Louis, my grandmother, and Irene. I would be happy to e-mail you copies of these if you like.

Again, I hope this reaches you and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes,
Will Himel
South Riding, Virginia

wimihi@yahoo.com
Looking for specific documents (prefer a census or church records) from canada showing Pierre Ducote/Decoster lived there. Can't locate any actual paperwork besideswhat is written from hearsay. Wondering if he could possibly be a Hainaut-Belgium immigrant (which was Flanders at the time) that came to Louisiana in 1719 and was stationed in Biloxi for a few years before receiving a land grant in Pointe Coupee which would place him in that area before the Acadians fled there. Any help is truly appreciated. Thanks

From the family info that I have, he should be the son of Celestine Augustine Ducote and Constance Gagnard. The reason he may not be listed could be due to the fact that he was born in 1810 but his parents were not married until November of 1810 which means he came before the marriage or very shortly after. He is also on the 1840 census on ancestry.com. Hope this helps.
