Frederick G. Dufel, 74, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The New York native had lived in McIntosh County for many years before moving to Reidsville in 1987. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer and served as Chief Master of Arms on the USS Constellation. He was a former police officer, serving with the Brunswick Police Department, and was employed with Pilot Life as a Ordinary Agent in Brunswick. he was a Master Mason with Solar Lodge #14F&AM in Bath, Maine. He was preceded in death by his father, Christian Frederick Dufel.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, LuJean Dufel of Reidsville; one son, Frederick Jon Dufel (Martha Dekle) of Brunswick; two daughters, Carol Dufel McCarthy (Isom Cribbs, Sr.) of Darien and Reika Dufel Strickland and Brian Strickland of Reidsville; his mother, Mildred Dufel Hotaling of Pine Plains, NY; one sister, Judith (Ronald) Parliman of Pine Plains, NY; two granddaughters, Krystie Lee McCarthy and Kelly Diane McCarthy of Waynesville; one niece, Heather Parliman Oliver; and one nephew, Brian Parliman.
Memorial funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with military honors. The Rev. Ed Williams and the Rev. Jerald Dorr officiated the service.
