Re: Eliza and Phillip Dunlevy

Here is some information for the Dunlevy family.

The best place to look for additional information is the Scotlands People site. It has births, deaths and marriages online. Philip and Elizabeth married in 1855, which was the year statutory registration began. All marriage registrations in Scotland show the names of the bride and groom's parents, including the mothers' maiden names, but in 1855, they also included the birthdate and birthplace for the bride and groom as well. Scotlands People is a pay site, but the charges are small and well worth the return. You can search the index free of charge (just to see if you get any hits), but to view the names on the index and the actual registrations you have to pay. The alternative would be a trip to Edinburgh to spend a day in the General Registrar's Office - the same system is on computer.
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Regards,
Charlene

From the LDS Family Search site - International Genealogical Index - information extracted from statutory registrations for marriages and births:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

PHILIP DUNLEVY
Spouse: ELISABETH MCILHANEY
Marriage: 16 OCT 1855, Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Children registered to Philip Dunlevy & Elizabeth McIlhaney:

CHARLES DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 10 SEP 1855 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

MARGARET DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 12 JUL 1857 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

PHILIP DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 05 MAR 1859 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

JOHN DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 23 JAN 1861 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

ELIZABETH DUNLEVEY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 11 JUN 1863 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

JAMES DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 29 JUL 1865 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

PAUL DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 03 JUL 1867 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

MARY DUNLEVY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 30 OCT 1869 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Variations for McIlhaney on the birth records shown above:
McElhenney / McIleney / McIlenny / McIllhenny

Scotlands People:
- death for a Philip Dunlevy, born abt 1859, was registered in Glasgow, Lanarkshire in 1873
- death for a Paul Dunlevy, born abt 1867, was registered in Glasgow, Lanarkshire in 1870

I couldn't find a death for the father, Philip Dunlevy, even using wildcards to allow for various spellings. Elizabeth was shown as a widow on the 1881 census and she was head of the household on the 1871, but you would have to view the actual census page to see if she was recorded as a widow then (Scotlands People have all of the census records). If she was recorded as married on the 1871, then the following entry might be for her husband Philip. It is an entry under "Wills and Testaments" on Scotlands People. Although he was listed as a blacksmith on the 1851 and 1861 census, it isn't much of a jump to boiler maker (ran across the situation just last week). Also, there weren't any other Philip Dunlevy's on the Scottish census (or variations of either name), outside of this family. The cost to view the 5 page document is 5GBP, but it might pay off - just a thought.

Scotlands People:
Dunlevy Philip 18/11/1881 sometime Boiler Maker, Glasgow, thereafter in the employment of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company, d. 02/12/1880 at Chimbote, Peru, intestate Glasgow Sheriff Court Inventories SC36/48/96
I have been researching the names on a memorial in Sheffield, England which remembers the men of the Postal Service who fell in the Great War 1914-19

The result of this research is on my website http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ in the 'Sheffield' section. There are details relating to Francis Dunlevy. I think he was originally from Ireland, because I cannot find him on the 1901 census. He was a postman, He may have married in 1904. I'd like to know more about his family, brothers, sisters etc.

He was a member of the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles)

Can anybody tell me more

Kind regards

Robert.
Thank you again for all of the information that you sent me! I did want to make a correction to my last posting. I said that my grandfather, Roy Dunlevy Armstrong, was the grandson of Nancy's husband Thomas. My grandfather is actually the grandson of John S. Armstrong, the brother of Thomas. John S. Armstrong and his wife, Anne Johnson Searight, another brother, Joseph Armstrong and his sister, Susanna, and all of their family members, are also buried in the West Side & East Side Cemetaries in Fredericksburg, Ohio. John S. Armstrong (b. abt 1803 d. April 1,1880) and their father, Joseph Armstrong (b. abt 1764 d. June 1, 1830) and possibly his wife Susanna (Crow? b. abt 1769 d. October 12, 1852)were probably born in Pennsylvania. I assume that both Nancy Dunlevy and her husband Thomas Armstrong were also born in Pennsylvania. Any further help relating to where in Pennsylvania were they born, and where did they live before coming to Ohio would be appreciated.

This is copied from the book which was written abt. 1900:
Joseph Dunlevy was a farmer and died in Indiana just back of Jeffersonville, and some of his descendants are still living in that locality. Anthony Dunlevy (II.) was a boat builder and owned and operated yards at Wheeling, W. Va., and some of his descendants are still living in that locality. Matilda, born in 1793, married George Hazelbaker, and many of their descendants are living in Washington County, Pa. Mary, born in 1800, married Simon Jackman, and
some of their descendants are living in Washington County, Pa. Nancy married a Mr. Armstrong, and some of their descendants are living in, or near Wooster, Ohio. You can get information of these by addressing Mr. John Armstrong, Wooster, Ohio.

If you send me your email I will send the pages I have.
Christine, I am still interested in knowing what information you might have relating to my Nancy Dunlevy, husband Thomas Armstrong, and son John D. Armstrong. My grandfather Roy Dunlevy Armstrong is Thomas Armstrong's grandson, and I have always been interested in the Dunlevy name. Roy Dunlevy Armstrong, my grandfather, known as R.D. Armstrong, used to make many trips to Pennsylvania to visit relatives, and I am still trying to find out what Armstrongs and Dunlevys he went to visit. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a group of old photos identified as Luella, Essie, Addie, and Ella Dunlevy. Three of the photos were taken by Nash of Peoria, IL. The other photo was taken by C. R. Gibson, corner of Main & Adams Sts, Peoria, IL.

I believe these girls may be the children of Andrew Lawrence Dunlevy (b.Sept 1843 PA - d. Feb 11, 1918 in Trivoli, Peoria Cty, IL)and his wife Mary Connell Dunlevy (b. Apr 1848 Ireland - d. unknown)who were enumerated with their daughters in 1900 Census for Trivoli, Peoria Cty, IL. Andrew is listed as a drayman. His girls are the following: Sarah I. b. Apr 1871, Essie b. June 1880, Adella b. Dec 1882 - d. 1916 Abingdon, Knox Cty, IL, Katie b. Oct 1888, and Luella b. May 1891.

There are five photos in this collection. I would like to connect them to a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in these photos. I believe most of them date from early 1900.

Kathy Wieland in St. Louis, MO
Kathy@familywesearch.com

My Great Grand Uncle Archibald Freeman Coon (b. 1894) married Antoinette Doscher, their children are Douglas Coon and Antoinette (Toni) Coon. Toni married Jerry Dunlevy, children: Gail, Kathy, Mary, Joan, Jerry, Carol Ann , I believe. All this from Bessie Coon's photo album.
Hi Scott

The spelling of surnames were not fixed in most families until well after surnames themselves were heriditary. Because of this you can be linked to a family with a different spelling by as recently as 150 years or so, which is only a few generations. This is one reason why DNA studies of surname groups are a new tool for genealogists.

Regards
Andrew Lancaster
