This was the preliminary skirmish in the larger conflict that was known as the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas near the Missouri border. Rev. Jasper Dunagin was against secession, but still served in the southern army. He went to Texas after the war. His folks came from Tennessee and before that - NC.
Other spelling variations were used by ancestors in TN NC.
To check the battle story try the index of a good civil war book and read the first part of the story of the Battle of Pea Ridge.
Best wishes, Dick Dunagan in WI
