Actually, Tammi's mother is Betty Lou Dunklin. James (Lafayette) and Betty were married in 1965. Tammi was born in April 1968 and her sister Traci was born August 1965. They are my cousins in as much as their father, James (Lafayette)Dunklin was my mother's (Hudnall Dunklin Bradford) brother. James (Lafayette) Dunklin's children from his first marriage are Gary (Wayne) Dunklin (deceased, June 4, 2009), Carolyn Murray, Linda Gressley, Mary Gaither, and Charles Dunklin.

Hi Betty,
I'm trying to contact Tammi to re-hash her info; it's been awhile since I've worked on the Dunklins. I'm in school this semester and have not been on the computer much.

From the info that I have, I think Tammi fits in with the Dunklins from LaRue, TX. I show her father's line as:

James Hillory (Buddy) Dunklin/Martha Emma Romans>Hillory (Hillie Dan) Dunklin/Lillie Belle Bristow>James Layfette Dunklin/Cora Inez Ward

I'm thinking that this Cora may have been James Layfette's 2nd wife and not Tammi's mother. Hopefully she can clear this up when we talk. I'm thinking she sent me some of this date sometime back and I forgot to document it in the tree.

I'm going to try and locate the messages Tammi and I sent to each other and see just where we stand. I'm hoping I can get her phone number in the next day or so and then I will call her and talk to her about her family info.

As for Timothy Lincoln, Mark Voss calls us fairly often to keep us updated. At present, they are still working on the legal issues with hopes of getting the monument restored. It will be slow going, I'm sure. If you would like to call him and talk to him about this, I can give you his telephone number or an email address. He really loves to talk about it and is working so hard on getting this done. Actually, there are several people, from lay-people to politicians, working on this issue.

Forgive my senility, but I just don't remember right now how you are connected to the Dunklin line. Please clue me in; I think sometimes I'm "losing it."

I'm sorry to say that I don't know any more about Ulmer B. Dunklin beyond his birth year. I have made note of your question about his wife's name, and if I learn anything more, I'll pass it along to you.

I will say that in my study of the early preachers of Alabama, I have run across the name of Rev. Noah Haggard, who as active in the Lowndes County Area in the 1820s and early 1830s. I have no evidence to connect him to the Dunklins, however. Again, if I learn more, I'll pass it along.

Thank you for your response. Did you notice if this Ulmer Dunklin was married to Helen Hazzard or Helen Haggard? I am curious to find out what is in pedigree charts. Ulmer B. Dunklin married Helen A. Hazzard. They are living in Weatherford City, Custer County, Oklahoma in 1920 with their son, William J. Dunklin. My grandmother Maude Elaine Hunter (nee Hazzard) and her two children, Helen Hazzard Hunter and William Oscar Hunter are living with them. Helen and Maude are sisters. Helen and Maude's parents Edgar James Hazzard and Caroline E. Copeland were both deaf mutes.

Ulmer Boardman Dunklin (b. 1884) of Lowndes County, AL

Ulmer Boardman Dunklin was born July 19, 1884, the youngest son of William John “Willie” Dunklin (1841-1911) and Claudia Sophronia Rives (1845-1945) of Collirene, Lowndes County, AL.

His paternal grandparents were Thomas Wathin Dunklin and Martha Georgiana Crumpton of Collirene. His maternal grandparents were Claudius Green Rives and Sarah Sophronia Waldron. Through is mother, Claudia Sophronia Rives Dunklin, Ulmer Boardman Dunklin was a direct descendant of George Walton of Georgia, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

U. B. Dunklin's parents were wed on June 27, 1866 in a ceremony performed by the groom's uncle, Rev. Boardman Hartwell Crumpton. Rev. Crumpton is believed to have been named in honor of the Baptist foreign missionary, Charles Dana Boardman. The Ulmer name was given in honor of U. B. Crumpton's maternal great-grandmother, Mary Ann Ulmer Crumpton. The Crumpton and Ulmer families were early settlers of Pleasant Hill, Dallas County, AL, which is very near Collirene, Lowndes County, AL.

Members of the Dunklin family were faithful members of Bethany Baptist Church at Collirene. As of this writing (2006), Bethany has a small, but active membership. The Dunklin family cemetery at Collirene has been neglected for many years and is in a badly overgrown state. Dunklin family volunteers are wanted to clean and maintain this historic site.

