Thank you, dulongj.

Geoff Trowbridge http://www.maplenet.net/~trowbridge/genealogy.htm
has offered a suggestion as to possible parents of Mary Alice/Alice Mary Dulong, which seems to fit.

Geoff wrote:
Here's an interesting marriage record I found:
7 April 1872 in Tusket, Yarmouth County, NS:
Simon Dulong, age 33, widow, son of Marthin Dulong and Colhasty LeBlanc
married to Marine Cleremont, age 35, widow, daughter of David Clairmont and Mary Doucet.
Of course, this doesn't exactly match up with your information about Mary's parents, but it's awfully close. It's within the realm of possibility that "Simon" was mistakenly recorded as "Samuel" on Mary's marriage record, and "Marine Cleremont" could certainly be "Marion C." And I know precisely who these folks are: Simon was the son of Olivier Martin Dulain (b. 8 Nov 1799) and Scholastique LeBlanc (b. 14 Dec 1800), while Marine was the daughter of Francois David Clermont (b.16 Nov 1806) and Marie Helene Doucet (b. 20 Jun 1815).
Furthermore, the 1881 census record for the family (in Tusket, Yarmouth Co.) shows a daughter named "Alice", age 6:
Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion
Simon DULAIN M Male French 40 Nova Scotia Fisherman Catholic
Marine DULAIN M Female French 45 Nova Scotia Catholic
Simon DULAIN Male French 15 Nova Scotia Fisherman Catholic
Rose DULAIN Female French 13 Nova Scotia Catholic
Joseph DULAIN Male French 12 Nova Scotia Catholic
Juliana DULAIN Female French 8 Nova Scotia Catholic
Alice DULAIN Female French 6 Nova Scotia Catholic
Josephine DULAIN Female French --- Born: Mar; 0 Nova Scotia Catholic

I explored Geoff's suggestion, and found Simon & Marine/Marion Dulain/Dulong in Melrose, Massachusetts censuses:
1900 - Berwick Street, listed as Dulong
1910 - Waverly Place, listed as D'Long
1920 - Linwood Avenue, listed as Odong
Also in Melrose directories for the years 1886, 1900, 1902, 1905-06, 1922 & 1924. Some of the listings also had Simon Jr. and other Dulongs.

My next step will be to contact Melrose city clerk for a death record of Mary Alice/Alice Mary Dulong Smith to see if her parents are listed.
