Good morning Carol,

Thanks for writing and I wonder if both Arsen and Octave
lived in Bouctouche? My father's name was willie and lived
in Bouctouche all of his life. My grand father was Robert
and he lived in Bouctouche and also in the USA. You mentioned Gladys, did she live in Bouctouche?
You mentioned Matilda as being your aunt, well Matilda is
also my 3rd cousin so you and I have to be related but
am not sure how exactly.
I keep in touch with Matilda all the time and she seems to
be doing well and keeping comfortable in California.
Just thought you would like to know that we are Duplessis
but way back an ancestor of ours changed the name from
SIROIS TO DUPLESSIS. So we could have all had a family
name of Sirois had it not been for the change. Anyway,
the change was a good one and Duplessis is fine.
Thanks again for writing and God bless.
Jack

Jerome is/was the son of Christine and his father was George. The older people here called George "Country". I married into the Duplessis family and have done quite a lot of research on the family. By the way Mildred's married name is Frederick. Her husband was Edgar. I've lost touch with her since "KATRINA". Jerome also had a brother named Freddie. The last time I saw Jerome was when he was still married to Berryl Ganier. If you have any questions I'll try to help if I can. I lost a lot of my paper s in the storm but I might remember some things. email is bonnie_duplessis@yahoo.com

I appreciate and thank you for the very interesting history. Unfortunately, I can't locate any direct ancestors for Louis Auguste Duplessis earlier than his birth in 1847 so I have no way to connect Louis Auguste to Cardinal Richelieu nor any royalty. It is just a rumour that he is related and perhaps he is; I just can't prove it since I don't know who his grandparents are nor where his parents came from. Can you?

If I remember correctly you said in your earlier posting that there were rumors Louis Auguste Duplessis was related to the Cardinal Jean Armand du Plessis.

I have been studying the du Plessis de Richelieu family intensively for about ten years.

The history from Guillaume DU PLESSIS, who was born about 1177 in Poitou, Aquitaine, a region in the ancient barony of Angles, and died: about 1201 is well documented.

I have found earlier genealogical information, which is largely unsubstantiated, back to about the 900’s as wellas further history (not genealogical information) of the tribe they belonged to that takes us back to about 130 BC.

I also have the genealogical information up to and passed, Armand Jean, DU PLESSIS de Richelieu, the Cardinal and 1st Duke of Richelieu, after whom the title passed to the de Vignerot family through one of his sisters, Françoise (d. 1615), married in 1603 to René Vignerot, seigneur de Pont-Courlay (d. 1625), of minor nobility in Poitou. Their only son was François, marquis de Pontcourlay (d. 1646), and their only daughter was Marie-Madeleine (d. 1675). The cardinal arranged for his eldest grand-nephew Armand-Jean Vignerot (1639-1715) to change his name and arms to those of Richelieu and to receive the title of duc-pair de Richelieu (which he did in 1657)He became the 2nd Duke.

The 5th Duke, Armand Emmanuel Sophie Septimanie DE VIGNEROT DU PLESSIS, had had no heir, he obtained that the name and arms of Richelieu revert to his nephews Odet and Armand-Henri, sons of his half-sister Simplicie by Antoine-Pierre CHAPELLE DE JUMILHAC. So the name of Richelieu was substituted a second time. The line ended with Armand (1875-1952), grandson of Armand-Henri, last duc de Richelieu.

I have also traced the South African branch of the family from François II DU PLESSIS, seigneur de Richelieu, de Beçay, de Neuville et le Petit-Puy, who was born about 1480 and died: about 1544. He was the grandfather of Jean Armand, the 1st Duke of Richelieu. Some of my findings here are contestable as they were Protestants and records were destroyed.

I have also traced the family in Denmark, also Protestants. My records are from Johan Daniel du Plessis de RICHELIEU, born ca 1640 at Constance, Tyskland. And died on 16th March 1695 at Eker, Denmark. The record covers many of his descendants to the present day.
I have found a webpage http://duplessis.net/JCD%20History.htm written by James C. DuPlessis that claims descent from François III DU PLESSIS, seigneur de Richelieu, de Béçay et du Chillou, Grand prévôt de France, born: 1539 and died 10 July 1590 at Gonesse. He was the father of the first Duke of Richelieu. I cannot see any proof, so this will have to be investigated.
Back in 2005, I put up a post based on information recieved from family, but turned out I was given the wrong name. I am looking for relatives of Eugene Thomas Duplessis of 4th Ward, NO. I have found that he was "married" to Hermine (Ermine) Guerie, yet that is as far as I've gotten. Help?

