Johannes Dunkel, my 7th ggf, landed in Philadelphia on 29 July, 1730 on the ship, Thistle of Glasgow. He was an elder in the Falkner Swamp German Reformed Church, in what is now Gilbertsville, Montgomery Co., PA.. This church is still a viable congregation, though the German Reformed Church in Am. evolved into (or merged with) the United Church of Christ. So, my Dunkels were not Amish/PA Dutch. Hwever, the German Reformed Church and the Amish (a splinter group of the Mennonites) were from the same parts of Germany and Switzerland, so there might have been Amish Dunkel immigrants, or German Reformed Dunckels could have joined with the Amish in Am. Montgomery Co. is only about a 45 minute from Lancaster county, and people did keep moving west!
