My name is charles william duensing. I live in Goldsboro, NC. There were two brothers that came to the US. Carl and william Duensing. One moved to Chicago and one moved to Sullivans Island off the coast of South Carolina. I don't know if these were of the same family or not. They were from Hanover, Germany about the same years you spoke of. If these could possibly be of the same family let me know. charlesduensing@gmail.com

We are related. My grandfather was Raymond Mencke. Grandson of William and Anna (Sr.). I believe on one of these boards someone posted about the basic genealogy book that he put together. I hope to scan it soon and upload to my tree.

My very best,

Jonathan

Hello,

At the time William came to the USA, Anna was already here, having arrived in the US in 1894.

I show their father Wilhelm arrived in 1897 with Anna and William's 2 younger sisters. Their mother died in Germany in 1896-97.

Since I posted in 2003, with the help of various websites and a few "relatives", I have been able to get a lot more information. I was happy to find a tie between my dad and some of his Mencke cousins.

Anna Mencke was my grandfather William Mencke's sister.
William came to America from Hanover, Germany in 1896 as a young man of 19 and settled in Marysville, KS. Anna and her sister followed a few years later. After their mother died, their father, Wilhelm, came to America and lived outside Hinton, OK with / by William and his wife Sophie (Stohs) and their family.

I have other info but need to get out my geneology book for pertinent facts - esp pertaining to the Duensings. If I remember correctly, Anna met Henry in Marysville, KS also. I only remember meeting a couple of the Duensings as a young teen when they were passing thru Kansas and stopped to see my Dad. I was totally struck at the family resemblance to the Mencke's (all my uncles - which would be their cousins).

hi Bart,

I know this is an old thread, and I haven't been here for ages to check the message boards. Kinda gave the familytree research a rest for awhile.

I see that you are interested in Johann and Justine Duensing. They are my family line and I know alot about these people. I grew up in Breman, IL. Johann went by the name Fredrich and Justine sometimes went by the name Christina. They did have 12 children, but Fred and Justine never left Bremen to move KS. They are buried at Bremen, IL. However, one of their sons, Friedirich Wilhelm, lived in Breman for awhile with his wife, Sophia Karstens, and 6 of his children at that time, but later moved to Cedar Vale, Ks. He died in Cedar Vale on June 13, 1933. Hopes this helps, or clears some questions you had.

Hello my name is Fred wiliam Duensing jr.I am a descendent of the Duensings that migrated from Breman ,Illinois. When I was in the Air Force I met some Duensings His name is Charles Duensing his wife's name is Markie. Their sons names are Charles and William. Their family as of 1990 were living in Goldsboro,N.C., Naples Florida, and some where in Georgia. One thing of interest is that Charles has in his posession almost a complete set of bone china that our family, made in germany. The china has the Duensing crest on it and a readable date of mfgr. He also has a beer bottle with the Duensing name on it that was made in Breman,Ill. We checked what we knew of our family tree and he also is a descendent of Johann and Charles who immigrated to America and then too Breman Ill. Last I knew his Phone number was listed. He was at that time interested in tracing our family tree because he looked me up and is in quite knowledgable of a lot of names and dates that I wish I had wrote down. Hope this helps

I am such an idiot. My cousin Jane married Merle Duensing, and it was Merle that passed away back on 5/14/88. Paul was his son's (and, apparently, his grandfather's) name. Finally got in touch with Mark this morning, and he advised that I contact Clara Gallo.

Talked briefly with her and she advised that there is a family book circulating around, and that I should attempt to get my hands on one -- which I will do, since Merle's widow Jane no doubt has a copy.

However, I have not given up hope that one of the computer-facile relatives might not already have this information, possibly with additional information added since the book was published, that they might be willing to share as a gedcom. I really hate this sort of grab-and-dash approach, but the simple fact is that I have little or nothing to contribute in the way of Duensing history.

Discovering Mark a couple years ago was something of a surprise. We were both active in Scouting at the time, and were attending an advanced leadership course known as "Wood Badge" and we ended up on the same team. When I saw his name on the registration list, I wondered if we might not be related (at least by marriage), as I thought "how many Duensings can there be in the world?". Apparently more than I suspected.

At this point, I will just be grateful for what I can get. Meanwhile, I will try to pry the book out of Jane's hands and now that I know Merle's parent's names (thanks to Clara Gallo), and keep looking on the net. Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great holiday!

Mark Perry
8008 N. 154th E.
Hi Mark - My grandfather's brother was named Paul Duensing, and he lived in Claremore, but he died of natural causes a few years ago - not in a car accident. Is it possible your cousin was married to another Duensing? I am sorry, but I don't immediately recognize her name --however, my memory for names is bad and I could easily have met her several times. Mark Duensing I know. His is one of my very favorite cousins in the world. Emily

I know his father came from Germany - still waiting on dad for that info too. I live in Bay City, MI but grew up in Brant, MI - where many of my Duensing relatives live. I grew up less than a mile from Charles & Lena. They past away some years ago. I'll see what I can find out for you. I think it's quite interesting myself. Take care! Carrie

Hi,
No, I don't collect bottles - except for those from the family bottling plant. I did find some of them on e-bay! From the collectors there, I learned that the "hutch" bottles are collectable which made some of my purchases fairly expensive for my purposes. Usually between 12 and 20 dollars if I remember correctly. Are these that "hutch" style? I believe you called it something else that I'm not familiar with. Some of the ones I bought were spotlessly clean. The people had tumbled it in something that totally cleaned it.

It is interesting that bottles are still being found. I've been told that there are many in Cedar Lake - it's not something I go looking for though. I have not found much information about when exactly the company was in business and where.

Please e-mail me at BDuensing@prodigy.net if you like since our conversation on this is not going to be of interest to genealogists.

I found the bottle within the crete township. I work for the forestry preserve of will county as a interpretive specialist and happened on a dump site while hiking one day. I actually have found two bottles, but one is in almost perfect condition, and the other is broken at the base. I can't tell you of course the exact location because this sight is an incredible find. But, I will keep you posted if I find anything else. As for selling the bottle, right now I want to hold on to it, but may change my mind later. Do you collect old bottles?

Hi Joel,
The Duensing's bottled soda pop as far as I've been told. They partnered with Allsworth for a while so some of the bottles say Allsworth Duensing. They had plants in Crete and Chicago Heights.

I have a few of the different bottles and if yours is for sale would possibly be interested in purchasing it. Where did you happen to find it?

Hello, I am actually no relation to the duensing family, but I do live in crete, IL. Recently, I found an old blob top bottle in a garbage dump which is embossed "Duensing Bros. Crete, IL". I was hoping that this might help you find out some background on your family. I was just doing research to find out what business they were in, and stumbled upon your messages. If you happen to know what they sold, I would be very interested!! I hope this helps you out.

Hi Judy,
I am so glad to hear from you. I don't have very much on that line yet, but my records show:

Willhemina Walter b. 29June 1938 in Negenborn, Lissendorg, Hannover to
Johann Ludwig Walter and Maria Dorothea Wilhelmine LARTLING

Willhemina Duensing died in Crete, IL 23 June 1914

Do you live in the Crete area? For some reason the name Fee sounds familiar to me.
I would appreciate your sending any further information you have on the Walter/Duensing family. If your pictures by chance are able to be copied or are on disk I'd love to have a copy. I am in the process of having a new computer built that will copy pictures and things to a CD-Rom so I plan to save as many as I can in that format. I'm not very certain on how that will work yet......but hope it makes filing my documentation a little easier.

Beth
please feel free to e-mail back to me: BDuensing@prodigy.net
