My research has been on the Irish Dunnigans (several different counties) and I am in touch with one line from Scotland...doesn't mean they don't tie in somewhere. I know two of these lines went through the Vancouver area (including one of mine)..I think it was Mathew Dunnigan. We do have several Michaels in our line, but no John Blakes.

If you any more info, I'll see who might have some infommation on your lines.

Hi Dan! I think I already have you in my family tree. Are you related to Frank Dunnigan out in California? If so, I have corresponded and compared notes with him already and I believe he has mentioned you a number of times. If my notes are correct, you and I are fourth cousins! I'm interested in knowing any information you have about the Dunnigans and Barretts. I'm particularly interested in finding out where in Kerry they were from. I don't know anything about the families before they came to America or into which port they entered America. I'm very happy to compare research with you! Please email me at bkwal@comcast.net. Thanks for your response! Regards, Bridget

Family lore is that James and Bridget Dunnigan from Co. West Meath came over thru New Brunswick, to New Hampshire, to Holyoke Mass. They brought their five children with them: Matthias b: about 1840?, Catherine b: March 1843 or 1848, Bridget b: 14 Jan 1851, John b: June 1853, and Mary Ellen b: 1858. They were to have come in 1856 so Mary Ellen was born in the U.S. James died in Holyoke, Mass. No date known. Bridget Dunnigan brought her family to Renville County, Minnesota and farmed. Daughter Bridget married my ggrandfather William Edmund Dunnigan in 1883. Mary Ellen (Nell) married a Statfield. The rest remained single. Is anyone researching this Dunnigan family? I especially need help with the Holyoke, Mass. angle on back. Thank you for any help. Email me at: minserream@aol.com
I am researching a James Dunnigan/Donican family from Castletown Geoghegan, Co. Westmeath Ireland. There were possibly two James Dunnigan families in that area. My James Dunnigan married Bridget Gannon pre 1837. There children were baptized at St. Michael's RC Church: Matthias 1837, Catherine/1-1840, Catherine/2-1841, Bridget 1843, and John 1846. Two more children were born before they immigrated to Holyoke Mass. There was also another possible James Dunnigan in the area who died in Ireland in 1878.

Hi Cheryl,
My Dunnigan family also came from Meath or Westmeath, supposedly. I found my line for the first time in the 1850 census for Baltimore, Md (where I have lived my entire life). So I know that my ancesters, Edward and Bridget came over before then. I have been searching for them in the 1845-1850 arrivals. However, I have been looking in NJ and NY ports. I never thought of NO. Have you found anything else out about your ancestors?
Thanks, Theresa M. Phillips

1860 Federal Census - DC Michael DUNNIGAN (DONEGAN?)

Well, here is the 1860 Federal Census for DC with a Michael Dunnigan (sic), his wife Ellen (next to a SHEA family), and a young John (and a Michael?)

This is quite possibly my 2g-grandparents. Son John would be about the right age. My John DONEGAN, ggrandfather, shows being born in DC in 1858. And I list his father as a Michael....

Roll 103 Book 1, Page 444
District of Columbia, 5th Ward
Enum. 14 June 1860 by Martin P. King.
Lines 1-4:
Dwelling 300, Family 274
Dunnigan, Michael, 29, M, Laborer, Val. pers. est. = $25, b. It is in a special format (I believe it's Java script) so the text of the email address cannot be copied and pasted - you have to stop and write it down. Rootsweb wisely uses this format to prevent spammers from harvesting the email addresses of Board users. On that page you are also able to view all the messages that particular user has posted.
