He was born June 4, 1925, in Latrobe, a son of the late Paul C. and Edna M. (Furry) Dundore. Bill graduated from Latrobe High School in 1943 and upon graduation, entered the Navy to participate in the World War II effort. He served three years aboard the USS Fullam, a destroyer, as a radioman. He saw combat duty in four different island group invasions. He would carry his radio experience over into civilian life as an amateur radio operator (W3KLJ). In 1946, he returned to Latrobe and was hired initially as an entry level laborer for the Latrobe Steel Co. Over the next 38 years, he became educated in nondestructive methods of testing of metals, and was a pioneer in developing ultrasonic and "EDDY Current" testing of metals at Latrobe Steel. He would later be recognized by the American Society for Testing of Metals for his contributions to his field. Another source of pride for Bill was his accomplishments as a baton twirling drum major during his high school years. As a result of his abilities, he was invited as a guest twirler at WPIAL all star and Steelers Football games. He would later go on to teach twirling techniques to aspiring students. After his retirement, he participated in the Latrobe . Thomas B. Anderson Post 515, the National Philatelic Society, and as a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ near Pleasant Unity. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosemary (Massena) Dundore; three children: his daughter, Diana Dundore MD and her husband, Professor Hans Dehmelt, of Seattle, Wash., his son, William C.
