BOARDMAN, Ohio – Frank George Dundee, 86,passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2011.

Frank will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.

He was born April 10, 1924, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) the son of Dominic and Mary (Ford) Dundee.

Frank grew up in the Briar Hill section of Youngstown on top of his grandfather’s store which is still standing and serves as a focal point for the yearly festival.
Some of his happiest memories were of his days growing up working as a caddie at Henry Stambaugh Golf Course, which he always referred to as “The Muny.”
At the Muny, he became an avid and highly skilled golfer along with his brother, Nick and his cousins, “Little” Nick and Hutch.

He lived during Youngstown’s heyday and was a great custodian of stories about the wide open days of street cars, rumble seats, dance halls, Jays’ Hot Dogs, The Jungle Inn, Victory Field, great musicians at the Idora Ballroom, speakeasies, bookie joints and gangsters.
He told lively tales and didn’t need much prompting to do so.
He was a renowned poker player and played many a poker game at the old Arco Club.
Frank loved to play the harmonica and once had a tryout with Johnny Puleo and the Harmonicats.
He was a Yankees’ fan growing up, with Joe DiMaggio being his hero. He would argue with anyone who didn’t think Joe Louis was the greatest heavyweight champion ever.

Frank worked for General Fireproofing for 42 years and enjoyed his retirement for the last 24 years. He was proud of the fact that even though he did not graduate from high school, he became a respected machine operator at GF and put his two sons through college.
He especially loved his grandsons, Frank, Dominic and Tony, and came to tolerate Tank the bulldog.
He enjoyed talking to his neighbors in Brownlee Woods and sitting on the porch on sunny days watching the neighborhood activity.

His wife of over 58 years, the former Celina Bello, whom he married Aug. 8, 1949, died Feb. 28, 2008. He met his wife at General Fireproofing while the two of them built planes for the war effort.

He leaves behind to hold on to his memories, his two sons, Frank (Patricia) Dundee and Dominic (Jean) Dundee, both of Boardman; three grandsons; and two sisters Rose (Andy) Russ of Columbus, Ohio and Katherine Vaccaro of Canfield, Ohio.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Dundee; and a sister, Antoinette Hudziak.

Friends may call on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, and on Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2011, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman,
Burial will take place at Calvary cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.