There is a Lutece in the family but relationship unknown and I have no information regarding any siblings for Louis Auguste. I also was told that Louis Auguste is a direct descendent of Cardinal Richelieu. I hope to hear from you again. If you have Paul's parents names it would help to prove a connection. Thank you for responding. My userid on this board may have changed to ellee. We are the same person.

Hi Dolores, how are you? I talked with your mom a few weeks back. This is Ann Haszlauer Clark. My mom is Dorothy DuPlessis Haszlauer. I have been trying to find info on grandpa's side of the family for awhile now. I think I will have to go to the Oswego Library and see what I can find. I have found a DuPlessis in the area up there. As I live in Sodus, Oswego is only 40 miles away. Please e-mail me at my address: oscarbear_44@yahoo.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Take care. I'm trying to get Aunt Margaret to get on the computer. She said that Lou has a computer. She laughed. Ann

Hi Delores, I was talking with Uncle Gerard in Phoenix. He gave me the following information: Grandpa's father was Prime Duplessis and mother was Sophranie. They came to Oswego NY from Three Rivers, Quebec. Brothers Napoleon, Gabriel, Oliver and Louis and sister Emma who married Joseph Hosselwander (not sure about the spelling. Maybe your mom might know). Gabriel had a son Edward who has a son Edward who lives in Louisiana. Grandma's father was Frank Samenfink who married Frances Doerflinger (she emmigrated from Germany). They had Carl who married Florence (she left him), your dad Louis (m Margaret____), Harold (m Edith _____) children Leonore, Aurelia, Verna. Frank left Frances (he was an alcoholic). The cousins on the Samenfink side were all females to the best of his knowledge and he does not know there married names. Emma died and Joe moved to Florida. That's all I ahve so far. If you are able to find anything let me know. Maybe some of these names your mom may or may not remember. Take care. You can contact me at oscarbear_44@yahoo.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Ann

Brenda:re Martin Duplessis is the son of Francois Amirault Duplessis and Maria Sauler. His father, Francois was a French Naval Captain who came here by way of Quebec, Canada about 1734. Martin was the 2nd oldest son(older brother Francois lived primarily in New Orleans and possibly what became Ascension Parish] Martin was given a Spanish Land Grant in Plaquemines and settled near what is now Pointe-ala-Hache on the East ascending Bank of the Mississippi River. He did not marry but in an Act de Recogniance that I found in Plaquemines Parish Court Records he recognizes being the natural father of 11 children with Marie Jeanne Helene a free women of color. By drawing up this paper he legally stated that these were his children and heirs as at that time children born of such a union were not legally accepted as Natural children and could not inherit. traced this line for my husband whose line is from Casimer Sylvains brother. I lost all of my papers in Hurricane Katrina, which included copies of Successions etc filed in court records in Plaquemines Parish Martin was the 1st Justice of the Peace in that parish and it seems the family made sure that their family and business papers were all recorded. All of the Family Papers are written in French until about the 1920's Hope this is a help!

On the 1880 census, the Robert Duplessis in the Sainville household is our gggrandfather. Robert named ALL of his kids after his sisters and brothers. Rene, Aurelia, Amelia, etc.

Casimir Duplessis

Looking for info (parents, etc) on Casimir Duplessis, born abt 1805 in Plaquemines Parish, LA. Wife's name I believe is "Barbe" or "Barbi" - from 1850 Census which is hard to read. Children - Armand (M) born 1828, Felix(M) born 1833, Jules (M) born 1838, Euphemia (F) born 1840, and Eugenia (F) born 1841. Casimir owned 5 slaves on a rice plantation. Working on my wife's tree, Felix Duplessis is direct descendent on her fathers side.

Bonnie thank you for the info. You have confirmed I am heading in the right direction. Are you still in La.?
I found in another tree the fater of Francois Amirault Duplessis was Jean Baptiste Gatineau Duplessis married to Marie Charlotte Boulanger. Do you know anything about this? I try not to put anything in my tree unless I research it. So this is my next trail to search.
Thanks again Brenda
Re: Louis Auguste Duplessis-b. mar 1847, Nieve, France

Hello Ellie,
I believe Louis Auguste is related to my grandmother, Lutece Julia Duplessis. Her father was Paul Duplessis. I found some information and will have to dig it out if you are still interested. My father said he came from a line of tailors on his mother's side and that his uncle who was a tailor in either Brooklyn or NYC was the only person who was ever nice to him. My older brother may remember more about this. He also said Lutece was a direct descendent of Cardinal Richelieu.
