I think it was you who said that there was a David Dunsmuir from Rutherglen, but you were unable to locate siblings. My 3 Great Grandmother was Elisabeth Dunsmuir from Glasgow (I'm guessing maybe Rutherglen), born about 1827. I have not been able to locate any info regarding her family. She married Robert Leishman in 1847 in Cumbernauld. Of their children the names I did not trace to the Leishman heritage include Isabella, Mary, Helen, Jean , and Agnes. Strangely, Elisabeth's daughter, Elizabeth, was referred to in one census as Elizabeth White Leishman. I'm wondering if Elisabeth's mother may have been Elizabeth White. I have found no data to support this. I didn't see anything in the conversation that made it sound like there were any leads, but maybe somebody has something

I am trying to locate my grandfathers family. His name was Thomas Dunsmore, His mothers name was Jane and his (2) sisters names were Helen and Gene, They are listed on the census from 1930 in Flint Michigan. They came over from Scotland. I do not know my grandfather Thomas Dunsmore's father as it states on the census that my great grandmother was a widow. My grandfather was born in Scotland in about 1903. I am not sure what happened to him after 1930 as he was married to my grand mother and they had my father Ronald who was 4 yrs old at the time. There is no paper trail except on on document off the internet that says Died in Detroit AFT 1930??
Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely
Michelle Anne

Dunsmore/Densmore in Yonge, Leeds, Ontario

Looking for any information on Joseph or Moores or William Densmore/Dunsmore who show up in Yonge Township in the 1808 - 1811 census. I don't see them earlier, and the next census available to me is 1819 and they are not in it. Moores supposedly had a boat in which he carried dirt away from the building of the Erie canal. He also served in the War of 1812. His wife, Cynthia Avery, was from the Loyalist family of Averys, and the Dunsmores seem to be closely associated with them, but they do not show up on any Loyalist lists I have heard of. Moores died in Jefferson County, New York, and seems to have been born in Vermont according to his daughter's census info.

Any information about any of these guys would be appreciated.

As our Canadian Remembrance Day is just a couple of days away, I was sent this article that quoted a letter written by Albert Dunsmore, a young Canadian soldier to his parents during W.W. 1. The letter went to his mom who lived in St. Paul's, Ontario. He had a brother, Robert, who also was killed in action a few months before Albert, and he is mentioned in the letter as well. Albert was only 17 when he wrote the letter. Albert was killed in action Aug. 8, 1918 in France.

If anyone is interested in this letter, I can forward it to you.

Bonnie

Dunsmore/Dunsmoor
Have traced this family to 1675 to John
Dunsmoor of Kilrea Northern Ireland,
he had four sons who landed in Mass thru
Boston approx 1728 and moved and settled in
Lancaster, Mass area, they are also related
to John Dunsmore of Lunenburg, Mass, who I believe to be Williams Uncle. William was
born 1698 died 1782 and is buried in the pioneer cemetery between his second and third wife. First wife Agnes died in Stowe, Mass. For more information please contact me.

Dunsmores of Kilrea Northern Ireland/Lancaster Mass

John Dunsmore/Dunsmoor family of four boys,
William, Thomas, John and Oliver arrived in
Boston approx 1728 and settled in the Lancaster Mass area. William from whom I am descended is buried in Boyston, Mass dates 1698 - 1782 between 2nd 3rd wife, first wife Agnes died in Stowe about 1729.
This family spread to Georgia Plain, Vermont, Plattsburg NY, Nashua NH and finally
Fall River, Mass and Rhode Island. They started as farmers and ended up as Mill superintendents.I have a ton of information on this family.I can find no relationship between this family and the Windham, NH Dinsmores of whom so much is written.

I do not believe your Thomas is the same as my Thomas
who was born in Northern Ireland, perhaps Kilrea. The
Dunnsmores I have followed I believe not to have come to
Boston until 1728 and then started their journey west
to Lancaster. If I find any thing different I will contact you.
Ken

I'm looking for information on the following people (I've seen the surname spelt Dunsmore, Dunsmuir or Dinsmuir):

William Dunsmore born abt 1808, parents probably Robert Dunsmore and Eizabeth Gray. Married in 1834 to Elisabeth Bell, had Jane, Thomas and Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Dunsmore b abt 1836, married in 1856 to James Blain/Blane, had at least 9 children.

No, I'm not the same Fiona, BUT as far as I know my Dunsmores did start out in Old Monkland, then New Monkland then Ayrshire.
I think Elizabeth Dunsmore was born in New Monkland, and her parents William Dunsmore and Elisabeth Bell were married in New Monkland.
Going back further I think William Dunsmore was born in Old Monkland, but can't prove this. The earliest date I'm sure of is William Dunsmore's 1834 marriage in New Monkland.

Hi Kimberley,
I am in the middle of the Dunsmore/Gove/Adams tree. There are at present 2 lines of Dunsmores in Rutherglen ( my home town) The main one I have is from David S Dunsmore b. 1828.
I have his issue traced but not yet his siblings or parents. I have traces of Jean Dunsmore in Kirkwood street in the 1940's but cannot yet link them. There is also a link to nearby Blantyre ( another Jean ). Robert and William Dunsmore (Bros.) married Elizabet Jackson Gove and Georgina Gove ( Sisters) of the Edinburgh line in the the arly 1900's. I am descended from the Robert/Lizzie link

Anyone recognise these names?
Regards
Alex

They are my maternal Grandparents.
The main family names are David, Robert and John with one Martin.
Does anyone recognise these names?

Regards
Alex
