Hi Beth
I think you are a Y-DNA cousin of mine. The below site was prepared by a Y-DNA cousins who matches me. My proven ancestor was Ambrose Harrison Duncan (b.c. 1745 d. 1828) of old Granville, later Bute Co, NC. In 1760's he was living on Smith's Creek in Bute Co, NC and most of his close neighbors were coming out of Westmoreland Co, Va. Living a few miles away was a Blanchflower Duncan Sr. And I think we can prove he was a proven son of Henry, son of Peter Duncan (b.c. 1633)of Cople Parish (Nomini Creek area),Westmoreland Co, Va. Go to this site and scroll down to section B-1-5 and I think you will see your ancestor....Looks like a brother of Elijah and son of John, JR, son of John Duncan & Elizabeth Holtzclaw.

Indian Valley, Floyd Co, VA 1850 Floyd Co, VA, census, house #906/906: John (64), Rody (64), Elijah (26), Sally (21), Sealy (6), Jacob (6), and Peter

Incidentally, we now have more than one Y-DNA cousin out of John & ELizabeth Holtzclaw Duncan's direct line and more than one Y-DNA ancestor out of my direct line (but always welcome more males to test)

Little speculation: Cal me crazy, but I find it interesting that John & Elizabeth Holtzclaw Duncan have re-occuring males who have names like "Blanch", "Peter" & "Henry" in the down line. In all available Duncan records, you will find there's not many males named "Blanch"

Likewise, the likely candidate for my ancestor's parents are a John & Mary Duncan (Mary was listed as widow living with my ancestor in 1768 and a John duncan dropped of previous tax list.My ancestor's next door neighbor (less than 1 mile away) was a Peter Duncan. Now,there was a John Duncan & wife Mary who sold out in Westmoreland to William & John Rochester (cousins) in 1747/8. This John's father was Peter Duncan, son of John, son of Peter the Elder (provable from records/Wills/deeds). I also find it interesting that John Rochester died in the 1750's and his widow remarried a Thomas Critcher. IN 1766, Critcher and his new family purchased land from John Rust who had married into the George Cox/Elinor Lamkin family back in Westmoreland. John Rust travel to Bute Co,NC with this Cox/Lamkin family after George Cox died and they we living on Smith's Creek in Bute CO, NC beside my ancestor. From old deeds/maps, back in Westmoreland, this Cox family were close neighbors of the Peter Duncan the elder family there.
