Classification: Query
Surnames: Dunham, Tate, Swan
According to Attleborough Vital records to End of Year 1849, Abiel Dunham first married Ruth Cobb, int. 13 Jun, 1761. She died and Abiel married Mehetable Knap, int. 20 May, 1772. She died 2 Dec., 1809. Capt. Abiel then married Mrs. Sarah Tate, (Miss. int.) 2 July, 1810.
I believe that Sarah Tate Dunham was my GGGG grandmother. Members of my family say that as a widow in her old age she lived with her son Hugh Tate in Landgrove, VT. Hugh's children referred to her as Grandma Dunham. Some relatives believe her maiden name was Sarah Swan and that Hugh's land was passed to him through Sarah's mother and brothers estates. Have found no land records on-line.
Hugh's son George Tate had the family prayer book on which was inscribed:
Thomas Tate, his book.
Melborough, year 1801
December forth, (sic)
December 20th
John Tate, writer, his book of prairs (sic)
February 20, 1800
James and Sarah Dunham
Sarah Tate, her book. Never let your mind be absent in (not finished), and Giv hur grace to look tharin. When the bell doth tole God in Heaven receive hur sole.
The 3 sons of Sarah and Thomas are then listed:
John Tate was born Augus (sic) 25th, 1781
George Tate was born February 9th, 1783
Hugh Tate was born February 24, 1786
John Tate died March 20th, 1813 (age 32)
George Tate died October 30th, 1785 (age 2)
Hugh Tate died June 17th, 1855 (age 69)

I am trying to learn about Sarah and, in turn learn about Thomas Tate. References to Melborough, the dates and names James and Sarah Dunham as noted on the prayer book remain a mystery.
