Duhig's and Gaynor's in County Kerry

The Duhigs are from the Ardfert area of Kerry and the Gaynors are mostly buried at Churchill near Fenit and Spa. I was in Ireland in 1997 and was told (by Ita O'Donnell, Blennerhasset) that the last Duhig in the County was now the Governor of Cork Prison. She also said the name was pronounced "Dewey". I just checked the Cork Prison website and a guy named McCarthy is now the Governor of the prison. Brian Duffy, you are a cousin. I am Eric Duffy's sister. I live in Lake Oswego, OR. Eric's our family's geneologist

Margaret Duhigg

My GrGr Grandmother was Margaret DUHIGG c1831 in County Limerick. Margaret was tried in Bruff in 1851 and sent to Tasmania on board the Martin Luther in 1852. She had been in Grangegorman Jail. Her convict record ( from Tasmania) tell us that she was born in County Limerick, had a husband Maurice, that she had not seen in 5years. Her father was John and she had a brother James. Margaret ended up here in New Zealand and on all her childrens birth certificates she has her maiden name as Duffy. One her marriage certificate she has her father as John Duffy and her mother as Mary nee Fitzgibbon, Erly, County Limerick. I have searched for a place called Erly, but have had no luck.
Any help or suggestions where to start looking would be greatly appreciated as we are looking to put a headstone on Margarets grave.
Cheers
Lynette, Masterton, New Zealand

London Duhigs

Hi to Duhigs around the world.

My great grandfather John Francis Duhig was born 1878 in St Marylebone, London. He was baptised at St James Church, Married Rhoda Emily Voyce in 1898 in Kensington.

I'm trying now to find out about his parents, John Duhig and Honora Cahill. John died in 1886 at St Marylebone Infirmary, Kensington (part of the workhouse!)

As both Duhig and Cahill are predominantly Munster names, I believe the family came to England during the famine. Was this the couple or was it their parents?

Any help???

Duhigs of County Kerry

Am researching the Duhig (Duffy) family of Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. Duffy is the English equivalent of Duhig. Duhig surname usually found only in Munster Province. Looking for the parents of Michael Duhig, married Margaret Gaynor (Gainer), and died in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland about 1852 at Christmas time. Sons John, Michael and Maurice along with mother Margaret migrated to Wisconsin between 1851 and 1853. It is believe that children Ellen, Kate and Thomas died in Ireland. Michael was a schoolteacher in Tralee. Researching John Duhig of Milwaukee, Wisc, died a 1902 and John, Ellen and Michael Duhig of Eau Claire, Wisc. late 1800's believed to be relatives. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Looking for information on John(Jack)Duhig 1833-1909 married to Frances Elizabeth Weathersby 1844-1928. John was born in Ireland and immigrated to the US in about 1851.
They had the following children:
Caledonia (Callie)b.1867 married Albert Johnson
Jack Jr. 1869-1930
Arthur 1870-1930
Daisy - married C.M. Lane
Matilida (Mattie) - married Roderick Hickman
Nellie 1877-1957 - married George Harding

John (Jack) Sr. - served in the Confederate Army and mustered in in Arkansas. The family was in Texas by 1870. I believe Jack may have worked on riverboats on the Mississippi. He may have also immigrated with a brother...I believe possibly through Canada and down through MN.

I would like to find information regarding his family in Ireland. Hope someone can make a connection!!

John Francis Duhig had 5 children I believe, Emily c1895, John 1898 (age 2 1901 census) Alfred 1913 and William 1915. There was another son Bob, but not sure of the date.

John, who was known as Jack lived in the Kensington area of London, but I havent followed up his decendants yet. (he was my grandfathers brother!)

Sorry, I have no information about your grandfather Kenneth. I suggest you contact the GRO (government record office), to get hold of a copy of his birth certificate, which will give you information re his parents. I assume you are living in australia so contact details are:

Overseas Section, GRO, Trafalgar Road, Southport, Merseyside, PR8 2HH. England. Tel: 44 870 7788.

Hope this helps

Wendy

Eileen Duhig

I'm looking for and Eileen Duhig that gave birth to a baby boy in Fort Edward, NY in 1941. I am not attempting to have any contact with the birth mother, however I would like information on the family. Eileen did marry and have other children. I would be her granddaughter. I simply am interested in the story of my father's birth and early life. I totally respect the adoption. Please contact me if you have any information.
