Duddy, he had a son name Edward M. Duddy Jr., then my father, Edward M. Duddy III.
I was just wondering if we are connected.

I have info. on Michael Duddy married to Mary McKay. Michael's second wife was Mary O'Donnell. Their children were Michael, Manus, Joe, John and Patrick. I know Manus lived in Blantyre, Scotland involved in coal mining. I believe your Mary McKay, mother of james, may have died after giving birth to James or another child I'm unaware of but it appears to be the same family. I am a descendant from Joe Duddy.

I am Stan Duddy, son of Sheilah Duddy and am responding to your request.
James Foley had 5 Children; William (Bill), Julia Mary (Sheilah), James, Jerimiah, Mary and Charles John, all born in South Africa. I do not know much about James as I only saw him a couple of times while he was in Nazareth House, just before he died.
The Foleys had a dairy in Bon Accord, just north of Pretoria and James left the family home probably 10 or 15 years prior to that.
I do not know whether he served in the S A Police, but have heard that a brother or cousin of his was a policeman and was killed on duty I think in the 1922 civil riots in Johannesburg.

One more thing - On the Shrule.com website, go the genealogy section on the left. when you enter the name, don't use any first names, just Duddy. My Catherine, if it is her, was listed as Cath. The name of the town is listed as Glasvally, but further research indicates that is might be Glassbally. Not sure, but the search goes on. Thanks again for your help. Lynne

Re: Catherine Duddy - County Mayo - Ballinrobe

Dear Maggie & Paul, I was so happy to get your response concerning the Duddy family. I too had narrowed down that my Catherine was most probably from Shrule, since she and ggrandfather Patrick Flynn were married in Ballinrobe RC parish (marriages, vol. 1 page 35. The priests comment was: Very Poor. I have not seen the entry, but obtained the info from the County Mayo Society. Cregduff is the name of the place I came up with too! The site Shrule.com is very informative. There seems to be 3 extended Duddy families living there: Michael married to Catherine Donnellan. The website has put up the catholic baptismal records of the time. They always baptized their children, even if they had no $$. They had a son Michael baptized July 19, 1832. The next family - Thaddy Duddy and Cate Doherty also had a Michael baptized August 19, 1833, and finally there is a John Duddy married to Mary Noone and their son Michael was baptized Sept. 22, 1840. I will probably try and see if the Church of the Latter Day Saints transcribed the info. Maybe your Michael is among the above. All are from Cregduff except Thaddy who listed he was from Galway, Kilconla, Carradown. Maybe we are related. I will continue to search from here, but if you tie into this group please let me know. My gggrandmother Catherine lived till 97. Of her 11 children only one remained in Ireland. Through the help of someone on the Internet, I was able to locate the descendants of the one son and today am corresponding with them. The power of the Internet!!! Thanks again for your help, but please keep in touch if you turn up anything. I will do the same.

Thanks for your reply. My great grandfatherJohn Duddy married Margaret Price in Dumbarton, Scotland on October 15, 1855. They listed their place of birth as Galway. At the time thery were 22 years old having both been born in1833. John.s parents were Thomas and Mary (Lyden) Duddy and Margaret's parents were James and Susan (Cole) Price. I believe they lived there for at least one more year and had thier first daughter there, Mary, on September 5, 1856. You have a great website. Let me know if there are any matches.

My Great grandfather traveled to the US in the 1880's. His name was John Duddy and his wife was Margaret. They brought all but one of their children with them. The oldest Mary Duddy Jennings stayed in Ireland near Galway. The children that came were Bridget Duddy Mcnally of Youngstown, Ohio, Michael Duddy of Scranton, Thomas Duddy of Columbus, Ohio, John Duddy of Pittsburgh, Annie Duddy Kanavy of Scranton and James Duddy of Scranton. The Scranton Duddys lived in an area of Scranton called Minooka. The family was originally from Galway, Mayo area but left for the US from England where they had been living. I believe they made the crossing about 1886. I have done some research but am looking for the possibility that some of my great grandfathers' siblings might have immigrated at the same time. I have no record of any siblings. Any match here?

Hi Lynne and Joy. I have a Nora Duddy Egan married to James Egan related to me from Shrule. Can't tell you who her parents are at this time. I haven't been able to track down any of their 6 children but I know who they are. Since 5 are still alive, I would rather pass the info through e-mail. I do know, 2 are in the New York City area, 1 is in Ohio and possible 2 are still in the Shrule area.
Go to the Egan postings and look for the Egan's of Shrule and that will give you a bit of information.
I believe we have a solid connection on this one, since there weren't many Duddy's in Shrule.
I think, when I track down one of the children, the three of us will have the proof we need.
