Cassy Duffy - San Jose, CA

I'm not related to her, however I have many photographs of her from about 1916-1918 that my grandfather took of her during many outtings including what I believe to be a high school graduation picnic in 1917 (puts her born about 1899 or so). There are many photos of Cassy in and around California and it appears that she visited Elko, Nevada with my grandfather and other friends. I would be more than happy to send the photos to any direct relative - moreover, if anyone has relevant contact information for her family, I'm happy to make direct contact with them. I hate to have so many photos remain in an album in lieu of perhaps being with her family. I suspect my grandfather was "sweet" on her as there are many photographs of them together - his name was Walter Byrnes, from San Jose, CA. Others in these photos are Joe Voss (who I believe is actually Carl Joseph Voss), Mike McCormick (from Michigan), many various students and athletes from San Jose High School, and many more faces without names - just in case this helps jog any memories! My efforts to locate information on her have netted zilch, thus my posting here. Thank you in advance.

Looking for information on Bernard J. Duffy. Looks like he was born about 1882 in Westmeath, and guessing he died in the 1960's. He was definately in New York by 1908. I was told he was the black sheep of the family, as all the others were Doctors. I'm not sure who all the others are supposed to be. He married,in the US, Delia (Bridget)Brannick and they had at least 7 children, the oldest born in 1908. Their children are Frances (Frank), Helen, Mary (May), Bernard, Dorothy (Dottie), Stephen and Raymond. They seperated early on in the marriage, returned occassionally, and stayed long enough for another baby to be on the way. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Duffy from Carrickmacross, Monaghan, (Maghercloone Parish)

If anyone has any Duffy relations from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan, Ireland or the Maghercloone Parish in Co. Monaghan please let me know. I'm learning quite quickly that *location*, in the smallest possible unit you know is a lot more helpful at finding information than names and dates.

(Is it just me or is it the same few first names over and over again? And it's not so easy to distinguish between the many, many, many Duffys from Monaghan. :) )

Anyway, I'm stuck tracking this family in this area around the late 1800's - early 1900's which is frustrating, and I'm looking for a good lead. I've got names and dates, but they might not be of much use to you if you're not looking for Duffys from the above-listed locale. :)

Patrick Duffy

I'm researching my husbands ancestry and am having difficulty finding information on his Grandfather. He was a prominent man in Stockton-on-Tees in the early part of last century. Name was Patrick Duffy, an immigrant from Ireland when he was a young man, died 1930 in a traffic accident (press clipping) and was married to Alice Armstrong, possibly a 2nd wife (?). I do not have information on when he was born but we think it was in Co. Monaghan. We also know that he was a building contractor. Does anyone have any more information? I've searched several sites, but cannot find his birth/death records.

Duffy: Leitrim, IRL > Lanarkshire, SCOT 1821-1891

Hi,

I am trying to trace more about the following family who emigrated from County Leitrim, Ireland to Lanarkshire, Scotland around 1844.

Thomas DUFFY, b. c. 1821 in Ireland, agricultural labourer, married Margaret McGOWAN, b.c. 1821 in Ireland. They emigrated from Leitrim, Ireland to Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland around 1844 and appear on the 1861 census for Avondale.

Children:
- Catherine DUFFY, b.c. 1843 Co. Leitrim, Ireland
- James DUFFY, b. c. 1845 Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Elizabeth DUFFY, b.c. 1850 Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Margaret DUFFY, b. c. 1853, Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Ann DUFFY, b ? Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Mary DUFFY, b. c. 1858 Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Rosa DUFFY, b.c. 1859 Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Catherine DUFFY above married John McCUE in 1867 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was also born in County Leitrim, Ireland. The family moved around 1869 to Canongate, Edinburgh.

The following DUFFY's also from the same small area may be related:-

Patrick DUFFY, an agricultural labourer, b. c. 1831 in Ireland married Catherine McGOWAN in 1853 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was b. c. 1831 in Ireland. Children:-
- Catherine DUFFY, b.c. 1855 Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland
- Jane DUFFY, b.c. 1856, Strathaven, Lanarkshire
A widow, Cathine DUFFY, b.c. 1821 in Ireland, is listed on 1871 census as living with the family, so could be Patrick's mother. The family lived from 1861-1881 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Does anyone recognize this family?

Thanks.

Michelle

Duffy - Shaughnessy - Burke

I am looking for location or any information regarding John Duffy and his sister, Mary Duffy who list their father as Michael Duffy, stonemason. John Duffy also listed his mother as Mary Shaughnessy. John and his sister and perhaps another, sibling, Thomas Duffy, immigrated to Bilston, Staffordshire, England and then Thomas and John eventually immigrated to Mahoning County, Ohio and Mercer Co., Pennsylvania. My greatgrandmother, Mary, married John Tobin in England and died at age 37. I do not believe that Michael Duffy and his wife, Mary, left Ireland. Thomas Duffy was born somewhere between 1842 and 1848 and married Hanora (Nora) Gibbons whose parents were Gibbons and Joice, and John was born around 1844 and married a Burke and Mary was born around 1837-38. There may have been other siblings that I haven't been able to link up yet. ANY clue would be appreciated as I have hit a brick wall.....Thanks. Linda Tobin Brown

Patrick and Ellen (Helen) Gaven Duffy

I am looking for info on my great, great grandparents Patrick and Ellen (or maybe Helen) Gaven Duffy. What I know is that Patrick's father was William Duffy / Duffee and in the year 1855 they were living in Mukwa, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin state census of 1855 lists William and 2 other males and 2 other females living in Mukwa. Patrick was born in Ireland, but the census states that at least 2 of his siblings were born in the states. Ellen Gaven also lived in Mukwa and is listed on the census and was also born in Ireland. Patrick married Ellen on December 20, 1855 in Waupaca County, Wisconsin. They had my great grandmother, 1) Julia F. Duffy on April 3, 1857 while they were still living in the area. Then I know that they had 2 other children born in New York around the year 1870, 2) Mary Margaret and 3) Joseph Patrick. Julia (1) married James Dunn and eventually moved to Yakima, Washington. Mary (2) (or Minnie as she was called) married William Hogan and lived in Washington also. Joseph (3) never married and lived with his sister Julia and her family for many years. I have info that states that there were other children born to Patrick and Ellen Duffy probably between the years 1857 and 1870 and would love to find that info. One piece of info I have says that they had a sister who married a man with the last name of Carey and lived in Missouri and that they had another sister who became a nun. I don't know how accurate that is. If you know of this family I would love to hear from you. Thanks so much!! Anne