Unfortunately there are many errors in posted online family trees and there is really nothing you can do about it. In this case, after checking the 1900 and 1910 census it would seem that a Helen Hazzard has been rewritten as Helen Haggard....probably simply a handwriting interpretation error, but an error just the same.

Reminder to people regarding online family trees...PLEASE check your FACTS before posting information! And a word of warning to the unsuspecting person who believes those posted family trees...always get your own substantiating documents.

Since posting the original message, I have discovered her parents are:

Father: William Turner Dunklin Sr., b. 01 Jun 1843, d. 13 Dec 1922

Mother: Lillie Ora Eskew, b. 04 Dec 1847, d. 30 Sep 1920

They married 06 Jan 1906

I'm sure about William Dunklin. I am only fairly confident about Lillie's name and data, but not 100%. Any verification you (or anyone) could offer is greatly appreciated.

It all gets a bit confusing after a while
I remember your Mum and she had a brother called Stephen who I believe married Barbara and they had a son Lee? Where do they live now?
Ask your Mum if she remembers Lynn Bates, she is my Mums cousins (Ivy May )Daughter.I am still in contact with them. Also Diane Dobinson Daughter of Doddy & Alby, she is married to my husbands brother Ken, sadly he died a month ago.

Also Mum nad I are off to Kew house soon to dig up some more info so I will let you know what else I find. Where were you and Caroline born and what are your DOB. If you can give me your grandads DOB and your mum and Dads then I can enter these all in my tree too. I was born in Wandsworth 27/8/58 but now live in Camberley Surrey with my family. I have been trying to do some family tree for the dunklins and penfolds but didnt get very far! Ulmer B. Dunklin

I am doing my family history research and decided to take a peek at rootsweb to see what was under the surname "Dunklin". My grandmother, Maude Elaine Hazzard had a younger sister named Helen A. Hazzard who married a man named Ulmer B. Dunklin. I have seen the page in the IGI at familysearch.org that Ulmer Boardman Dunklin married Helen Haggard. Is this Helen who married Ulmer B. Dunklin one and the same person? If so, our surname was not Haggard, but Hazzard. I can prove it. Either this is a really weird coincidence or a big boo-boo. Please get back to me so we can straighten this out for future generations.

Interested in your lineage.... my grand father( Joseph Jefferson Dunklin) said he "could not" go to a funeral...it has always been my thought that he may have run off with a slave brother or family member to Texas. He had a black man who lived with them, had authority to correct my dad and over see the farm and family and was liken to a brother. Do you have any data that would spark a thought?
It would have been a death sentence if caught and would have prevented the return, but the love of brothers would have been worth the run for freedon.
Josephs parents were Joseph Boyd and Harriet Taylor and the only boys in his two marriages were Joseph and John Perry. If there were more they were not given...
It is and has been of great interest to me and always wondered what would keep a son from a Mothers funeral.... Joseph never told the story....
Any help will be noted.. if our lines connect, will share my data...

I have acquired a studio portrait of Marion Fletcher Dunklin (1864-1942) and wife, apparently taken in the 1920s. I research the Terrell family and have no need of this artifact. If any Dunklin researcher wants it, contat me and I will mail it. Marion was apparently the son of James Hillory Dunklin (1819-1910) whow as the son of John Dunklin and Rachel Blackburn.

Elva is a descendant of Joseph Dunklin, b. Coleraine, Ireland, and Jean Warthen, b. Wales. They set sail from London, England before the Rev. War and landed in Charleston, SC. They were married there and then lived in Berkley Co., SC until their deaths at the end of the Rev. War. Their children then moved to the Greenville & Laurens Co. SC area and on from there. Elva's line is through Joseph & Jean's son, James Dunklin, who married Elizabeth Bolling. They moved and lived in Greenville, Butler Co., AL.

Joseph & Jean and at least two of their children, Joseph D. & John, were Rev. War patriots and soldiers.

Yes the DUNCLENT name is of John De Dunclent Lord of the manor in Stone 1351 in Worcestershire his family died out and we belive the local villagers took the name it means " Settelment at the foot of the Clent Hills" I have only found it there dont think there are any left there thought is as they did then was to work there way down to London for work hope this helps Regards Sandra

Did your Dunklin's live in St. Louis, St. Louis Co., MO? I'm trying to obtain information on the second wife of my gr-gr grandfather, Jonathan T. Miller, who married a widow, Mrs. H. W. Dunklin on April 1, 1878, in St. Louis. I don't have a first name or a maiden name for her,nor do I know her first husband's name.
