Hi Christopher. Thank you for the information. It has been years since I checked this out, and I am only sorry that I didnt look earlier. If there is some whay you can email a copy of the photo, I would be much appreciative. I just lost my own father this past March.

Hi Stephen. It is nice to meet you. I am trying to get a hold of my only aunt, Mary and find out about relatives and names. My father passed this past March, and I never was able to ask him about his father, and mother, who I met only a few times in my life.

I am STEPHEN DUNA, son of MICHAEL DUNA, grandson of ANDREW DUNA. ANDREW was born in eastern Europe, circa 1892. My father was born in N.J. in 1926. His mother gave birth to 2 sets of twins & 1 set of triplets, they all passed early, & were buried in Hellertown, PA. My father's siblings were a brother John & 2 sister's Anna & Helen.

Joseph Duna my grandfather ,could not read but, played music with the violin from a young age born in budapest 1872-1953.
He married mary Duna (my Buba)had 3 children 2 sons & a baby girl who died at 3 mo of influnza. Does this sounds like your family

He was b. 20 Mar 1909 in Ungvar Hungary. Came to New York 22 Nov 1938 and jumped ship. He was a crew member. He m. Helen Gombar bef 1952 in New York City. He d. Apr 1983 in New Jersey.

My wife Ilona is their daughter. Any information on either would be welcome.

My father's cousin's name is Rudy Kallao. They grew up together in NYC and have stayed in touch every since. My dad went in to the army and Rudy moved to Detroit with his mom. I believe he still lives there but not sure of his mom. Hope this helps you some... :)

My father was Albert Kallao from Atlanta. He passed away in 1997. I was not aware of relatives in Manhatten. I have gone into Ellis Island and found a Janos Kaleja that came here in 1907 and he was enroute to Pennsylvania where my father was born. I have been told that is how our name was spelled before they entered the U.S. Please let me know of any info you have found.

I am looking for any information pertaining to Anna Duna, who lived in Nizua Sunava, Spisska Zupa, Czechloslovakia in the early 1900s. Her daughter, Zuzanna Dunaj (AKA Suzanne Jean Dunaye) immigrated in 1920 to settle in Detroit, Michigan. Anna's brother may have been Andrej Jurco. i just found out today my uncle rudy godla passed away in jan of this year he lived in florida and my dad was frank godla
died in 1982 and my uncle steven died in 1994 my aunt lillian died in 1993/94 i dont know her name was lillian godla-clark and my aunt mildred is the only one alive in long island ny
does anyone these godla's please let me know and if anyone knows of any godla' let me know

my grandfather name was steven godla my uncle rudy lives in ocala florida with his wife paula. my uncle steven had two sons one was kenneth since my uncle passed away no one hears from his sons and they adopted a daughter on his wife side that she too passed. my dad is frank they had a sister lillian my grandma was llily we called her baba, my other aunt name is mildred she lives in longisland ny. i nver meet any other godla my dad died in 1982 and i always wonder if there were any more around "the godla". thank you for the info my uncle steve played the violion from what i can remeber. keep in touch.

My dad gave me some more information yesterday. His grandfather was related to Steffi Duna, an actress at the time. His grandfather's cousins name was Steven Godla. Steven had 2 sons, Rudy and Steve. Steve played the bass and his nickname was Pinocchio. They lived On 7th street and C avenue in Manhattan. My dad's godfather was Louis Kallao who played cello with the NY Philarmonic. He had a son named Rudy and a daughter named Fanny. Rudy was my dad's best friend and played piano. He now lives in Detroit.
He also mentioned the last names Makula, Gabor, Drevnak and Fresko. All these families came from or settled in Braddock Pennsylvania. Hope this helps!

thank you ive been hoping someone else out there knew about my last name i dont know if they changed it when my grandparents came here from hungrey or what let me know if you find out what it means. too bad were not related but maybe one day well find out my uncle stevie was always with the violin and cousin too i wish i knew more.

Hi, I talked to my father and he says the Godla name is very familiar and that they lived near him in downtown Manhattan. He doesn't think we are related though but he isn't sure. My greatgrandfather Joseph came to the US in the late 1890's. He played violin with gypsy bands across Europe and also played with the Vienna Orchestra. My dad also said he couldn't read music but had absolute pitch and thats how he got work. My grandfather played violin, viola, bass, piano and cymbalum and played 3rd chair viola in the NY Philarmonic Orchaestra and was on the Ernie Kovacs show in NY. My father Daniel John Duna plays piano and was a member of NY 802 union and played with various gypsy bands in NY and the Catskills. He said that back then ...in the late 40' s through the 50's, gypsies from Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland would get together with the NY musicians and have large parties that lasted for days. I'm not sure of any of this helps but hopefully someone out there might recognize any of this stuff.

My Grandfather's name was Joseph Duna. My father, Casey Duna, told me his father was very musical. He came to America around the 1900's from Hungry. He was a widower with 2 children that he left in Hungary with his late wife's family. He was newly married to a very young girl named Veronica Guzzi. She was pregnant with their first child by the time they landed in Ellis Island. They went on to have many children. Albert,Rudy,Jerry,Richie,Casey, Frankie and Eddie and a sister Helen. Yes, we probably are cousins! There are so many Dunas' around. My father was Casey Duna. He passed away about 4 years ago. The last name of Lacy sounds familiar and I think I have heard my Dad mention the name Lottie. But I can't be sure. I live in Oregon. Where do you live? I heard from another cousin, a Veronica Duna, who said she was a daughter of my Uncle Albert. Do you know of her? I wrote back to her, but she never replied. What are your parents names? I have also talked to a 4th cousin via ancestry.com, by the name of Bill Duna. A very interesting man. He has been involved with a Memorial to the Gypsies' who were killed along with the Jews during the Holecaust. I guess it is in Washington D.C. Do you know of it. My father, Casey Froncious Duna, Sr. was also nicknamed "Geza". He told me he was called that because of his dark complexion. He said it meant "black man" in Hungarian Gypsy language. I remember my father speaking of Kalman Duna. I believe they were cousins. Which would make you and I cousins. Maybe second or third cousins. My grandfather was Geza Duna his nickname in gypsy was "Labado". He was an excellent bassist but could not read music. So he made sure all of his sons studied music. My father- Kalman Duna was considered the finest bassist not only among the gypsy comunity but also among the finest american musicians in the Chicago and Cleveland areas
