They would be my great-grandparents on my mother's side. They had only one son, Dennis Isaac Duffy, born June 26, 1886 at Lake Nosbonsing(Near North Bay). He died April 26, 1977 in Kirkland Lake. He was a life long prospector but also fought in both WW1 and WW2.
I have 10 children listed for Christopher and Mary. They would be Bill, Jack, Alex, Myria, Tom, Harry, Mary,Bob, Christopher(Jr), Kate. Who are you missing?

It's the house then it's on the corner of Ranch and Atlas... I have it opened into one house now days, but I love all things history and would love to know anything and everything about this house! It's so awesome to find someone who can tell me things.. I used to own the tiny house across the street I was told that at one time it was a bank? Do you know anything about that.. Would you happen to have any old photos of the inside of the Duffy house? Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!!!

If the house is the one I think it is, it is the Duffy house. My grandmother Janet Duffy Reilly and my father, John "Jack" Reilly grew up in it. It was originally the company store for the old coal mine there - Mahoning Coal and Coke. The mine opening was right across from your garage there - across the alley which was along side the house. A little farther up the alley was the opening to the Atlas mine. My great grandfather John Duffy worked in one of the mines there.

Your house was the coal mine company store and the upstairs was a boarding house. My great grandmother Isabella Hay bought it from Mahoning; she then married my great grandfather - John Duffy. We have a copy of the deed of that somewhere - I will look for it. I will trade it for any documents you find of the Duffys. I didn't think there was anything left there.

John Duffy and Isabella "Bella" Hay Duffy had six children - Michael, James, David, William (died in infancy), Elizabeth "Pete" and Janet. Isabella's sister - my great aunt Lizzie Hay - who was blind also lived there her whole life. The house was divided into two parts for a while, and they rented one side out - for a long time to Maggie and Helen Hogan. I remember carrying a coal bucket for Maggie for her coal stove when I was a kid. Then my grandmother (a war widow) and her brother David Duffy (never married) lived on the left side and my Great Aunt Pete (Elizabeth) Duffy Wollet and her husband Ralph lived on the other side. They have all passed away. My father sold the house a while ago after my Aunt Pete died.

On another note: My father is married to Ardie Herron - they lived next door. I believe the Herron family also own the big piece of land behind and to the side of your house, that old huge barn-if it's still there, my Aunt Florence Herron Baker's house is behind your backyard and down the hill across the field was my great Uncle Bill Herron's house.

I see you mention James (one of the brothers) Duffy and his wife Grace (Farley - her family lived directly across the street on Ranch Road) they moved away from the area and they lived somewhere in upstate New York.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this post. I am planning a trip to Carrigart in the next couple of months and would like to photograph some family graves in the area. I have not been there since 1960 and so am unfamiliar with the area. I need to be able to identify the correct cemetery before I go. The graves are:

Michael Duffy and Anne ‘Nancy’ Rogers

Their son Michael Duffy and his wife Bridget (nee Coll) died 30 Sept 1945 and 18 Sept 1945 respectively.

Michael and Bridget’s son Anthony ‘Anton’ Duffy (1904 – 1974) and his wife Sarah (nee McBride) (1904 -1960). All other children, except Annabella ‘Bella’ died abroad.

There were quite a few of my Duffy family from the Carrigart, Gortnabrade, Aghallaty, Tirloughan area as Michael and Anne had 9 children (between 1840 and 1873) and numerous grandchildren thereafter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Frank
James T. Duffy and his father John Duffy - Madras,India?

I have in my possession a photograph of a James T> Duffy dated 1877 - he has with him 2 small girls, his wife(name unknown) and an Ayah(Indian nanny) holding a very young baby,I think in christening robes. On the back is written "From James T. Duffy to his Father John Duffy with united loves. Madras,Dec.7th 1877. He was something to do with my grandfather Allan Grant, who was born in 1877, I even think that he may have been his Father, as Allan Grant was adopted and brought up by his grandfather when his parents(Duffy?) died. Does this ring a bell with anyone, and can anyone help, please?

Re: UK Duffys

I'm Jane Allison from Wishaw but my mum was a Rosemary Duffy, whose family came from Cleland in Lanarkshire. There are 4 previous generations to my mum who lived in Cleland/Omoa Square, beginning with a Daniel Duffie(y) first seen on census at Cleland in 1861, at nearly 60 years of age. According to the census he must have lived in and around Airdrie/Coatbridge as some of his children are noted as being born there. I have him being married in Falkirk in 1826, to a Rosanna Moreland - so I suspect that there will be quite a story and probably quite a few children unknown to me - between 1826 - 1861. Certainly there is no evidence of his wife still being alive after compulsory registration was introduced in 1855. However Daniel had a daughter Mary Ann in approx(per61 census) 1848, so assuming by the same wife, she must have died between 1848 - 1855. Anyone else with info would be gratefully rec'd!

PS - forgot to say, dont know where in ireland he was born - but the 61 census confirms he was born there!

Hi Dan

thanks very much for gettin in touch. I'm really lookingforward to exchanging details. Firtly You should shortly receive an email inviting you to view my tree. I have made it so you can view living relatives as well. You will see from the attached wedding certificate for Edward Mc Clafferty and Annie Duffy that the deetails you have are correect. The officiating priest was Hugh Boyle CC. I had heard that Edward & Mary Moved to Belfast and also to Scotland but could never find out for sure. You will also see on the tree that Bridget Coll was Annie's mother. Interestingl the parents of and Michael Duff (Bridget Coll's mother in Law was Anna Rogers. I haave trace all the Dufffys (Edward, Mary, Bridget, and their passage was paid for by their uncle Dennis Coll (Bridget Coll's husband) . I ahve had little or no success in tracing the son of Micael and Bridget who also went statesid. Their other children Bella and Anto stayed in Ireland. Bella married my father and Anton married Sarah Mc Bride and live all their lives in Downing, Co. Donegal What is your connetion to this family? Enjoy the tree......................I am now rushing to look at yous.

Frank

My grandfather's full name is Michael Thomas Carlos Duffy. We always thought that there was a Spanish connection because of this and also because the family has dark hair and skin which easily tans (i.e., not white with freckles).

My GG Grandad was Michael Duffy from Drumshanbo in Co Roscommon (born 1831, died 1891) and my GG Granny was Annie Wynn from Drumkeeran in Co Leitrim (born 1844). They married 1863 in Roscommon. They had Mary (b1864), John (b1866), Hugh, my G Grandad (b 1868), Lizzie (b1876), Bridget (b1878) and Thomas (b1879). They came across to Scotland sometime between Bridget and Thomas' births and settled in Falkirk. My GGGGrandad was also Michael Duffy and he married Anne Burn (Byrne?)- they were also from Co Roscommon.

My G Grandad Hugh then married Barbara Walker and one of their children was my Grandad Michael Thomas Carlos Duffy.

As another matter of interest, it's thought that one of my G Grandad's sisters emigrated to the US - that would be Bridget Duffy, Lizzie Duffy or Mary Duffy (all of these women would have been born in Co Roscommon or Co Leitrim). Thought in the family was that it was Lizzie (Elizabeth) Duffy who emigrated - she was born in 1876 so likely left Glasgow or Liverpool in the 1890's - believe she landed in New York. Have found an Elizabeth Duffy b 1876 living in New York in the 1901 census (notes that she's been resident for 4 years)but not sure if it's 'my' Lizzie.

I know it's not much of a summary but am interested to see if it rings any bells with anyone out there. I'd love to find some connections.
